Or did you listen to a few songs and give up on it? I can see why you might feel that way if you had pre-conceived notions going into it and didn't give it a chance. I had to listen to it (it being the whole album, all 11 songs, nearly 75 minutes worth) a few times before I got over the "shock", as it was a very different sound. Metallica has changed styles quite a few times in their 20 years, but that's what all great bands do. If a band doesn't change and evolve, they will not survive very long, and will not be as successful as Metallica has been. When I first heard St. Anger, I had a grade of about a C in my head. Maybe a C-. But now, I'd give it a B. That's coming from a big Metallica fan, so granted it's a biased rating, but it really does get better every time you hear it. And if you were expecting something like Master of Puppets or The Black Album, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Oh, there's plenty of metal left in them. Rob has given the band a new burst of life, and they're back to doing what they do best -- kicking their fans' asses.

I would presume that surgery would end his season, and I think some of you are vastly underestimating how much this could affect the Sox if we make it to the post-season. In the playoffs (as we saw in 2000 vs. Seattle), games are MUCH lower scoring, and "small ball" really is vital. Part of "small ball" is base stealing, and with Olivo out of there, that will re-open that option for our opponent(s). If we were to play Seattle again, a single/walk by Ichiro would stay as such with Olivo -- without him, that single can very easily turned into a double (or triple) by the speedy Suzuki. Miguel's lack of offense is well-documented (at least in '03), but our playoff chances are not going to hinge on Miguel Olivo's bat. Let's hope he doesn't need surgery.

You'd be right except for one thing -- previous actions. Jeremy Shockey has a history of running his punkass mouth off, and more than once he's made degrading remarks about homosexuals. Kobe, on the other hand, had a SQUEAKY clean image prior to a few weeks ago. Shockey made his initial anti-gay comments on Howard, which is heard in dozens of cities and by about 20 million listeners every morning. Kobe, on the other hand again, was in a hotel room with 1 other person. Only they know what happened. And yes, I point out that he is innocent until proven guilty because that's one of the things our legal system is based upon. Nice try though.
