  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) I hope the Sox hire an experienced bench coach. However, I guess Cooper brings some solid experience as well. Or is Harold the bench coach now? They absolutely have to hire an experienced bench coach at this point.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) Milkman, How do I know hes legit? Id say its because Ive read and watched a few things about Robin Ventura in my day. (edit) Really, because I havent met/watched/seen Ozzie versus Robin? A lot of you guys are going to look silly for yelling about Robin without even letting him manage a game. And if we're right, we were just a bunch of negative jerks who would have been against any move no matter what. When you're wrong, you get to just say that I was being a hopeful fan.
  3. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Yow. I was as surprised as anybody and disappointed that one of the commonly mentioned choices wasn't choses. Came to read other thoughts and am overwhelmed by the anger. Come on! It is not worth this level of angst. There's no question he does know the game. It's reasonable to be skeptical and to wonder what happened to the other candidates, but this is a board for White Sox fans. The hatred and assumption that he'll fail is neither warranted nor useful. We should've hired Jose Valentin, Dan Pasqua, Jeff Abbott, Chris Widger, or Greg Norton then. I'm sure they've all had as much coaching experience as Ventura while also having played the game.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) Dasox, Yes Girardi never coached before he became manager of the Marlins. So he sucked. Because you know, playing baseball for 10+ years and being in clubhouses, isnt experience. He was a bench coach. Good lie, though.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) Exactly, so there's no reason to completely s*** on the move yet either. Yes, there is. You could hire someone who's had experience as a manager or coach at some motherf***ing point in his entire life.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Well Robin as a player was the antithesis of Ozzie, so unless he drastically changes who he is, you have to expect he will coach the same way as he plays. In fact, how do you know how Dave Martinez would coach, hes never managed before. Of all sports, baseball is the one where the manager needs the least amount of experience. Its such a simple sport to manage. Again, the only thing you know is that he's quiet. You can't say he's the antithesis based solely on that.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) Just so you know, Joe Torre was a manager with 0 experience (he actually was player manager, than manager, never coached at a lower level). Some guy named Connie Mack never was anything less than a manager. That was 117 years ago.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) that'll show them Yes, I've heard that joke before. When enough people get fed up with an organization, like they did in 2011, they feel it.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Steve, NBA and MLB are apples and oranges. Im pretty sure that Robin can read stat sheets and make better decisions than Ozzie. Im pretty sure that in a year or 2 people are going to wonder why they ever questioned Robin. The guy is legit, he just never wanted to be a coach before, otherwise hed have a ton of useless experience. I'm glad you can question the uproar when there's exactly as much evidence to support it as your bold statement.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) I won't. This has failure written all over it. Exactly. Why do they deserve the benefit of the doubt? They've made nothing but incorrect moves for years now, and we're supposed to just give them the benefit because they hired a guy with no experience whatsoever when there were about 5 guys with experience and/or credentials available?
  11. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Are you f***ing KIDDING ME?!?! Did Dave Martinez punch Kenny in the face during the interview? Did he even GET an interview???? I was so excited once Ozzie was gone... now I'm FURIOUS! I don't think so. An article today mentioned something about Martinez being surprised that he was high on their list and that an interview hadn't happened yet.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) There's no way this will "Get the attention of the ignorant masses of fans". Unless you mean because they realize that the people paying attention are shockingly pissed off. I already see it on my Facebook page. Statuses popping up about how awesome a signing it is. At best at this point, it's almost a lateral move. Nobody has a f***ing clue how this guy is at managing, but since everyone remembers him as a good player, they're excited.
  13. QUOTE (SoIL @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) LOL! At least we don't have that dumba$$ Guillen and worthless Walker anymore! Right guys! Right. Serious.
  14. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) I really think I'm gonna go break something...you have got to be s***tin' me?!? WTF happened to the interview process?!? I'm getting angrier by the second. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do a full boycott in 2012. No going to games, not even watching them on TV.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) This organization is a f***ing joke. Why can't JR sell his stakes. Yup, I'm not even sure I want to watch next year. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) This is like something a fan would think up. Exactly. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) MDGonzales Mark Gonzales KW: “I wanted someone who met very specific criteria centered around his leadership abilities. Robin Ventura was that man. " Let me phrase it correctly: We wanted to hire someone on the cheap while also getting the attention of the masses of ignorant fans by bringing back a player they used to like.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) Yes. and Dunn threw a trident into a bears chest on the field. It was glorious Haha, picturing it is pure gold.
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) Character actor Charles Napier, 75. Oh, that sucks. He had such a memorable voice, too. Did a lot of voice acting.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:17 AM) Dunn's first game this year... he was awesome. I thought the Sox would be unstoppable. That f***ing appendectomy ruined all of his momentum. Oh yes, I was giddy.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 01:35 AM) So you guys get your wish. I won't bury him. I hope he succeeds. LOL, can't openly mock it, so you just put a dour mood on the thread instead.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) If JR can't resign Buehrle because of the 5 or so mil more Q will cost next year then he should sell the team. And he wouldn't be stealing time if him and Vic play the corners with Rios/Aza in CF. Edit- And please don't confuse my stance on this as some sort of retarded "he makes people smile in restaurants". I wanted Q traded last deadline, but now I'd rather just ride it out and hope Dunn, Peavy, and Beckham remember how to not suck and our lineup becomes Aza/Beckham/Q/Dunn/PK/Dayan/Alexei/C/Morel. I think we should give KW the time to see what we can get for him before we just decide to keep him because we think we won't get value in return, though.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) Jayson Werth had put up 3.5 straight seasons of health and OPS's over 860, culminating in a .921 OPS the year before he hit free agency, in addition to being viewed as a plus defender. Carlos Quentin has finished 0 full seasons in his last 4. He has never played more than 131 games in a season. His average OPS over the last 4 years is .857, but over the last 3 years it's .815. ANd he's viewed as a defensive negative, even if he was our best fielder in the OF this year. If you're trading for Carlos Quentin, you're hoping for a .950 OPS and a full season. You're much more likely to get an .830 OPS and 2/3 of a season...and there's just as good of a chance of him missing most/all of the year as there is of him putting up a .900 OPS. It's like putting Jake Peavy in your rotation...you better have a backup plan. Ugh, that sounds terrible, but it's true. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:24 AM) Yep, that's a paddlin too.
  22. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) That's what happens when the Twins don't make the post season. Haha, that's actually a good one.
  23. QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 02:26 AM) As much as i'm liking this season of SOA, am I the only one having trouble with the blackmailing of Juice storyline? I mean the whole thing is built on Juice scared about the club finding out he's half black. I know at least once before they met another chapter who had a black guy in it. That plus the club has never had any major overtones of being racist. Maybe i'm missing something but I just wish this storyline would go away I've been thinking the same thing.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) I don't think it's fair to call the guy a headcase. It seemed to me he actually tries when he's on the field unlike his zombie-like teammates (there are some exceptions; Pierre, DeAza hustled a lot IMO). He hit 24 homers with 77 rbi in 118 games. Not great, but if Rios put up these numbers he'd be worshiped. Carlos had .340 OBP and .499 SLG. Compared to some guys on our team he was Albert Pujols-like. I agree we probably can't get much for our all-star but he's not a bum either. Does a player need to be a grindy little speedster for you to think he's actually trying?
