  1. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) Perhaps all those proposed moves (specifically Williams and Guillen) are inevitable at the end of this season, but I'd rather not take a chance. If their future is tied to the success of this current team, I am rooting for failure. Unlike 2007 when I was rooting for failure for the opportunity to draft higher, our current failures this year will do more for shaping our future than any potential 1st round bust. I'd rather take the chance of an abysmal second half leading to the firing of Williams and Guillen than the chance this team pulls together a miracle, makes the playoffs, and wins the World Series. Don't need anything, even our own success (however slim) prolonging the careers of those two with this organization. I love seeing so many people FINALLY echoing the things I've been saying for a while. I know we've agreed for a while, but it's just about the same thing I've said over the last two months. Crawling backwards into the playoffs to be humiliated would be the worst thing for this team. I also said that playing decently well before the deadline would be bad because they'd decide to stick with this team, and that they would likely do exactly that because it'd be the worst possibility at the time. Then, of course, they did. Thus, I expect them to somehow make the playoffs, haha.
  2. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) It's just BigSqwert using another opportunity to insult a member of this forum. The "insult" is an opinion held by probably 99% of the posters on the site. I'd say much worse about that poster if I could do it without being suspended or banned. I plead with every poster to PLEASE just ignore him.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) It looks like someone is entering a common room/cafeteria and falling to their knees. It reminds me of the original scene when the alien burst out of John Hurts chest I was thinking some form of deformity. But you're probably right.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) Skylar's character is by far the worst. She's the Kate from Lost. Zero redeeming qualities. My wife and I were basically screaming at the TV last night as she started to give Walt s*** for the black eye and for not returning her phone calls. Like, f*** you, you ran out on him. I dunno why Walt is even dealing with her. I guess he has to in order to keep his cover. She reminds me a lot of Carmela from the Sopranos. And strangely enough, I considered Carmela the worst person on that show. Basically everybody on that show was bad, but most were honest with themselves. Carmela always tried to pretend that she was better than the lifestyle of her husband, but she was often an enabler and never hesitated to take his money. She flaunted her wealth at others and got upset when someone was more successful than her (anyone remember when she couldn't stand that p****'s wife made herself a nice little fortune on her own after her husband died?). She used her husband's clout to get her way on several occasions, often making very veiled threats to people (the letter of recommendation from the neighbor's sister). And the worst thing she did was basically get Vito killed, as she knew the consequences of telling Tony. When Meadow told her about it, saying that she didn't want to tell her dad, the very first thing she does when Tony enters the room is to force Meadow to tell him. Being the wife of a mob boss for so long, there is absolutely no way she didn't understand that she was murdering Vito. Tangent over.
  5. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 08:01 AM) The show never disappoints. I love how Skylar has not only accepted Walt's lifestyle but has dove right in. Jesse's spiraling out of control pretty quick. I guess when you kill a guy then watch another guy get his throat cut right in front of you, you might have a tendency to lose your s***. Definitely a darker season so far. I don't think the throat slitting did much to him. As I recall, he seemed to not be nearly as shaken by it as Walt was. As was already said, though, his storyline isn't really drawing me in that much.
  6. QUOTE (OilCan @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) see it while you can...first prometheus shots @ comic con. http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/arc...n_footage_leak/ Does anyone have any idea what is going on in that third picture (the second one in the large grouping)?
  7. QUOTE (shakes @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) I really appreciate what Ozzie/Kenny have brought to this organization. What I am speaking to is the past. The 2005 season was my favorite time as a sports fan. Luckily, I spent a lot of it first hand, at the games. I will always be grateful. With that said, they are an absolute embarrassment. I can't see anyone wanting to play for these guys, under these circumstances. Ozzie always hides under the guise of family. Now, one of his former players, who albeit underperformed, is under attack about his family, and for cosmetic reasons. Which is the most juvenile attack that can happen. If you are all about family, shouldn't that ground be sacred? His family has taken it too far, and no matter if he said it or not it, is a reflection on him. Players can't possibly feel good about this situation. How could any player trust leaving here? Why would you come here under this management? That is a question JR needs to start thinking about. I split season tickets for years, and gave them up in 2008 for financial and family responsibilities. 2011 will be the first time since 1985 that I will not attend a Sox game. It doesn't have to do with finances as much as an unlikable team, and for the first time I am ashamed of this organization. My parents took me to my first Sox game, and until I have something positive to say about the Sox, I will not take a young kid, because a positive experience can make you a lifelong fan, like it did for me. Currently, there is not a whole lot of positive to talk about. All around great post.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) This feels completely legit. Nobody has the time to write a disengenuous post of that length... Mark Teahen has struggled to fulfill the expectations placed on him in Oakland and then with the Royals....no doubt. He had one really great 3-4 month stretch when I lived in Kansas City where I (and the entire city) thought he was going to just take off and be close to an All-Star caliber player at a position once occupied by George Brett (lots of pressure!). It just hasn't happened. With all that said, from listening to Mark dealing with the media in Kansas City, he was always one of the best personalities on that team. KC is a great place to live and raise a family, and Mark's sense of humor worked perfectly in a market where people needed to have a sense of humor about an abysmal, but once proud franchise. He was always a breath of fresh air in a sea of Zack Greinke's to me. From reading in the past couple of days, I've been even more impressed by a lot of the off-field/charitable work he has been involved with. When your husband has the salary he does, it makes it possible to do a world of good, and I'm sure that makes you feel grateful....to be in that position to help so many others, especially kids who just glow at the chance to meet any major league player (like Make A Wish Foundation). You are better than any member of the Guillen family. It's incredibly unfortunate that you were bothered to the degree that you felt you had to respond. It's sad that many more posts the last 2-3 days have been devoted to childish sniping back and forth on the internet INSTEAD OF what looked like when the season began to be one of the most important series of the season, with the Red Sox/Yankees at USCF. You have no reason to apologize for your appearance or height or skin complexion. I'm sure Mark loves you for all the right reasons, and nothing a little punk like Oney Guillen can ever say should cause you to question yourself like that (assuming it really is you). It was a classy move to at least try to clarify your own side (and Mark's) of the whole situation, but it's really none of our business. But that's the nature of the media/social network world we live in today that these things end up happening over and over again with an organization I was once proud to support. There are many many great White Sox fans out there (you would have seen that if you were in Chicago in 2005-2006), and don't let the pathetic acts of an immature, spoiled brat who's never been held accountable by anyone with the Sox to throw you off your game. All of this. Plus I'd like to add a few more key notes. 1.) NOBODY has taken Oney's side. He is pretty much universally despised, whereas Teahen enjoys a great reputation as a kind and funny human being. 2.) Mrs. Teahen (I truly hope it's actually her to further solidify the Teahen family's classy reputation) referred to this as a non-story. That simply isn't the case. It's a story that is due to the repeated childish antics of Oney. 3.) Whether or not Mark was referring to Oney, and I'll believe that he wasn't, the statement was a PERFECT description of the situation of Ozzie and Oney. The funny part is that it was so accurate that Oney himself believed it to about him 4.) For what it's worth, the pictures I've seen show you to be a very attractive woman.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) Said rookie better not miss otherwise he'll never pitch for the Sox again. I definitely thought Tracey had what it takes to be at least a decent reliever, but I must have been wrong seeing as he's never made it with anyone.
  10. JUST IGNORE HIM AND YOU WON'T HAVE TO ARGUE WITH HIS TERRIBLE AND MORONIC "LOGIC"!
  11. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) So a spaceship that was able to travel across galaxies and suddenly runs out of fuel at Earth is as valid as sending a land rover to the planet next door to us and having it break.... I didn't say it was "as valid", just that it can be valid. And the gas thing was just one of possibly thousands of reasons, including your idea of the Martian rover just breaking down.
  12. If the viewpoint of the average fan is anything like it is on Soxtalk, there will be big changes this offseason. If not, and I don't think JR is that stupid, next season will see the lowest attendance in probably my entire lifetime. I'm not sure if the average fan is as livid as us, but I think they are thoroughly uninterested in the team.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) Most importantly he doesn't seem to be want to be the news. I know the kid has gotten a lot of where he is at by being Ozzie's son, but he hasn't taken it and abused it. I agree. Haha, at first I thought you were talking about Oney because I didn't pay attention to which thread I was in. I was about to lose it.
  14. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 11:57 AM) An alien race would live so much farther than Mars that comparison has no merit what so ever. I think the comparison is valid. We have no idea of the technology of an alien race, the same as a hypothetical Martian race that has no idea about our technology. Perhaps this race sent out a probe of their own that took hundreds of years to arrive on Earth and it eventually lost control or ran out of fuel or was caught in a storm, etc. To say that anything has no merit whatsoever in a completely hypothetical situation about an alien race that may or may not even exist is sort of weird.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) Potter. Oh, I didn't see that one in 3D.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) No Breaking Bad thoughts yet? Skylar is awesomely evil, and I can't wait to see how Jesse spirals out. You can just see how much colder and calculating Walt is now. When they were discussing hurting the car wash owner and Skylar was against it, you could tell that that was the only thing going through Walt's mind even though he said he agreed with her.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) especially in the flight scenes and the fight at the end, I thought it really added to the effect. Are you referring to Avatar or Transformers? I think you mean Avatar, and I agree. With Transformers, I only noticed anything special when they did the skydiving scene. Kyyle, I didn't get that "window" feeling with Transformers, although I did with Avatar.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) I've met Jr, and have no problems with him. He seems like he wants to do his own thing. There was an article the other day about him. It talked about how he's the quiet one. Despite being an announcer for the team, you hear by far the least from him. It painted a very nice picture of him. I forget if someone posted it here or if I found it by accident on Google.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) At this point, I can only guess Ozzie sits back and allows Oney to be his personal mouthpiece. At first, I believed Oney was just an out of control kid with no respect for any authority whatsoever, but it's pretty clear that Ozzie is just allowing him to say whatever he please with absolutely no repercussions whatsoever. An absolute clear sign that he is an immature, short-sighted, foolish man that should no longer be allowed to manage this ballclub any longer. The fact that many of you are lumping our General Manager into his category is incredulous to me. While I agree with you that Ozzie is in a different category, KW is fairly immature himself. And I do agree that Oney is Ozzie's mouthpiece. It gives him a chance to speak his mind on anyone and anything with seemingly no repercussions.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) How do his apologists defend him in this situation? This really comes down to Ozzie and KW trying to save his job by making the other out to look like the bad guy. I'm fairly certain that they both know this team is going nowhere, and whether it be for money or more likely just to save their massive egos, each wants to outlast the other. We've already seen it with Viciedo. KW tried to paint the picture that he would like to call Viciedo up, but Ozzie wouldn't play him if he did. Ozzie came out with the retort that he would play Viciedo if he were on the team. In this situation, I'm sure we all know that Viciedo would have ridden the bench. Now we're seeing them argue over the situation with Rios and Dunn. KW says that the best player should be starting no matter the salary. Ozzie continues to force both of them into the starting lineup 9 out of 10 times because, and he's correct in this assumption, some people will say "What choice does he have? He has to play the guys the GM gave him." We have two children at the helm of this franchise. And their daddy is too much of a p**** to spank either of them.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) As harsh as it sounds there is some truth to it. I don't think he even finished high school. I don't think he finished grade school. I'm serious.
  22. The Bucktown Hillbillies? We need someone to photoshop that.
  23. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) I am trying to figure out how the USS Defiant crashed in the Baltic. I thought you were adding another cool note to the story, and then I googled it
  24. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) If an alien race has the technology to travel here from however many light years away, I fail to see how they'd manage to crash on our planet. Haven't we lost rovers on Mars? I mean, if there were a race on Mars and they found one of those rovers, couldn't they say basically the same thing you said? I doubt that thing leads anywhere. It's probably a strange rock formation or some crap because it's never anything fun, but it would be so cool if it were a UFO. I think it was about a year ago when they thought they found a monolith on Mars, but it was debunked as just an odd shadow.
