QUOTE(MichiganBorn @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) Should have but this "last place team" put 19 runs on the first place team in the East so I think I can live with the losses. I don't like them but I can live with it. Plus we only loss half a game on the Sox (He wasn't insulting the Tigers, he's insulting the people who were pissed on this page that the White Sox, without Thome and Konerko, only managed to take 2/3 from the Royals)

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 06:48 AM) Lieberman is running a sort of Anti-Walmart theme in his campaign to be fair. Thus once again proving how idiotic our campaign finance system is. Running an anti-Walmart campaign, yet getting donations from Walmart and owning Walmart stock? Yeah, that makes perfect sense to me. I'm sure Walmart actually wants the greater restrictions on their company, and that's why they're giving money to him.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) There is always good reason for rage when talking about modern SNL. That show hasn't been funny since the mid 80's and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Terrible show. That Prospector thing was stupid. I think that SNL has currently a habit of being dragged along wherever society has taken it. The more pre-packaged, dumbed down, and sold off for marketing society has become, the more SNL has become dumbed down and loaded with pop culture jokes.

What do you think of this year's Marlins?
Balta1701 replied to MarlinFan84's topic in The Diamond Club
No one's said it yet, but Joe Girardi = NL manager of the year. Without any doubt. -
Official Game Thread 8/4 - Sox vs Jays 6:05
Balta1701 replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Hopefully the extra day of rest has helped Garland feel better. He's going to have to be on tonight. And hopefully we can welcome back 25 and 14 into a reconstituted murderer's row. And I hope to God Mack doesn't start in CF, but against a tough righty, I'm betting he will, which of course guarantees that Garland won't be able to pitch a shutout. -
QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 08:20 AM) So one story can complete wipe out media bias? I know people here prefer to ignore media bias, but it is still prevalent. Not as much, but it's definitely there. This is just the beginning of th eventual switch to this city being owned by the Sox. Not that it bothers me being the 2nd team, but this is just the reality of the situation. When this shows up in the Tribune, it's more than the beginning.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 08:12 AM) Even last year I would have made a couple of arguements against that... First of all almost all of those teams had Hall of Fame players in huge rolls, which we don't/didn't. Also their #1 and usually #2 pitchers were very dominant, where our trademark was just very good pitching 1-5. I think in this day and age we have the potential to be in the playoffs on an annual basis with this team, but dynasty is a whole nother story. Jim Thome? And it's still early, but a young Mark Buehrle (if he stays healthy and makes a run at 300)?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 10:14 AM) First, I'd like to say that the season isn't over. I didn't say that. As for the bold part, we're in a tight race here with 3 or 4 teams for 1 playoff spot. We're going to have to sweep some bad teams if we plan on playing baseball in October. So, we should start "expecting" some sweeps, especially against these AAA teams. Yeah, and the team with the best record in baseball ought to expect to be able to sweep AAA teams also! If not, then they're just pretenders! Oh, wait.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Israel is no slouch when it comes to technology. They've been rumored to have manufactured a nuclear weapon for quite some time. Which, interestingly enough, they might not have gotten during the 60's without the active support of Britain and France (france helped build the Dimona reactor, the rest is covered in that page). QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Given that Israel has fallen under attack from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, etc. over the years, I think that our support is more than justified. How many nations have instigated attacks against those Arab states, or Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, Hamas, or the Islamic Jihad for that matter? So, given that Israel has launched surprise attacks on Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt in the past, would your argument then grant that those countries are allowed to ship weapons to organizations fighting Israel? (I sure don't believe this, but I'm just trying to show you the hole in your argument here).

And all I was saying was that a reasonable chunk of Nader's cash came from Republican donors. Here's numbers to back it up. July 04, several tens of thousands of dollars going to Nader by people who also gave to Bush. Why is this something i'm getting hammered on? I can't even figure out what you people are trying to argue.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Buehrle would say otherwise. Not this year.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) Maybe I should have prefaced it and said if he "consistently threw 95 mph". BMac mostly sits at 91, correct? I'm pretty sure that the one clocking at 91 is his 2-seamer that he was working on last offseason. When he goes out with the straight 4-seamer, at least most of the times I've seen it, he pushes 93-94.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Utley. 35 games. A few more games and i'll actually get interested.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) I find it amusing that a 17-year-old is calling somebody else "son." Your argument doesn't account for the fact that the U.S. gives foreign aid to pretty much everybody. I'm not sure if they're still doing it, but that list has historically included the Palestinians. So there's no difference between say, sending in food and medical supplies after a tsunami and selling Israel a bunch of F-16's that they pay for with money we gave them, or rushing up orders of guided munitions to ship to Israel as soon as this campaign started?

QUOTE(minors @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) Nader had almost nothing to do with these loses to Bush. In 2000 Gore screwed himself by not using what works Bill Clinton and by not paying attention to your home state. And the fact that his liberal supporters in FLA couldn't even read or punch a ballot right. If any of these things is done right Gore wins in 2000 if you can't win your homestate then you shouldn't be president. 2004 was a clear victory for Bush and unless Nadar took away 100K votes from Kerry in Ohio or caused Kerry to lose states that went Gore just 4 years earlier. 2004 was much closer to a stomping by Bush than a Kerry win. Kerry had to hang on for victories in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oregon, PA and Michigan and couldn't hold onto New Mexico, Iowa. While Bush only lost NH and had comfortable wins and improved his standing in most of the other states he won in 2000. Did you even pay attention to the subject I was talking about? I was saying that this was absolutely no different than the Republicans dumping money into Nader's campaign in 04, which they did, nor was it any different from waht the Democrats would have done had someone made a run against Bush from the right.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) Just sort of thinking out loud, but is there any way if the Sox made a package around Fields and Pods, San Diego would bite on trading Peavy? Peavy will be 26 next season, and is having a down year. Obviously has ace stuff, but his price might be down a little after this year, and with no real future at 3B for SD, and Roberts a FA after the year(90% sure on that) could a deal centered around the two of them work? I don't know about Fields and Pods, but if one were to consider including a starting pitcher in that deal, and we would have at least 1 to deal, if not 2, and some of the money to pay for that pitcher's obscene contract, something might be do-able.

Have a professor here who's been featured on Daily Show clips 3 times now if I'm counting right. He tells us the camera adds 10 nerdiness points.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) The key is, who would be more valuable to the current and future white sox, BMac or Crawford? IMO, Crawford would be. While BMac is a nice arm, he's not a #1 or a #2 [if BMac threw 95 mph then he could be]. He tops out at 94.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) they probably think the same thing about you. John Kerry supporter. After 6 years of this President, I think a lot of them would actually agree that they are fools. There's a reason why Nader put in so much worse of a showing in 04.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2538688 I'm wondering why we didn't block him... Because Baltimore probably would have just let him go to us. And do the Red Sox have a worse record htan us right now? They might be ahead of us on the list.

That didn't take long. Hopefully Baltimore got something useful.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) I wonder how that happened? Supposedly his family suffers from some sort of debilitating skin disease which may also have something to do with it.
