But it was a 10-0 loss. That destroys momentum. If they come back today and win maybe Ill start believing but its really demotivating when you get shut out and give up 10 runs... Losing 1-0 or blowing a lead late is much more devastating for a team than losing 10-0. When you lose that big, typically you can get it out of your mind before you even leave the ballpark. And with the early game today, even if we're still thinking about it, we won't have much time to dwell on it.

LMAO! I thought you were going to bet on Seattle? I told you not to bet on Wright!
  3. I know that doub but Gil Meche scares me. On the more positive side, didnt we face Meche last year and kill him? I think we did... I don't know what we did against him last year, but here are his career numbers vs. the Sox... 4.40 ERA in 28 2/3 IP, and he's got a record of 3-2. On the other side, there's Buehrle, and here are his career numbers vs. Seattle... 2.65 ERA in 34 IP, and he's got a record of 2-2.
  4. We've gotta beat them eventually -- why not start now? Our inabilities against Seattle cost us the season in 2000, and I don't want the same fate for 2003. Plus, we're the hottest team in baseball right now. If we can't take a series against them now, we may never do it.
  5. I don't expect wins all the time out of anybody -- and certainly not a 5th starter. But to have 0 wins in 12 starts is not OK. Show me another team that has a starter who has started 12 games and has 0 wins.

    Well

I don't like reading the comments from my fellow posters after we lose (especially when it's 10-0 ), so I apologize in advance since I'm sure I will say many things that have already been said. That said, last night sounded just brutal. I had to work (as usual), but I got regular updates during the Anaheim/Toronto game, and it kept getting worse and worse. Our offense was bound to have a bad game, as was our pitching, but unfortunately it all happened at once. 3 hits? 10 runs allowed? That is simply unacceptable -- even with your #5 starting. Frank and Magglio seem to have really cooled off over the past 3 games (a combined 0 for their last 21 ), but thankfully we're 2-1 in those games. Carlos Lee is really on fire, as he is 34 for 84 since the ASB, which comes out to a sizzling .405. Along with that average, he's hit 10 HR and driven in 26 runs. Danny Wright, IMO, should never start a game for the Sox again until we're either completely out of it or so far up that he can't harm us. He's started 12 games this year, and has 0 wins. 0. That, any way you slice it, is horrid. His ERA is equally as horrid, at 6.18. If the talks of going to a 4 man rotation were serious (I read that in an article a couple of days ago), I think now is the time to do it. Either that, or pick up some scrub off waivers. If not, call up someone that can get guys out -- Cotts? We were going to lose big eventually. We all knew that. The key now is the same as it was after our 8-game winning streak ended against Tampa Bay -- how we respond to it. We've got 1 more game on this road trip, and we're already assured of going back to Chicago with at least a 4-2 record. I think most of us would have taken that. However, if we expect to contend for the division (and in the playoffs if we make it that far), games like the one Sunday are crucial. We've got our hottest pitcher going for us in Mark Buehrle, who has an ERA of 2.88 over his last 9 starts (all Sox victories). And we're facing Gil Meche, who has an ERA of 6.59 over his last 5 starts. It looks good on paper, but we'll see how it goes. I read that Frank will not play (not only is he mired in a slump, but JM said he wants him to get hit #2000 at home, so Daubach will likely be the DH), and Robbie Alomar will also not be starting (he told JM he doesn't like playing day games after playing at night the day before). So look for Tony G (or possibly Willie Harris) to also be in the lineup. Big game Sunday -- let's go get em Sox!
  7. Question...does Wright have a history of performing well when his back is to the wall? I know Garland normally does better when there's talk of him losing his spot in the rotation (hasn't happened lately, but it's happened in the past) -- does Wright have the same reaction to adversity?
  8. When the WS was an all-NY series in 2000, nobody outside of NY really cared about it. I wonder if an all-Chicago WS would be any different? I wouldn't mind finding out.
  9. One thing that can't be argued is that Koch is no longer the closer because of Koch. Had he performed the way he had last year in Oakland, Tom Gordon would still be the right-handed set up man. So, logic would tell me that if Koch starts playing the way he did last year (the biggest part of that being a high-90's heater), he'll win the job back.
  10. 1995. It came down to a 1-game playoff, and Griffey scored from 1st on a double to end the game. It was pretty awesome.
  11. Just 2 or 3 days ago you said you would no longer respond to any of my posts. I'm glad to see you are a man of your word.
  12. I can't believe that pointless debate went on for 6 pages. , some of you have too much time on your hands to participate in that for as long as you did.

    Does the 27 stand?
  14. Well, I don't think he'll hit another 50 this year, but if he ends up with 50 (that would be 17 more, so I think that's a pretty safe bet that he'll do it), he'll have 663 in his career. He would only need 93 more to break Hank's record. That's 31 a year for 3 years (and I think he'll play at least 3 more after this year, especially if he goes to the AL as a DH). It's a virtual lock IMO.
  15. There's a difference between a player just sucking, and a player not playing up to his capabilities. I think we would all agree that Koch, thus far with the Sox, has not even come close to performing up to his ability, so I think we need to continue to support him until he does so, regardless of the results. If he had a 5.40 ERA and threw 93 MPH for his whole career prior to joining the Sox, it would be easy to give up on him because he's never really performed well. But, his success as Oakland's closer, IMO, gives him some leeway with us Sox fans, and our support is only going to help him get back to that level.
  16. ref #1 you are right and i stand corrected #2, by defination he was traded for. and i was a huge guerrier supported #3 you got me there, i wasn't sure and i was looking for link of his trades.damn #4. does not pertain to this what if situation. #5 ref rios, are you sure, i will debate this one. #6. ramirez and abbott. i imo considered this a bust. abbott was playing and we release ramirez the next yr. Yes, we signed Rios as a FA...I'm 99.9% sure of that.
  17. I'm going with #1. Unless the guy dies tomorrow or suffers a career-ending injury, he'll shatter 755 IMO.
  18. I don't blame the Mariner players for being pissed. Last year they did nothing and it cost them, and this year the team chasing them, Oakland, went out and got a quality bat in Jose Guillen. IMO, they have every right to question management and their motives.
  19. I read an article that said the Sox might go to a 4-man rotation soon (presumably if Danny comes back and struggles). So, it may turn out that the Sox don't need a #5 guy.
  20. Indeed. However, I believe we play them again next week at Comiskey, so hopefully we can do more of the same then. If they turn right back around and sweep us, the past 3 days will be erased.
  21. He was in Iraq. Business or pleasure?
  22. Heh, where have you been? No matter where I am (even on vacation), I make it a point to find out what happened in the sports world. Hell, a lot of times I use the wireless PC feature of my cell phone to get scores. It costs me $0.40 a minute, but I just can't help myself.
  23. I love his attitude, and his quote is so honest it's refreshing. I also like how he showed shades of Ricky Henderson with the talking in the 3rd person.
