  1. Nope. As long as the opinion is genuine and fair, that's all I really care about. I could care less if you like Metallica -- but to say they are irrelevant is simply not accurate. Tell the 70,000 screaming fans that were in LA last night that they are irrelevant. And your "I don't think they're getting people to form bands" argument is weak. How many 40 year olds have that strong an influence over the youth of America? Not many. And I'm glad Metallica doesn't conform to what their "fans" want -- makes them better people to do it their way, and I respect them more for it. Anyone can be a follower and do what's safe, but it takes someone special to take a chance and try something different. You're never going to please everybody, but like I said, based on the crowd last night (and everywhere else this tour has been), I'd say Metallica is doing quite well for themselves. A lot better than any of our careers are going, that's for certain.

    Frank

I could have sworn that I've read about Frank doing a lot of charity work in the past. Is that true? And if so, does he still do it? And if so, what kinds of things does he do? Thanks in advance.
  3. The views of 1 or 2 do not compose the opinion of "this board", do they? And for the record, I defend Frank against his critics when I deem it's unwarranted criticism. Like for example, Frank is struggling lately, but if someone starts bagging on him for it, they better bag on Magglio just the same, because over their last 10 games, both are extremely cold. All I expect is fairness -- not someone playing favorites just for the sake of playing favorites.
  4. really f***y classy but hey, we knew that of you anyway. :dips*** HSC lives in a glass house -- she shouldn't throw stones. When she wants to cease the insults and attempted ridicule, I shall do the same. Until then, I care not what you nor anyone else thinks about my level of "class". If you would remove your biases (pipe dream, I know, but hey, here's to hopin'...), you would see that she is just as much to blame for our "arguments" as I am.
  5. Same as what happened with Giambi after 2000 and Tejada after 2003. They can't afford to compete in the FA market, so when their big stars are up for grabs, they can't afford them. It's sad for Oakland fans.

    Not sure...I'm blind now.
  7. After seeing that pic of you that Steff posted, I think I might be gay now. :puke :puke :puke

Steff, were you going to a Sox game or to the beach?
  9. Agree 100%. 12 starts is plenty of time to show what you've got, and by the looks of it, DW has nothing this year. Hopefully if he stays in the pen, he'll remember how to pitch (or at least pitch well enough to not kill us).
  10. Has anyone checked to see if that's correct? I'll try and do it... OK, I think I did it right (the way I figured it out is I counted 1, 2, 3..etc, and when there was an off-day in the middle of that, I assumed the Sox would skip the #5 that time). Anyway, if my calculations are correct, our #5 will have 7 more starts. The games are... August 12 @ Anaheim August 17 @ Texas August 22 vs. Texas September 7 vs. Cleveland September 12 @ Boston September 22 vs. New York September 27 @ KC (although, I don't see us going with our #5 for that game unless Cotts or whoever is lights out if this game is for the division) So I'd say there are 3 tough starts in there (the last 3), and 4 games that we should win (the first 4).
  11. Who is making this decision? It's genius! Why didn't we think of it sooner? About f***ing time. Ya know, as a manager, you have to give your employees (and the group as a whole) the best possible chance to succeed. To my knowledge, PK does not have a problem going from 1B to DH, but apparently Frank does (his career numbers at each of the "positions" are VERY telling, and do not lie), so JM needs to cater to that. Call it a "mentally weak" flaw if you wish, but it is what it is -- and nobody will doubt that the Sox are a MUCH better team when Frank is hitting the ball as compared to what he's been doing lately (although, he DID have the GW RBI today ), so I'm all for this move.
  12. Looks like we're headed for a 2-2 series.
  13. Um...how many more starts is our #5 going to have? A handful? I'd hardly call that "resting our hopes on a AA pitcher". And I say let's give the kid a shot. Why can't he do the same thing MB did? MB wasn't even considered one of our top prospects (at least I don't think he was), and he's handled himself just fine at the ML level. If Cotts gets rocked, he goes back down -- not that big of a deal. Luckily we're in a division where 90 wins will likely not be necessary to win make the post season, so we have some room for error. But, if we keep playing the way we've been playing, we'll be just fine, regardless of who our #5 starter is.
  14. Like I was saying to a buddy eariler, there is no better time than now for the Sox to be going to Anaheim. They have Erstad and Glaus on the DL, and Salmon just got injured Saturday night. They've also lost 20 out of 25 games since the ASB, and I'm sure they're finally realizing that their season is over, and hopefully they'll be aloof enough for us to take 3 and win the series. We're gonna have Colon, TBA, Buehrle, and Garland...right?
  15. Well, you're right about Metallica being awesome, but I disagree that St. Anger and I Disappear are their best songs. But, unlike The Critic, I am going to allow you to have your own opinion. Everyone has a different taste for music, and I am willing to respect that. Critic, on the other hand, calls someone a "sheep" for liking their current music, and says Metallica is now "irrelevant", simply because he does not prefer their "new" style.
  16. I stand corrected. But, if you want to let a couple of songs that you find s***ty keep you from experiencing something like I did last night, that's your choice, but at the same time your loss IMO. Metallica was as good as ever last night, and barring something unforseen, they're going to be kicking ass for many years to come. Bands change man, they have to if they want to survive the cut-throat world of music. They've been kicking ass since 1981, and they're still putting out albums that go multi-platinum in a matter of weeks. I don't think they need advice on how to do things. And BTW, stop asking me how many ketchups I want. Just give me a handful and be done with it.
  17. When you've seen them live in concert, you can talk. Until then, your words mean nothing.
  18. I know all I need to know. Divorced, loud, obnoxious, old, alcoholic = no thanks, toots. And if the unfortunate day comes that I am forced to set eyes on someone as unsightly as you, I would give you the same respect I give every other human being. But as soon as you started spouting off like you do on here, I'd tell you exactly what I thought about you, just like I do on here. I call it like I see it -- regardless of the venue. The rest of your post is nonsensical, and there's not much point in arguing about it since no matter how true my words are, you refuse to listen, as you are set in your scewed ways, and you know what they say -- you can't teach an old (and I do mean old) dog (and I DO mean dog) new tricks.
  19. , whatever you say. Are you so delirious that you think a man with any sense of class or style would want to be with a 40 year alcoholic old single mother? LOL, what does that have to do with this discussion? Oh yeah, nothing, but since you're getting owned, you feel the need to rehash it yet again. Just admit you're getting your wrinkled ass handed to you and save some face (which is equally as wrinkled, I'm sure). You got me there
  20. cluho is there a problem with bmr and i being FRIENDS????? i mean geez us..we met we had a good time and we are FRIENDS.. if that doesnt sit right with you then too f***in bad....everyone who meets up on here doesnt have to be romantically involved.... I don't know what bizarro world you live in, but in the world that I live in (reality), friends don't hope for "special packages" from their friends...say they're attractive...nor call their eyes "yummy". All of those comments suggest that you are interested in him. i dont know what little bubble you live in, but geez us theres absoutly nothing wrong with "playing around" amoungst friends.......they are words and nothing more.. little inside jokes which you dont understand obviously, between bmr and i.......you act like you may be jealous cause no one plays around with you like that....... get over it.....theres nothing going on ok......... Hmmm...inside jokes? Normally an inside joke is something that both parties are aware of. It's generally not one person "making a joke", and the other one wondering "wtf is she talking about?" And why would I be jealous? If I was desperate enough, I could get a chick just like you. They're a dime a dozen down at the local saloon.
  21. Apu is once again wrong, as there were about 70,000 INSANE fans last night at the LA Memorial Coliseum (all of whom, surprisingly, stayed to see Metallica, despite their irrelevance). Everybody was there for one reason, and Metallica did not disappoint. They were simply incredible, and they put on a tremendous show. They sounded great, and the crowd was great. We knew all the words, and we sang in unison on several occasions. It was a rare moment when everyone ranging from drug addicts to law abiding citizens share a common bond, and during "Nothing Else Matters", it was a very spiritual feeling to have that many people experiencing the same joy of singing as one. I know, that sounds like hippy crap, but that's the way it was. Overall, the other bands sucked ass, and they sounded awful. Metallica's sound was off for the first 2 songs, but they tweeked it and it sounded very good after that. The stage was awesome, and our new bass player Rob did a fantastic job. James was very charming and funny on the mic, and the pyro/lights made it even more of an event. It was the best $75 I've ever spent, and I can't wait until their next tour that starts in the US in February -- I'll be right back to see them wherever they are, as will THOUSANDS of other fans. Metallica pride themselves on delivering live, and I've seen many of their concerts on DVD -- the one last night is the best one to date.
  22. Wannabe? Just because Bmr is one of the very few people around here with common sense and therefore I agree with him most of the time, I'm a wannabe? That's logical. I think you're gettin a little big for your britches, Spiff.

    Board Behavior

When I started, I was 229. I'm 6'1", so 229 isn't completely obese, but I was very unhappy, so I decided to finally get my fat ass into gear and lose around 40 pounds. I started in mid-July, and I've lost 12.5 pounds so far. I've altered my diet a lot. I work nights, so I eat out almost every night. Also, I was eating a ton of candy and drinking a lot of soda throughout my shift. So I've cut out the burgers and fries, along with the soda and candy. All of the carbs were killing me. In addition, I'm exercising as much as I can. It's hard to do it on days that I have to work, but I play basketball and walk when I get a chance. Also, I'm drinking (water) like a fish. I used to drink all soda, but now I drink about a gallon a day. Arrowhead rules! Oh yeah, and chips are out too. So far, it's working great.

More on Shockey... http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2003/0809/1593056.html He "doesn't think" he called Parcells a homo. He thinks it "might" have been a friend of his. He's "not 100% sure" he didn't say it". Time for Mr. Shockey to grow up and be a professional. His HS days are supposed to be behind him.
