  1. If you go to Minute Maid, do not get in the line for the Shake Shack during the game. Get there early if you want to go to that. You will miss at least half an inning, maybe a full inning.
  2. FWIW, Extra Rest in the postseason is likely unless he starts game 1 of the ALDS. If he starts game 2, his next "turn" would be game 1 of the ALCS, which would be ~8 days later.
  3. This is actually a really well timed thread, FWIW. Looks like the on sale is Monday. https://www.mlb.com/astros/tickets/postseason
  4. Cincinnati featured the game where LaRussa had the rules explained to him afterwards.
  5. The steroids they use are somewhat effective at limiting deaths, >25% of the deaths give or take can be eliminated by the current steroids. The Monoclonal antibodies are quite effective, even more effective than the steroids, but they need to be used early in treatment, which means you need to have a person who is being tested often or who is tested right at the onset of symptoms for those to be useful. If you let the disease progress because you think it might be just a cold, it is probably too late. It is very interesting that these same two, both of whom have spread false information about the disease, were tested rapidly and were able to get the expensive treatment before the infection was able to do very much. Almost as if they minimize it publicly while panicking the second they get exposed or don't feel right. And even then, the older of them wound up hospitalized.
  6. Apparently his last homer was on August 29 against the Cubs.
  7. 4th time is the charm (or 5th? How many setbacks did he have before coming back the first time?)
  8. I literally said exactly this about this homestand, and they're coming away 3-3 with two stupid losses, which may well have effectively ended their realistic chances at the #2 seed. Texas isn't exactly good, but they're 7-6 in September coming into tonight, and they have a .451 winning %age at home compared to .297% on the road. At the very least, expect them to be as annoying as these Angels. There aren't a lot of blocks left to get things going the right direction. This one was my preferred one because it was at home.
  9. This will drop the White Sox to 40-28 since the start of the Houston series, 29-28 in the second half, and 6-7 in September. They first reached 20 games above .500 on July 18 and have played .500 ball the rest of the way.
  10. By RR's admission I believe he said he knew they were in the playoffs so he was trying new matchups (Like bullpen Rodon famously).
  11. I am ok with him getting 2 starts before the playoffs. I'd really like to see him throw 90+ pitches in each.
  12. Fry, Ruiz, Wright, and Burr are all currently in the White Sox's active bullpen.
  13. All right, I get the extra rest, but he's only throwing about 80 pitches per start now on average and he hasn't thrown 100 in a game basically since the All Star break. Is he going to only throw 75 pitches in a playoff start?
  14. Well, first of all, pediatric beds have spent the last month variably filling up from one spot to another in several states and I struggle to see obesity as a driving force in that. But, I'm actually willing to play your game a little bit. What you're doing is by definition a "red herring" fallacy - we have one problem, COVID, and you are sitting there saying "Look at this other problem, because we have this other problem we shouldn't try to solve the first. But let's say I didn't use the second as an excuse. What are you advocating to improve/assist with the obesity epidemic? Are you in favor of mandatory government diet restrictions? Sin taxes on various products? Changing government subsidies on various products? Banning certain products? Changing the way health insurance coverage bills for certain individuals? There are several policies along those lines that I believe would be good ideas, but since you're insisting this is a subject you feel is strongly important, I would say you should go first. What policy are you advocating?
  15. Actually there is likelihood of significant harm from the side effects of Hyroxychloroquine. It is tough on the circulatory system, so pumping people full of it while their hearts were also being damaged by a virus was probably not a particularly safe thing. It also impacts the immune system - that's why people with overactive immune systems (Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis) take it. You can wonder whether taking something that impacts the immune system while fighting a virus is a good idea.
  16. No it does not. A doctor may give it to you, but the only evidence that is has any effect is clearly fraudulent. It is also really, really, really interesting how you have such a problem with Big Pharma making money on anything, but you have no problem with people pushing Ivermectin to make money on it.
  17. See, I have very little problem with giving guys extra rest. Use the IL, give guys extra days off, that makes sense to me. What is pissing me off is the stupid losses. We have had 2 1-run losses in the last 4 games, places where a bad move is magnified, and the strategy made no sense in either of them. Saturday, they burn all their good relievers so clearly they’re trying to win. Vaughn is declared unavailable, but for some unfathomable reason he isn’t put on the IL. In the 8th inning, LaRussa burns his entire bench except Vaughn and Mendick, one guy without getting an at bat. 10th inning comes around and oops, we have 2 lefties back to back with the tying runner on third, all Alex Cora has to do it have a lefty on the mound and the runner is stranded. The Sox stupidly put themselves in a box and sat there waiting for Cora to tape it shut. Last night, Billy Hamilton on 2b as the tying run, with nobody out, the bottom of the order coming up, and a strikeout pitcher on the mound so low odds of strong contact, and Hamilton never runs to set up a sac fly/groundout or run scoring wild pitch? I still don’t get this at all. If Hamilton gets thrown out, I’m pissed at Hamilton because he has one job, why on Earth is he told not to do it? Just stop with the stupid losses, they have been the hallmark of the whole season and they are so unnecessary. There’s a benefit to resting guys, I’m ok with losing a game because Leury makes an error at short. There’s no benefit to having Vaughn sit on the bench hurt, and I’m not ok with losing a game because we left him sitting there. There’s no benefit to Hamilton not running.
  18. Goodwin has more of a place than Hamilton if he can’t steal bases.
  19. I can offer a 100% guarantee that Nick Madrigal would not have helped in the situation last night.
  20. Apparently he says he didn’t want them standing there on the play. It started raining a moment later.
  21. I’ll say this, if Hamilton can’t steal a base even if people know it’s coming, he can be eliminated from that list of options.
  22. Honestly, almost never. I see Abreu come up with a runner on first and think that he’s about to do damage, even when I’m wrong. I think of the chances of the guy getting thrown out, and then I think of how they won’t give Abreu anything hittable if first base is open.
  23. Goodwin is actually hitting .316 with a .435 OBP so far this month, prior to this game I assume. He only hit .188 in August, but hit 3 home runs and had a .644 OPS, which isn't terrible for his worst month of the year.
