I don't know if I'd call it embarassing, but a couple years back I was in Calculus (I think I was a sophomore in college) and we were taking a test. The professor handed them out, and like all good students do, I previewed the test by taking a look at all of the questions. I got to the back page, and it was the scariest looking problem I'd ever seen, with like 5 or 6 parts to it. I had my headphones on at the time, and when I saw the problem, I said "oh s***". I thought it was to myself or very quiet, but since I had the headphones on, I lost control of how loud I was talking, and when I looked up, everyone was looking at me and laughing.

Um, nobody argued that 1-5 our rotation is better than Oakland's. All I was saying is that our top 3 of BC, MB, and EL will most definitely keep us in the game against Oakland's top 3, and that this season, they're pretty close in terms of quality. In the playoffs, a team doesn't need 4 or 5 starters -- 3 is all that is needed. And BTW, the Sox have more quality starts than the A's do (as of a week ago), so the gap must not be as big as some of you think it is.

I don't know who Dan Abrams is (the prosecutor?), but I'm glad the gag order is being honored. It's unfortunate that the defense can't have access to this supposed "evidence" to be able to comment on it. Kobe's being nailed to the cross, and has no chance to defend himself. And do you think JM was happy? He only threw 11 pitches in the 8th. If he goes out in the 9th and does his job, he throws maybe 12-15 more, for a total of around 25. That is a bit more than usual, but nothing overly excessive.

When we had one (Koch), all most of you did was b**** about how he sucks and you wanted him out of there. Make up your mind. JM has to work with the deck that he has, and if we constantly have a pitcher who is in a slump, it's hard for him to have any kind of consistency in using the bullpen. Maybe blame KW for not addressing this issue at the trade deadline. A guy like Scott Williamson was available.

Sounds a lot like what was probably being said before our series with the M's in 2000. Our pitching was supposed to be our weak point, but our offense was going to make up for it. And we all know how that turned out.
