  1. He's not going to get to 70 this season (maybe if there's an extended playoff run). It's hard to see him being in any shape to get far beyond what Rodon will do this year (130+ plus playoffs). And that's if they don't decide to just keep him in the bullpen because certain people want him there - which I think is way more likely than we want to consider.
  2. I would like to specifically thank the White Sox (and I guess Rob Manfred?) for finishing this game at 3:58 local time so that I could walk down the hall and be on time for my 4:00 meeting.
  3. I mean, if Eloy weren't bad right now I'd have wanted him hitting ahead of Moncada to break up the switch hitters and to put a power bat behind Grandal, but yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with these guys right now.
  4. Well first of all I will bet folding money that Goodwin starts against any RHP, and Cesar isn’t exactly an upgrade on Leury right now. But more than that, how easy is it for these guys to step into roles they haven’t played this year. In a lineup they haven’t been in? Can you even tell me who will be hitting second? And even without that - how many of them are mired in a plumps right now? Eloy hasn’t homered in almost a month. Abreu has one home run this month. So how about we just win a few extra games down the stretch and break some of these slumps?
  5. I would sure feel a helluva lot better going into the series with the Astros if they did.
  6. Adding in Rodon on the current QO rules would push the White Sox’s likely payroll to $170 million+. I think even the optimists struggle to see them spending far beyond that.
  7. 47-23 in the second half, 24-8 in September and October for those Mets. How is it that every time someone gives an example of an inexperienced team winning a couple series they finished with a strong September? This hasn’t been wrong once at this page yet.
  8. Tomorrow should be good. Maybe some spotty stuff left over. there’s a slow moving cold front hanging out over Lake Erie today but it should clear into NY and Pennsylvania by Thursday midday.
  9. With how the last month has gone I’m up to Maybe. It would sure remove a helluva lot of CBA and contract related uncertainty for his side, and would what, double his career earnings?
  10. Yes, but that Cardinals team that famously flipped the switch was an experienced, playoff tested team. They had lost the 2004 World Series and in 2005 they won 100 games (1 more than the eventual champs) and pushed the Astros in the NLCS, famously murdering Brad Lidge in the process. A veteran team where people are all getting heathy being able to flip the switch - I could understand that. A fairly young team with 3 playoff games in their entire careers for many of them, where they are struggling despite guys having already returned from the IL weeks ago, where they appear unmotivated, where their manager keeps giving games away for baffling reasons and never seemed to connect with his players, and where their opponent (with home field advantage) is actually the veteran team with tons of championship experience? Well, I will believe that team can flip a switch on when I see it.
  11. The sports authority owns the lots but they are contractually obligated to the team for them. You would apparently need agreement from both sides to develop that one until the lease runs out. Probably why it won’t happen, the Reinsdorfs won’t give up the parking revenue and the Authority shouldn’t give up money they could get by developing that land in 2030. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2021/4/5/22367754/white-sox-parking-lots-south-side-redevelopment-isfa-one-central-editorial
  12. Weather forecast shows a 90% chance of rain until after midnight. I’d guess they calL it early.
  13. LaLossa? LossRussa? I’m trying to come up with a better name for these than stupid losses, anyone got a better pun?
  14. Honestly, I think I’d be right where I’m at right now - “so the rest of the division was weaker than I thought, no one else even won 90 games so the Twins and Cleveland Baseball Club must have struggled, but the Sox weren’t all that great either. I’ll enjoy it but I’m going to be a bunch of baseball nerves when the playoffs approach because I’m never ready to be eliminated.”
  15. I believe back in November “LaRussa Kopech in the bullpen and he will not be overruled” was literally my example of the kind of thing that could go wrong when a manager is forced on a now-powerless GM.
  16. Or LaRussa said you can’t take a guy out of his bullpen.
  17. Jace Fry pitching 2 innings with Bummer and Hendriks slated to go after the tie is broken is only mentally weak by one person.
  18. They have 85 wins right now and 11 games to play. They darn well better get to 90. Not because of Cleveland or anything like that, but because they'd have to finish 4-7, with a 12-16 record in Sept/Oct in order to miss that number.
