Just curious...now that we have a catcher who has rated extremely highly on framing in previous years, has anyone noticed any results from this?

Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker

I hated this trade, in this thread, consistently, but even I'd say there's not a single conclusion one can draw from this season. If you wanted him this year, bring him back next year and give him one more shot. Play the hot hand this year because why not, what's the loss? -

Also worth considering the teams that might move down. The Warriors seem likely to trade their pick. Would the Warriors want Lavine? He's a good player, but that's one team where I'd say he's a terrible fit as they already have better versions of him. White I could see as a maybe, but same sort of problem in that he'd just be a backcourt rotation player. The guys the Warriors could use are the front court guys Markkanen and Carter, but the Boylen years have taken a toll on both of them with lots of injuries and not particularly impressive performance. Markkanen is also a restricted free agent this offseason, so reduced value there too. The TWolves have had some whispers about moving down, but seems less likely. Are they a fit for Lavine after trading him away? Would you put him in a backcourt alongside Russell? White might actually be a better fit there, but not sure if White + the number 4 pick is enough to move up to the #1, and not sure if that's a good move for the Bulls anyway. -
If people are talking $30 million+ for McCann, with one person in this thread saying $50, any chance he could receive a qualifying offer?

Guys, this is the middle ground, right now. If one side is "Take strong action to defeat the virus", and the other is "the virus is a hoax and we should do nothing", taking some actions but letting a thousand people die and a hundred thousand get infected each day is a nice, happy, middle ground. You should be fully satisfied if it's a middle ground you're looking for.

I'd like to illustrate how bad of an idea this is this year. So another team has a player, you can't see that guy but that team sees him every day, and suddenly they're willing to move said player in exchange for one of your prospects that they haven't seen this year? Hmmm, this might seem suspicious, from either side. "Mr. Hahn, sure you could have those two pitchers, but you could trade it all for what's in this mystery box" "The Box! The Box! I'll even throw in another Tatis, I want the box!"

How much of that is the case because of certain politicians who encouraged such behavior right from the start? One of the items in the pandemic playbook handed down from the previous administration is how to deal with the public. A combination of honesty, putting the facts out there, making clear why we need to take draconian measures, and what will be done aftewards, all presented with a clear message over and over from everyone...works. People will go along with things that are hard when they genuinely understand that there's a much worse downside because the government itself treated it seriously. If you need evidence of that...most of Europe. Most of the planet in fact.

One very specific interpretation of freedom for very specific people.

But we don't know that the incubation period hasn't ended. If it was last Wednesday he was exposed to a person, the person tested positive on Saturday, it's been a week since his exposure.
-
I'd imagine they're at "2 negative tests since exposure".

I know Leury probably won't be here after this year, but if your bench next year had Leury, Engel, and Mendick on it, then you're in pretty decent shape on depth to give guys offdays when needed.

Normally, one way to balance this out is "wins and losses". If your team keeps insisting that they're competitive and they can't even come close to .500 and every year you're calling a disappointment...That's telling you something about the balance of things. We don't know why some guys are making calls behind the scenes, maybe Detweiler accidentally ran over Anderson's dog or something like that. Unfortunately, this is a hard season to use W-L for any sort of evaluation, because everything is such a mess.

There might be a decent chance he could go to AA, but really who knows? Missing this year throws everyone's schedule out of whack. Maybe he's looked good enough in Schaumburg they'd start him there and move him to AAA rapidly? I really don't know.

Any national broadcast for this game?

The Happy Medium was to get this under control in the spring nationwide before the virus became endemic and out of control everywhere. Then, if a school district was in an area with a flare-up, that specific school district could shut down/go virtual for a limited time until the outbreak was under control. It would still have required herculean efforts to limit cases coming through the doors and limit spread when they do, but it could have been done. When you're driving towards a cliff, a happy medium is "turning off at any point before you go over the cliff". Once you have gone over the cliff, it's too late to ask for a happy medium.

If there's one issue they avoided dealing with because it was too tough or expensive...there's probably others. Small School might be the best defense there, there's what a 50/50 chance that if a couple cases arrive, they'll burn themselves out before igniting a chain. But, rural communities aren't blocked off from this, are they keeping all their employees in the bubble too? Who is delivering food, are they getting an NBA level treatment? All that sorta stuff matters too.

So who remembers when this was the official statement by the Alameda PD? Lying police officer shoved him, shoved him again when he pulled out his credentials, then said he refused to show them. And forgot he was on video doing it. -
At North Carolina, what fraction of the players are going to go on to careers in the NFL? 5%? 10%?
-
I'd be angry if they traded away anything controllable. You're going to give up something in this clusterf*** of a season? I guess I could be ok with them trading McCann, as he's their unsigned and already replaced FA who could get something of use back.
-
Seriously, as messed up as this season's schedule is, plus having Rodon on the roster, injuries were going to happen. So far let's just be happy they haven't been career threatening for anyone on our roster, and we'll worry about calling for RH's head next season.
-
North Carolina is in the ACC right? So the ACC is still planning to have football and their first school to have students on campus had to close within a week. No students on campus for classes but football games? This...doesn't quite work.

Just after you posted this, UNC went fully virtual for the semester. 135 cases in 1 week of being open.
