  1. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) It really hasn't been a piss-poor year, though. It was a piss-poor 22 game stretch, and then a slightly-better-than-mediocre 3+ months after that (89 win pace over the last 80 games). For a team that had the expectations the Sox did before the season, that's still pretty piss-poor.
  2. My God, it's amazing how gullible some people are.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) I guess I'd have to go with the standard "pretty good but not great" comment on Planet of the Apes. They spent a long time in the lab and building the relationship between Caesar and Franco. Not sure if the payoff in the end was worth it...felt like it was bridging to a sequel too much, maybe not. Frieda Pinto is super super hot, but she was terribly underutilized as "eye candy" and the romance between the two of them seemed like a total afterthought. No chemistry at all between them. By the way, is there a rule that Olivia Wilde now be in every movie? Sheez. Or Emma Stone? And that "In Time" movie with Timberlake does look like it has the potential to be decent...I'm still at a total loss on whether Amanda Seyfried (also in In Time with Wilde) is hot or not. She has the curves going, but I'm undecided. She's like a lesser version of Scarlett Johansson before she started to get a bit annoying. The Losers with Saldana, Chris Evans and Jason Patrick, not a bad little action flick at all. Can't wait for COLOMBIANA. Basically, this movie's a better version of The Expendables with 1/10th the budget. Next movies are Hesher, Midnight in Paris and The Beaver (Mel Gibson/Jodie Foster) It's like you're complaining that ROTPOTA was EXACTLY what it was supposed to be.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) Lolla anyone? I went yesterday (not going today) and was surprised at how much I enjoyed some of the earlier bands. Delta Spirit was cool and The Kills were pretty awesome as well. Coldplay did their thing on the headlining spot, though I wish I could have seen Muse as well. Sunday is Foo Fighters day so that will be epic. I will NEVER go to Lollapalooza after they screwed me last year with the Beastie Boys. Their "equally big" replacement was the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and they would not offer a refund.
  5. Two dozen? Sounds like a serious mission was going on. Tragic though.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 05:20 PM) I know it sounds completely unfounded and flies in the face of all evidence to the contrary, but I still think we're going to win this division and go deep in the playoffs. Lol ok.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Is there any other manager in baseball who routinely calls the fans idiots? I've asked this several times. The answer is no.
  8. Gotcha. I thought I was just missing the joke or references.
  9. QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) And who's to say that replacement player doesn't win us a couple games during that period when Juan was horrible? Waiting for him to not suck may have been a net loss. It doesn't work like that. There is no way that Pierre comes out of that funk without CONSTANT at-bats. Anything to make it seem like less of Ozzie's fault. I don't know how to make it green on my phone.
  10. Not to be a dick, but I don't see how this was funny. The whole time I was just thinking, "what the f*** is this?"
  11. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes was pretty damn good. It was almost exactly the opposite of what SS2k5 thought it would be.
  12. Add The Colbert Report to the people mocking Dunn. I had the volume turned down though, so I didn't hear the joke.
  13. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) I give him credit, then. I don't believe many within the media feel the need to held accountable. And let's face it, we're a small minority of his readership; he could have easily brushed us off. Agreed.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) Well, only reason that game went to extras was the dumb decision to let Hermanson pitch in the 8th inning. That was my only gripe with Ozzie during the entire postseason. And the El Duque thing only happened because Marte was brought in at the wrong time, and even if you argue that point, he was allowed to pitch far too long that inning when it was apparent that he needed to go. But of course Ozzie has his fair share of responsibility for the championship.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) lol Such a joke, my first posts in this thread were about slander/libel. My horrible post that got the response (no one could read it that way was this) And I didnt read 6 pages of posts. I read the article, thought people were overreacting on the libel/slander thing, then said in my opinion the article wasnt as horrible as some people thought. As I said before, dissent is not very welcome. And people remember dissenters, which is why event though Im probably in the majority 50% of the time, its the other 50% thats remembered. Because many do not like those in the minority who dare express their views. I often wonder how many people with different views just dont even bother to post because they dont want to deal with the mob. Exactly, because we're all bigots who hate Mexicans like Ozzie Guillen.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) I can only go by what the article says on ESPN. If it was originally 1 sentence then the author messed up. I did read the first post in the thread, but because it did not match the article as posted on ESPN, I wasn't sure if the poster formatted it correctly. I never rely on a quote in a thread from an article because of people parsing, taking things out of context, so I went straight to the source. There is no way you ready the entirety of the thread before posting that, though. You would've seen that it mentioned that he edited it, and I'm fairly certain the paragraph was posted a couple of times. You jumped in to take the opposing position of the vast majority, which is usually what you do.
  17. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) To be honest, all this vitroil against Ozzie does kinda sadden me, I mean, how proud were we after 2005 and it has come down to this? I was an ardent Ozzie supporter because he pushed all the right buttons that magical year and ended a nearly century old age of futility, you just don't luck yourself to a WS title, granted, things have to go your way but as a manager, you still have to make the right decisions.Marlins manager McKeon said a manager doesn't become dumb, so wtf is up with OG and those boneheaded decisions he's made recently?Does he want to get fired?Maybe he doesn't care anymore?I really don't know but damn, nearly everyone here at ST wants him gone and deservedly so, I'm just amazed at how we got from 2005 Ozzie to this. Ozzie actually made plenty of mistakes in 2005. I recall many times thinking that a game was won in spite of him. The one spot that jumps out at me was the bullpen. He'd continually run the wrong guys out there at the wrong time (Shingo, Vizcaino, and especially Marte), but the other guys in the bullpen were just so damn good (Politte, Cotts, and Jenks) or lucky (Hermanson) that they almost always cleaned up the mess when needed.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) I LOVE Jon Greenburg's tag. I wonder if I bump into him at Bears camp if that counts? But Badger, it was initially one paragraph. It's broken up now. If you bothered to read the first post in the thread, it read like this: It reads very different now that Greenburg has edited it, which is much appreciated. I believe we've sunk his battleship.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) First of all your sentence is patently false, both the author and myself dont comprehend the paragraphs (its not a sentence) the way that you do. So either a) the author doesnt know what hes writing and I don't know what Im reading or b) you are reading it incorrectly. Im going to go with B. I tried to be kind with how I wrote my first comment, to show that different people can read the same thing and have different interpretations. Lets look at the staement: You'll note that the author broke it into 2 paragraphs. As Im sure you are aware, this indicates a break in thought, and youll notice that the paragraphs do indeed have 2 different thoughts. Paragraph 1, quote 1 is referring to Soxtalk and how sometimes you "have to have tough skin not to reply". He then moves onto a second paragraph, which indicates shift in thought. Youll notice that in the first paragraph references the specific, the second paragraph is general. Notice, "it gets kind of scare sometimes with the stuff people write", does not say "on the website" or make any reference to Soxtalk. Why? Because it clearly was referencing things that were said in general, not things that were specifically said on the site. It implied it TO YOU. It did not imply it to me. At worst it implied to me that people on this site say negative remarks about Ozzie that may go over the line. I read nonsense negative comments on this site every day about managers, players, etc. I guess Im not so bold as to say that there is not 1 member on this site, who hasnt said one of those things, thought one of those things, sent an email with one of those things. I always forget that mob rules on this site and any voice of dissent is met with comments that attack the poster, instead of actually discussing the subject. It looks to me that the writer edited the piece to separate one paragraph into two. Look at the opening post.
  20. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) I agree that we get that here from time to time but the hyperbole Junior threw out in that article makes a giant jump from subtle racism to "go home Mexican!" I know Junior is respected to a decent level here but this reeks of the Guillen family using their media access to deliberately attempt to discredit a site that has now become fairly unanimous in its anti-Oney stance and pretty lopsided in its calls for the end of the Ozzie era. I am not sure he was making a mistake in calling out SoxTalk versus some other forum. The more people talk, the more I'm inclined to believe this. Remember, Soxtalk is the main force behind the Oney/Teahen "dispute" lingering. Calling us racists and potential murderers is a good way to discredit us.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) I want to point out in no way does Soxtalk speak on that behalf. We allow posters to speak there minds but there has always been a line drawn in the sand and our posters 99.9% of the time respect that. If people want to email Mr. Greenberg, you can do so. But if you do, be respectful and civil. I personally just reached out to him. As the owner of this site I can flat out say if I saw that sort of post or comment, the post would have been removed and the member suspended or banned. I would very much like to know how he responds to your email.
  22. "I don't see the problem." My ass. The paragraph reads as though he's mentioning Soxtalk as the place in which these statements were made. He's a journalist, so don't try to BS us that he didn't understand that.
  23. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) Re: death threats. Well, there is Milkman's sig. That's been there for about 3 days. And anyone who takes that as a death threat is a complete and utter moron. I guess that a Guillen family member might, then.
  24. Since we have an email, should we all respond to it? Perhaps one well-written letter forwarded from 100 different email addresses?
