  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) Kristen Clarke ‏Verified account @KristenClarkeJD ALERT: We are receiving reports out of Jefferson County, #Alabama regarding text messages falsely telling voters their polling site has changed. Pls make reports to our 866-OUR-VOTE Election Protection hotline. Call us to confirm your polling location and vote! Kristen Clarke ‏Verified account @KristenClarkeJD ALERT: We are receiving reports regarding a hostile precinct chief in Ramer, #Alabama (Montgomery Cty.). If you face voter intimidation, please contact our 866-OUR-VOTE Election Protection hotline. #AlabamaSenateRace For reference, this stuff happens every election. It should be prosecuted, it never is (unless the black panthers did it), it's a form of voter fraud but not the "kind of voter fraud we need to care a huge amount about because caring about that happens to also disenfranchise a whole lot of blah peoples and they should count for something like 60% of a person at most", it's unlikely to be evidence of a systematic campaign of anything, if it happens to you it should absolutely be reported because that's the only way to prove a systematic campaign if that ever happened, and unless there's a lot of alabama voters here who might be directly affected I don't think this is worth caring much about.
  2. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Yolmer Sanchez for Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, and Jacoby Ellsbury? On paper that's not an unfair deal...but that also shows how insane the return needs to be if we're both giving up a pre-arb 2 win player and taking back $60 million. A top 100 guy, a former top 20 guy coming back with him. It sounds unbelievable and probably is.
  3. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) Don't forget we'd get a good prospect back (presumably). Who could we realistically expect if such a crazy thing happened? We spent what, $25 million on Robert and gave up the ability to sign a top flight international player for 2 years and the "over the limit" signing penalty? For Ellsbury we'd be taking on $63 million, so way more money than Robert although no signing penalty? Basically it has to be someone who is comparable to Robert, if not better, since most of that $63 million is valueless to us. We're talking Frazier or Torres or someone at the very top of the Yankees system who can step in and be an all star by 2020.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) We would take on Ellsbury to get ahold of another player from the Yankees system. We'd buy a prospect just like the Padres did with Headley. I understand that, but the post I was replying to talked about Ellsbury being worth about 1/2 his deal. He might well perform like a 1.5 win player each of the next 3 years and that's a tolerable CF, but if that takes playing time away from someone who could develop into a big leaguer that hurts us in a different way. There's a cost associated with us giving him playing time when we could be developing a useful piece of our own.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) I did look back at his contract and see that it is about $21 million each year (I initially thought it was like $25) for the next 3 years. I feel like if they offered one of those guys, I would probably take it and then play Ellsbury and hope he can do well enough to dump most of his salary. You would have to think he's worth close to at least half his salary. What makes the White Sox better long term, playing someone like Engel or Polo in CF and someone like Delmonico at LF/DH, or playing Ellsbury and hoping he recovers enough value to be tradeable at some point? If we were going to take on an Ellsbury and do anything other than dump him, I'd only want to do it if Garcia was moved. That clears a spot where now we can do Ellsbury and Delmonico both in the lineup regularly and there's still room for the beast.
  6. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) that's essentially a top 100 prospect,.. Which Yolmer is not worth that TY. That's kind of what I meant by saying "We would need to get fair value for this guy to move him", and yea I agree it's unlikely that teams would give up that kind of value for him.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) I came up with a very similar valuation for Sanchez, again which is contingent on believing Yolmer is a 2.5ish WAR player going forward. If you can get a 55 FV prospect for him I think you take the offer and run. I love me some Sanchez, but this early in the rebuild we should gambling on high ceiling players rather than floor. I don't know how to translate the units FV into anything meaningful to me. Can you clarify? Add a player comp?
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) Sanchez might be a guy Hahn and company feel may be overvalued for what he brings. Dude is a fantastic locker room presence and obviously the glove is really good. One thing I hope they've learned based on their recent failures is not to underestimate the value of cheap, pre-arb guys who give you 2-3 wins a year. They may not be all stars, but when you have to try to find those guys on the FA market to fill holes, you wind up paying for the LaRoches and Melky Cabreras and Bonifacios and Navarro/Avilas of the world. If you're going to move him, you have to get something that is likely useful to the team in return, because a 2 win player filling a 3b spot or a utility spot is a solid, useful piece. You will spend $10 million to find that piece if you don't have it, and the guys you'll bring in to do that will be questionable.
  9. Well this was a generally quiet first day for everyone huh?
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) I'm not sure how much that really happened in the last election considering the national polls were accurate and it was a few states that were off by normal polling error. Alabama has a chance to show today that they aren't who we all think they are (I think they fail). And, just like Alabama, a few of those states (Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan) had recently enacted the voter ID requirements and limited early voting, to make it harder for those undesirable people to vote.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) What risk are you referring to? He was still like a 2.3 WAR player despite a down offensive year. If you guys think Abreu is the better or more valuable player that’s completely fine, but let’s not act like JBJ is some bum and don’t ignore the fact he’s younger, cheaper, & under control for an additional year. So why do the White Sox need a 1st year arb, 2.3 WAR center fielder in 2018? Isn't that 2.3 WAR basically going to waste if he does the same thing?
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 05:17 PM) The Pirates are willing to listen to offers for Gerrit Cole; the Yankees and Pirates match up well for potential deals at this juncture, as sources confirm; Brian Cashman and Neal Huntington have an extensive trade history. Time will tell. https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/940328475730350080 Yeah someone floated Cole in the other thread and that's a perfect matchup for Frazier.
  13. They probably still won't be able to hit that forkball.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Ha yeah right. He sure as hell won't be extended. That's an excellent Clint Frazier match.
  15. JBJ right now is a CF coming off a 2.3 WAR season. To a team with a CF weakness, that's a useful piece right now, without thinking about any ceiling. They don't have anything I'm interested in right now outside of their big leaguers, but for the Cubs - he's an upgrade on Almora just for doing that.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) The guy had 142 ML plate appearances and 289 total innings in the field, all for a guy logging his first major league time at Age 22. Jumping off of a bridge because of that sample is pretty dangerous. You have to trust your scouts. Right now what the universe is telling me is...the guy came up showing an incredibly quick bat and developable skills, but then the team that saw him the most, the Yankees, tossed him aside for a big money slugger they did not need to acquire if they believed in Frazier.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) I am certain the Sox could deal Fulmer for more than nothing. But I do agree that the likelihood of them trading him is very low. Fulmer's the kind of guy the White Sox should want right now. Plenty of talent, some minor league struggles, could break out if given a big league shot, could wind up as a reliever, no major harm if he has a terrible year. For 2018 that's still the kind of guy we should be playing.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) So the latest two polls in Alabama are: Moore +9 (Emerson) Jones +10 (Fox news, which is a perfectly legitimate and typically good pollster) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Nobody has any experience for how to create a random sample in this state or how to build a likely voter model when one of the two candidates is endorsed by the President and, like the president, is also an accused sex offender.
  19. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) Red Sox making JBJ available. Do not want. So we've got a guy that fits them perfectly but they don't have the assets to interest us. Any ways we could work out a 3rd team? Aside from the Cubs, what other contender seems to have a CF weakness going into next year?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) Not when one side is using more hateful, inciteful, and provocative language to create the situation that exists. Honestly it is similar or worse than how Trump's description of immigrants was portrayed, yet barely anything is said. The whole, don't let the few define the whole thing? Nope. "To create the situation"? I dunno, I think the people getting shot sort of creates the situation.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 10:35 PM) Agreed, although I think times have changed and improved when it comes to scouting and projecting accurately People keep saying this based on their gut feelings but the last time I did a round of this, it seemed like the same number of busts were showing up in the top 100 most years.
