I've been hoping for .850 ish, but no this is not an "unbelievable turnaround" if you count all the guys we have who might have turned into something. I had a list of like 10 this offseason, Davidson included, and I kept saying "if we get 2 or 3 big leaguers out of these guys then we've done a great job". Giving guys who have talent but who have early career struggles the time they need to break out is why it was important that we play the kids this year and take our lumps. Some of these guys were going to turn into big leaguers eventually.

Carlos Rodon has not been "The man" since he was drafted either.

My beef was with your strategy in 2015 and 2016 when they did what you wanted and concocted a roster that couldn't win even if the players tried their best. My beef was with a strategy that said "We'll be worse in 2017 and 2018 in order to have the successes in 2015 and 2016". This is literally the penance for doing what you wanted those seasons.

Which player who is currently playing is not giving their best? Which player who could make this team better is sitting on the bench? The NBA teams did a ton of the 2nd of those and I'd call that a lot more blatant than having a crappy team and admitting it.

I don't believe it's possible for the Bulls to acquire both Kawhi and a max-ish level contract player without moving Asik and Lopez's contracts in deals. They took on long-term money with Asik at the deadline and that pushed them pretty far away from being able to do 2 max-ish deals this offseason. They could acquire Kawhi with small pieces going back to the Spurs at any point since they're below the cap.

Hypothetically let's say we signed Moustakas. So far on the season, Moustakas has been worth 1.0 fWAR and 0.8 rWAR. Our current 3b, Yolmer Sanchez, has been worth 0.6 fWAR and 0.9 rWAR. While Moustakas is better with the bat, Yolmer is better with the glove and with celebrations at home plate. Depending on who's numbers you use, your expenditure on Moustakas is at best a sliver of an upgrade. But wait, in your brilliance you realize that you also are going to use Moustakas at DH sometimes. Congratulations you've now lost an extra game to the Royals by benching Matt Davidson against Jakob Junis, a right handed pitcher! You have now improved our draft position.
