  1. Re-read the post or did it get edited? The original post called Hansen high ceiling, low floor, exactly as you say.
  2. So If I understand this correctly we just drafted a velociraptor in disguise?
  3. Bah, California's voting system could be improved, but the changes in voting system literally turned that state's government from a wreck where a couple Republicans could hamstring the entire state to a fairly smooth running state that occasionally does stupidly liberal things but where the government is now stable, no longer in crisis, and run by adults, because they don't need to listen to the non-adults/Republicans at all.
  4. FWIW, I'm totally ok with offering an opt-out, but the deal-breaker for me is having it after 2020. I need that 3rd year - 2021, to make this worth it for me. I will offer a 2021 opt out, but I need those 3 years to give this roster 3 shots before we have to figure out the next step. That goes for any of these big name players we might target.
  5. The White Sox paid Melky Cabrera $39 million and got a grand total of 1.9 fWAR out of him. At that rate, Bryce Harper would be a $100 million a year player. Edit: At that rate, Mike Trout is on the verge of a $200 million season.
  6. Absolutley - not because of only the first year, but because years 2, 3, and 4 will also be more expensive. That first year is $12 million, but then year 2 of Arb, which would have been $12 million, is now $14 million or $15 million. Ditto the next few years.
  7. It's a darn shame they were so poorly managed over that time.
  8. I would absolutely hate this concept. It works great for the team that develops a Bryce Harper who is up rapidly. It works terribly for the team that develops Josh Donaldson, or Russell Martin, who take years to turn into the player they're going to be.
  9. I know it's 6 hours later but I still can't let this stand. First and foremost he should play at AAA for a month. I get if he's done with AA and that's annoying. He should get a month at AAA. Bigger point that still is not addressed by the article - the increased costs of bringing him up are $20 million, give or take. Those costs are not addressed in the article. Is it worth the cost of a full year of Craig Kimbrel to bring him up right now? Spending literally $20 million, maybe more, to bring him up a month early, when he has yet to appear in AAA, is not good for the fans of the team.
  10. Not quantifiable, but I always think that Scottie Pippen became Scottie Pippen in no small part because someone had to go up against Michael Jordan in practice.
  11. I still say July of this year as I want him up when he's ready, within some limits. But every time I see a rant about this, I'm reminded of one point. The 2015 Chicago Cubs kept Kris Bryant in the minors until 2 weeks in the season to gain an extra year of control. He was probably ready for a September callup the year before. That team won 96 games, the 2nd wild card, and was Daniel Murphy turning into some sort of inhuman away from the world series. Carlos Correa put up a 1.006 OPS in his time at AA and AAA, they kept him down to June for 250 PAs.
  12. I could by Greg as KW's Burner account.
  13. "I'm not being soft so here's the politically correct language I prefer you to use."
  14. Personally I still like the loss column, but same basic idea. Once you've lost a game, you can't give back the loss.
  15. Whatever schedule people decide on for "an extra year of control starts now", and "Cost goes up if you call up before this date", teams will keep players down until that date is passed. For the White Sox, if they call up Jiminez now, that gives him an extra arb year at a cost over $10 million and it raises the cost of each subsequent year. Basically, calling him up right now as opposed to July is a $20 million additional bill. It's a full season of Craig Kimbrel as your closer in order to call up Jiminez now as opposed to July.
  16. As of last week's update the White Sox have had the 7th fewest days spent on the disabled list in MLB. Counting Rodon.
  17. And if he stays it will be double?
  18. So if Tony's version is right and this guy accepts a 2nd degree murder plea bargain in October or he's convicted afterwards, do you admit you were defending a white supremacist murderer and change your behavior based on the fact that you spent a year defending a murderer on behalf of a white supremacist using conspiracy theories?
  19. If he can't throw strikes with his stuff then short stints won't work either. He isn't great in many innings and it's only 7 inning batches, but right now this year, his worst ERA is in the first inning. If he's going to be a successful reliever, even if his delivery wanders with time...he HAS to be able to come in throwing strikes, and he can't do that right now. If he could come in and throw strikes for 1 inning, then he'll be a top closer in this league with his delivery and the movement on his stuff, but he can't do that right now.
  20. Jesus H. Christ dude in January the court date was set for November 2018 for First Degree Murder charges for the driver. By definition "First Degree Murder" charges filed are homicide charges. It's May, November is 6 months from now. I don't know why courts set the schedule that they do, but if you want to prove that the 10 month delay between the trial date being set and the trial date is unusual for high profile cases that's on you, because I would contend it is not. A good prosecutor would not want press right now no matter how strong the case was because "Here press is all our evidence" biases the jury pool.
  21. With what I've seen this year from both of them, given what we have seen so far, right now I have no issue with Davidson at DH and Sanchez at 3b and Harper in the OF and Kimbrel in the closer role or whatever. That may change as the year goes on if they cannot keep up these numbers, but I have no issues with a .750 OPS good defensive 3b and a .850+ OPS DH who occasionally can play 3b and 1b when people get hurt, if they're both cheap enough for me to afford Harper to replace Garcia.
  22. I don't know him personally but I don't think Fulmer needs a "wake up call", I think the Sox have screwed with him way too much. His "Wake up call" was being shelled when he was called up to save the 2016 bullpen (Thanks Rick!). Since then he's been doing everything people have asked him to do to develop a more consistent delivery, he has made delivery changes a number of times, but his delivery is wild as a starting point and there's been so many attempts to alter it, with no time to see if changes work, that the end result is him getting shelled every first inning. He has to get into a single rotation, a single release point, that he can repeat, and throw strikes from. The stuff is there, but the Sox haven't been able to harvest it by turning good stuff into a consistent pitcher because of the choices they made in 2016, and they are still paying for it here.
  23. That is the right move even if he winds up passed and never gets a rotation slot. He needs to repeat his delivery and develop consistency, after having people working on his delivery since he was drafted he can't do that without innings.
