  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) Williams World Series Titles with Guillen: 1 Williams World Series titles with out Guillen: 0 Just sayin' Milkman. So Williams has a world title and a higher winning percentage. Guillen has a world title and a lower winning percentage. Do.Not.Follow.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) The only way to get Rios to play hard is with money. If it's a contract year, look for him to perk up. I didn't realize that 2010 was a contract year.
  3. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) Son of a b****... you could've atleast used a emoticon so it didn't look like you just b**** slapped me. Jackass. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) The f***? Is Ozzie going to come kill him or something? Ahahahaha. Also, yeah, Swisher was not acquired as a CF. Opening Day CF was Alexei. I better watch out. I guess it doesn't show us that Ozzie actually lowered KW's winning percentage.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) As much as you hate me, this is why I hate your posts sometimes. That's just insane reasoning. The manager has to try to get something out of a bum like Rios? History of sports on all levels show that a turd is a turd. Polish it all you want it's a turd. You hate Ozzie, fine. But to put Rios on Ozzie is unfair and in my opinion, totally unfounded. What's Oz supposed to do to fire him up? Put $10,000 in his locker and say he can keep it if he hits .280 and actually hustles? You get on me for not posting stats or things to back up my arguments that are based on theory. This theory of yours blaming Ozzie for Rios is so off base. Do you stand by this post of yours?? Good luck to the next manager in "getting the most" out of Rios. It's a miracle a manager can get Rios to show up to the park every day. Oh wait ... Rios wouldn't get paid if he didn't show up and might get suspended which would affect his pocketbook. So he shows up. Rios had a good season in 2010. I don't know how Ozzie's supposed to get him to play harder. I'm not a manager. But I do know that it's his f***ing job to get his players to play hard. If they don't, it's on the manager and he will be let go.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) Oof. Rios is 100% on Kenny. That claim was a big f***ing mistake. He had a good season last year. The talent is there. The guy just didn't give a rat's ass this year, and it's on the manager to get the most out of him.
  6. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) Off topic but if you round the winning percentage, it's the same. Just thought I'd give the Ozzie lovers some more ammunition. They use three digits when calculating that.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) So wait, are you actually banking on Dunn retiring? Not a chance on earth that happens I think he might if he's anything close to this bad again next year. It'd probably take the entirety of the 2012 season, but I can see it happening.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) pffft, next thing you know you will be telling me to stop using my Eudora email I don't even know what that is I still use Firefox, though. I know Chrome is supposed to be better, but I'm used to it and it doesn't seem to be outdated.
  9. I'd put them in order 1-8, but I guess that doesn't make sense given the match-ups. I'll start off by saying that I definitely want a team to win it all that's never won it before, but I have sort of grown to dislike the Brewers at the same time. They have a few players that rub me the wrong way. I hope the Tigers beat the Yankees. Rays beat the Rangers (I don't dislike the Rangers and wouldn't mind them winning it all, but I can't not root for the rays now) Cardinals over Phillies Brewers over Diamondbacks (wouldn't mind the other way either, though) Rays over Tigers Brewers/Diamondbacks over Cardinals Rays over whomever
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 07:07 AM) I've been fighting a nasty cold, so I went to bed pretty early last night, when the Rays were still down 7-0 and the Red Sox up 3-2. I was thinking, "Well, maybe the O's can pull it out and there can be a game tomorrow." Per my usual routine, I turn on Mike&Mike in the Morning on ESPN2 while getting ready this morning, and at the exact moment the TV comes on, the scroll on the bottom of the screen tells me that the Rays have won the Wild Card. I was pretty groggy, and it took a minute for my brain to compute that given how things stood when I went to bed. Same here. I thought that was the only chance.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 12:59 AM) Colin Cowherd mentioned something last week about how Boston watches fewer National sports than any other market in the country. They are absolutely obsessed with their own teams, but hardly watch other teams when they are on National broadcasts. They just don't give a s*** about anything other than themselves. That sounds about right
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 08:29 AM) You are correct. I thought you were wrong on the 4 year deal and that's what the Marlins gave him. Congrats. Indeed, he was correct about the 4-year deal. I must admit, though, that I never really gave it much thought. They could have given him a 1-year deal or 10, we all knew he was going to Miami. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) So the fact that he said he doesn't care about the World Series rings because they're not money and they're not important to him didn't bother you. He said that with a serious face. Or how about with ESPN in his face, in a serious manner saying he lost the passion for awhile? None of that bothered you at all? Or how about when in his into press conference here, he talked about this being the last jersey he ever wanted to put on, but then in his Marlins press conference saying he was plotting for a few years to get to Miami? I must say, if that's the case, it seems to me that you're a fan of the name on the back of the jersey, and not the front. Ironic considering Ozzie wants you to be the exact opposite. Well put. Pretty much what anyone needs to know.
  13. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 08:39 AM) When did Francona become Tito? I can't put an exact date on it, but years.
  14. QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:10 AM) Its just funny that the Red Sox won a world series and have 1 playoff appearance and a huge September fade since and that's pretty much what we've seen here recently.. and now people want that manager I also don't want Francona. Perhaps not for the exact reasons that you don't him, but I don't either.
  15. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 08:28 AM) Carlos Quentin: Yea, Greg Walker sucked. Good thing he's gone. Guy was awful at what he did. He should pick up another day job. Any day job other than hitting coach, because he's the exact opposite of good there. Worthless bum. ^^Does anyone really expect any player or coach to say that about the departing coach? No, because the next guy is going to be feared that he will be thrown under the bus. Numbers don't lie. AJ was a great hitting catcher(for average) before he got to the White Sox. Under Walker, he turned worse minus power. Fact is, no one is going to poop on Greg. Exactly. And I'll buy that Walker wasn't as bad as we portray him, but the guy did not get his job done. It's not entirely his fault, but he shares the blame, and his job dictates that he take the fall for it.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) Seriously, that is a laughable scenario versus just taking everyone at their word. Anything to put Ozzie in a more positive light...
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 06:00 AM) BTW Hawkaroo, every team doesn't win 60 games, the Astros say hey! And the Phillies apparently won every one of their magical 42 games.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) The only bad thing that will come of this is that it will give people even more hope to come back from a big deficit late. Oh God, I hadn't even considered that.
  19. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 12:06 AM) There was a particularly annoying bosox fan in right field at camden yards tonight that made it hard for me to relate. He was laughing and clapping loudly, egging on orioles fans for seeming no reason. This was just before the bottom of the 9th inning. Bosox fans have an insulting sense of entitlement that rivals no one, considering what their team has done. I am quit happy to see them lose tonight. Yup.
  20. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:59 PM) I've never believed I deserve anything when it comes to baseball or anything else in life for that matter. I can either support the team I love or not. As far as deserving something for making that choice? Stupid. But that's how the average Boston fan thinks. They truly believe that they are more deserving of championships than other teams.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) Manager: Dave Martinez Bench Coach: Sandy Alomar Jr. 1st Base: Harold Baines 3rd Base: Frank Thomas/Robin Ventura (either one works) Pitching Coach: Don Cooper Hitting Coach: Tim Laker I know this is just want you want, but Alomar has no reason to come here to be the bench coach when he already has that job locked up in Cleveland.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:53 PM) I expect Milk to link the thread of dodged questions. Hm? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...3338&st=465
  23. Ugh, this is why people hate the Red Sox.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:47 PM) I think 8 And the other historic one was also 8, right? Was it the Mets or Phillies, one choking it away to the other?
  25. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) Buster Olney In the span of about 20 minutes, we saw the two worst September collapses in baseball history. 32 minutes ago What a night of baseball. What was the Braves' lead?
