  1. Also, parents need to teach their children not to look to athletes as role models in all aspects of life. Parents need to explain that there is a huge difference between admiring a professional athlete for their on the field/court attributes (such as determination, will, effort, sportsmanship, etc) and for their lives that they have off the court (many of which include vices such as drug/alcohol abuse, sexual promiscuity, etc). IMO, Kobe Bryant on the court is as good as a role model as there is in sports. He never dogs it, he's extremely talented, and he's probably the hardest working athlete in sports today. His goal is to become the best NBA player of all-time, and barring an unforeseen injury or a conviction in this case, I believe he has as good a chance as anyone has to achieve that goal. If any human being is hailed as a saint in all aspects of their life, he/she is bound to disappoint. Kobe Bryant, apparently, is no different.

    What's best?

LOL, so we're talking about what, a 1 second difference? Just long enough to drag and click the mouse? Just as a reference, mooch, I've had DSL for about 3-4 months now, and I've never had any major problems with it. It will occasionally need to be reset and my username/password re-entered, but that process only takes a couple of minutes. The set-up is a breeze (about 20-30 minutes, just following basic directions), and obviously it kicks the hell out of dial-up. Also, FYI, the company I use is Earthlink. They don't have very high ratings from their customers, but I got the modem and all the equipment in the mail pretty quick (about 1 week), and like I said, have had no major issues.
  3. It's called PR. Kobe's hearing is on Wednesday afternoon, and that night is when the Teen Choice Awards will be airing. So, on the nightly news, instead of seeing only footage of Kobe in a court with a judge being formally charged with sexual assault, you'll also see clips of him and his wife smiling and holding hands in public. At this point, it's a battle in the court of public opinion, and this was a brilliant move by Kobe and his legal team, IMO. And why would it be "tasteless" to attend an awards show and accept an award given to him by his fans that help pay his multi-million dollar contract with the Lakers and multi-million dollar contracts with multiple other corporations? Are you saying that someone accused of a crime should cease to live their life until the matter is resolved?

    What's best?

I have DSL, and all I have to do is click the IE icon, and my homepage pops right up. Isn't that what you're talking about?
  5. In all seriousness dude...just leave now. Your comments have always been border line insane, but you've crossed the line and are at the point of no return. Your fickleness is absurd, as is your status as a "fan". :fyou
  6. Don't confuse neurosis for passion.
  7. LOL! And Bmr, I don't know if we need to sweep, but we certainly need at least 2 out of 3. Over our next 6 home games (vs. KC and Oakland), we need to go at least 4-2. Although, 5-1 would be very nice too.

    Concert goers

My first real concert (something non-county fair with only 500-1000 people) is this Saturday, as I'll be attending the "Summer Sanitarium" show in LA featuring the best heavy rock band of all-time, Metallica. The show is at the Los Angeles Coliseum -- which seats upwards of 100,000. The show starts at 3 PM, but based on several show reports I've read about shows across the country, Metallica doesn't go on stage until around 9 PM. The other bands I don't really care much to see, and I don't want to sit there for 6 hours in the hot sun if I can avoid it. But, I also want to be there in plenty of time. Things that I have to take into account are parking -- I don't want to wait until 6 or 7 and show up, and find that there is no parking. I also don't want to risk not having a seat when I get there. So, my question is to anyone who has ever been to a big-time concert -- do you have any advice? Thanks in advance.

    Being Admin

So basically it's like the VP -- they do nothing.

    Worrying

    Junior? As in Jr. Asparagus?

    BMR meets Hsc

BS. Cop to it now and save me the investigation time.
  12. Then whoever threw it would be sitting in a jail cell and likely charged with assault. Perhaps assault with a deadly weapon.
  13. As to why JM doesn't use him in crucial situations early? I have no friggin clue. Seems elementary to me that he would use Wunsch whenever the situation called for it -- not just late in the game. But, I'm not JM, so I don't know what his reasoning is (if any).

    Worrying

If we miss the playoffs and manage to bring back those guys you just mentioned, I would consider it a minor miracle. Especially Colon.
  15. He's got a 0.96 ERA -- you DO NOT want him in when the game's on the line. Not to mention, the opposition is hitting a whopping .102 against him. And you want to know why JM doesn't use him in crucial situations.

    Appier

I might have lied to you...I cannot find it anywhere. I did read an article on the Royals' homepage that says the have interest in picking Appier up if/when he clears waivers. That should have already happened, as he was released a few days ago, but who knows. I'm confused.

    Just go home

    Bingo. 100% correct.
  18. He's got too much talent to just give up on him. He could turn out to be like Eric Gagne. How would you like it if we released him, and a team like Minnesota or KC picked him up and he turned into a dominant closer? I'd want to puke if we did that without giving him a chance first. He's got too good of an arm to toss him out like garbage.

    Appier

Am I imagining things guys? Didn't KC pick up Appier? I would have bet my life they did, but as I look for an article about it on the net, I can't find anything.

    Appier

Appier was released around Tuesday or Wednesday, and I think KC picked him up on Thursday (maybe Friday). Right now, nobody else has been released that I know of -- at least not anyone that would be of value to the Sox.
  21. I think our #5 only has like 4 or 5 more starts scheduled for the rest of the year. In reality, the lack of a #5 isn't going to make or break us. The biggest effect of not having a good #5 is that it can wear out your bullpen if he gets rocked early. Thankfully, we didn't have to use any of our main guys (except for Wunsch), and with Buehrle on the hill today, we shouldn't need much 'pen help anyway. Maybe the Sox can try Wright in the pen, send Ginter back down, and call up a guy from AAA to fill the #5 spot. See how it goes for 2-3 weeks, then decide what we want to do before the August 31 "playoff roster" deadline.

    Appier

You didn't know? KC already picked him up.
