They won a title? Ok. I am ok with doing that to win a title. And would encourage it. You've convinced me.
-
Just in general or did I miss something in the last 2 hours?
-
Because he would cost less money now.
-
I didn't say I wouldn't trade for him (pending the CBA), but I would not give up noticeably more talent for him than the Cardinals gave up for Arenado when Machado makes quite a bit more money.
-
I would not do Crochet straight up for him with that contract even after the way they used him this year.
-
The Arenado deal was one tolerable big leaguer and 4 minor league pieces, only 1 of whom was in the Cardinals top 10 at the time. A comparable deal for the White Sox would be something like Lopez + one of the international signing guys who had moderate success (Ramos or Rodriguez) and a couple of filler pieces.
-
Well, it would solve our 2b problem. Let me know what the CBA looks like and I'll let you know?

Well, you rejected the turnaround in case numbers starting 2 weeks after the first mask mandate was issued last year, so clearly you argument that ballparks are the main cause of the last peak must be much stronger.
-
Ok, you are right. Clearly opening baseball stadiums was a mistake. The surge in Texas completely proves your point and it is irrefutable and fully consistent with the argument you just made that the large data set of a surge following that opening. Thank you for admitting you you were wrong last spring.

See here’s the funny thing. One rant before this, you said that masks clearly aren’t important and mask mandates don’t help because there are complications that make it impossible to say “mask mandates cut the number of cases here”. There are smaller scale studies that clearly demonstrate it in controlled, comparable populations, but at bigger scale you get those numbers lost in “when did the virus arrive”, “how are people behaving in private settings like holiday gatherings”, and “how many people are vaccinated” that make it harder to statistically isolate the effect of masks. But then here, you say there were no outbreaks, and yet the states that opened early in the spring all had massive outbreaks over the summer - you specifically cited Texas in the Spring for their great work and they had a terrible outbreak. So in one case, you use the fact that there are many things affecting virus transmission to say “outbreaks occur here and that means something” and in the next you say “outbreaks occurred here but that means nothing”. It is an interesting and self serving set of double standards, to be sure.

Yeah, totally unfair. I mean, no one would have any problem with you saying with you saying “the skins on these potatoes are red” but if you go around yelling the former name of the Washington Football Team at people you get judged to be a racist! How unfair!

At this point, it is what it is. Grab some extra beer and let’s see how it goes. -

The bolded is false as written. Not only was it against federal law, but commissioner Vincent issued a memo/rule on the subject in the early 1990s outlining the rule, and the rule was recirculated in another memo by Selig in 1997. What would be accurate is to say that there was no enforcement of that rule by MLB.

Well, the county I was in last fall until I had to move typically had 100-200 cases per day at the peak last year, and as soon as the fall semester started they began seeing 400+ cases a day fairly regularly, along with a couple of deaths per day including at least 1 student. So...maybe you can only take so much from a lack of outbreak reporting in a country where there are so many cases in the low-vaccination areas that any attempt to do contact tracing to figure out where people got exposed is completely overwhelmed.d

Rules don’t always have to make sense when they’re collectively bargained, they are written to be acceptable to both sides. If TA did bump an ump in there, I can’t complain about his being suspended as that’s a well known rule - and Abreu not being suspended doesn’t change that.
-
I think that’s somewhat up to the umpires discretion, in that case the ump initiated the contact to push him back. It looks like Anderson was charging ahead, so if he bumped an ump during that, Anderson initiated it.

Correct.

The 1994 White Sox and Expos walk out of the corn to play the 7 game series we missed.

Since that would be for the division, there would be a playin game for the division and that game would have priority over any wild card games or tiebreakers.
-
Is Engel healthy enough to be on the ALDS roster? Remember that if he has to be replaced, he’s out not just for that series.
