2011 ALDS Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees Thread
Milkman delivers replied to Brian's topic in The Diamond Club
I'm not sure what people have against the Tigers (except Valverde). They played the right way. They were just decent, but saw their opportunity and made some key additions to the team in-season. They're not the Twins that perennially piss on us or the Indians with their terrible fans. I have no problem whatsoever rooting for the Tigers. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) minute scratches + dvd no working = hardware Perhaps we have different definitions of minute. The scratches won't look like they were made by a knife, but there will be tons of them. I've played plenty of DVDs with minor-looking scratches like that (borrowed ones, not sure how people let that happen) that worked without a problem.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) Where does the show go at that point? The show can live for a season without Jesse. Hell, they could even continue to use him in flashbacks and dialogue that never actually took place in the other seasons in Walt's memory. The only thing we know is that Walt will survive this season finale.
-
Anyone think that Gus may kill Jesse with the intention of having Walt coming back to work for him? Just a crackpot theory that crossed my mind, but Jesse may have shown his cards in the chapel. When you look at the two of them, Jesse has much less to lose if the kid dies. He wouldn't be controllable. Walt, despite all of the s*** throughout the show, has his family to worry about. He'd be much more controllable because of the financial obligations. Gus has eyes all over the place, as we've learned, so it's not impossible for him to know that Walt is in a rough spot.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) Milk, this sounds much more like a hardware issue than a data issue. Your DVD player might be taking a s***, because it should be able to handle light scratches as described above. The DVD player is very new. I seriously doubt that it's the problem.

Let's go Tigers. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) I still say that winning percentage of Ozzie's isn't half bad for a guy learning on the job. Isn't a win percentage over .500 pretty decent for any skipper who has been in a place a while? Do you dispute the fact he is only going to get better? Why did we train him in Chicago to go kick ass the next 20 years of his career somewhere else? Now we in all likelihood bring in a rookie like Sandy/Martinez who is gonna make a big batch of mistakes as he learns how to manage. I realize we agree to disagree. But by the end of this year's playoffs you are going to likely have a new set of managing "bums" who teams want to run out of town. If the Phillies don't win this series? Look out. Manuel will be a bum. If the Rangers don't win ... ouch. Leyland has been ripped in the past for not winning with talent. The Yankees? If they lose??? Ouch again. Girardi will be blasted.

Chris Sale to be Moved to the Rotation in 2012

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) I missed this post. This is true. But it was simply another case of the half-assed way of running this organization during the KW era. Sacrificing the future for the present. We'd have a much better idea going into '12 of Sale's long-term prognostication if he had started the season at AA/AAA and gotten stretched out. Now we're hoping and praying. I'm not sure if you said this before the season, as I know that the vast majority of the posters wanted him in the bullpen. JoeCoolMan is about the only guy I can definitely remember being against it. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) 1.) To get the team ready for the season fundamental wise (yes he failed at that the past two years with our team's s***ting bunting), to make good moves during the games (I think his moves are fine, you guys disagree), to win (he has a damn good record with the Sox). 2.) What he did this year was fireable offense, the team burying itself in April/May. However, even tho he DESERVED to be fired, I think his track record with the Sox earned him a shot to win the battle over KW and see if we could return to greatness under Oz under a new GM. I look at the big picture, which you guys get on me for. Big pix: He already won one WS in Chicago. He's very young. He learned on the job in Chicago (just wait for Alomar/Martinez growing pains, they will be there) and I hate to see Ozzie part II do great things for another franchise. I am convinced he will be one of the greats and I HATE seeing him do it for another team when he learned on the job here in chicago. Greatness? Pfft, when was this team ever great besides 2005 and maybe 2006? And to insinuate that you look at the big picture while the rest of the board does not is simply laughable.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) I think I am going to streaming only for Netflix than just Redbox if I want anything new. Streaming has such a limited catalog. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) i dont know about the quality of the discs, but the catalog is bigger That's good to know.

Terra Nova is alright, but I don't like TV shows that use a lot of effects that also don't have the money to do it well. Fake CGI is one of the worst things in entertainment. I don't see this show making it past 3 seasons, tops. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) Last night was cheesy? I didn't see it, but the entire series is extremely cheesy. Yeah, it is. Like SOA, everything seems to wrap up in a neat little package. The ending of season 4 being the only real exception I can recall.

REALLY getting tired of Netflix recently. It seems that every other DVD I get is scratched so minutely that it hardly even shows, but prevents the movie from playing. The worst part is that it always happens closer to the end of the movie, so I have to wait an extra couple of days just to finish it and further delay my next DVD. Is Blockbuster any better? I'm completely serious about changing this. I can't even stand it anymore.

QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) You'd have to exclude 2005 though because that would obviously be #1... I'd be curious what the top spot would be if you couldn't pick the White Sox (yes, I know I could just use #2, but I don't want to) 2001 Diamondbacks for me, hands down.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) Yeah, I want to see it explained a bit before I freak out. This show has earned it creative space for sure. Exactly. In the moment, I was thinking how stupid it was. But after a second, I figured that they had to have something to explain it eventually.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) I was sort of hoping that guy would become a reoccurring character but he's probably dead or close to it. I don't think he'd be in that bad of shape. He was likely just a plot device to illustrate Chalky's power in the black community. I guess I can see him returning in some attempt at revenge, but likely not. They sure slit a lot of throats on this show, though.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:23 AM) That was pretty awesome. It was great how he just started talking to all of the other cellmates about their families while never taking his eyes off of the douchebag guy, calling on them all to kick his ass without even having to say it.

QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 02:33 AM) I think brock was poisoned with a lesser poison by walt to make gus look guilty. It seems too easy for Gus to have done it with the ricin. If your theory isn't correct, I think Gus is also smart enough to not kill the child. Killing him would greatly increase the chances that Jesse does something really stupid, so he might have still poisoned him, but with a lesser poison as you said with Walt. And yes, it was a little odd that Gus somehow sensed that there was a problem. It's probably the biggest stretch the show has ever taken, but I would expect them to clear it up next week. If not, I guess I can buy that Gus felt something off with his conversation with Jesse. The guy has already proven himself to be a criminal mastermind. There has to be something to it.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) So Aaron Paul should probably win the Emmy next year again. Crazy good cliffhanger. But I don't think he'd be eligible for next year's emmy's with this season. I believe next season would have to be out in time for the awards, as they weren't this year.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) You are confusing me not knowing who the hell Dave Martinez is with me thinking that hiring a bench coach is a bad idea. I was just curious as to who he is, not questioning him being a future manager. My bad, then. It looked to me like you were questioning him being a manager because all he's been is a bench coach. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Kinda hard for Pena to be a surprise candidate when Rosenthal already reported the Sox's interest in him and Fisk would be a disaster; the last thing this team needs is a grump old man with ZERO experience running the show. I would be so disappointed with Tony Peña. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) Ok, so then they clearly linked to the wrong person..... http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=martin010dav But that still doesn't tell me why he is so qualified to be our manager. Do people just hope because he is Maddon's bench coach that he will have learned how to manage?? Do you pay attention to baseball? Bench coaches are made managers regularly. What would make anyone qualified to be a manager? Having already been a manager? Why did the Rays even hire Maddon? He learned from Scioscia. That's why. And Martinez has learned from him. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) I want Carlton Fisk! Tough and knowledgable about the game since the catcher directs it and he knows pitchers Ugh, Fisk has no qualifications whatsoever, but people will be all over it because it's Fisk. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) Until the ending. That really sucked Are you kidding? It was one of the most mind-blowing final scenes I can remember.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) I just now looked at the 40 man roster, and, yes, both new players are on it. Who got bumped off? I remember when Lou Piniella went from Seattle Manager to Tampa Bay, the Mariners got a quality ML player -- can't think if his name. Does anybody on the board know his name? Randy Winn.
