  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) So what if a player rips a foul ball into the right field stands and the ball hits a fan in the eye and kills him/her? Is he responsible? Hey, if Josh wants to give the kid a million bucks, good for him. All I'm saying is he doesn't owe the kid anything. Yes, the player would be responsible. Not responsible in the sense that they would be legally obligated to do anything about it, but they physically sent that ball at the person's head. This is not obtuse in any way, and I know you understand what I'm saying. The person who does it (the hitter in your hypothetical situation and Hamilton in reality) has no legal obligation to do anything, but any human being with emotions should want to help out and do whatever is in their power to ease the suffering. A person of Hamilton's wealth and resources can easily do this by, as others have stated, having his foundation set aside money for college and/or a trust fund. If it were a career minor leaguer with little money, he could simply attempt to be a friend to the child by remaining in contact with him over the years, perhaps getting tickets to a few games a season, visiting the clubhouse, etc.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 10:09 AM) I flat out do not believe you. You are lying both to me and to yourself. You're being annoyingly pigheaded. I have been to literally hundreds of games in my life and I have never, not even for a second as a joke, leaned over a railing. I'm not scared of heights (well I am, but the normal kind of rational fear), but I know that leaning over absolutely can result in falling.
  3. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) Here's another one, foul mouthed people at the ball game. There's kids sitting right next to you!! I'm guilty of this. It's not intentional, cursing is just such a big part of my vocabulary that I don't even think about it.
  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) For those that 1) want Ozzie fired before the season ends 2) think there's a very slim or no chance to win this year anyway what is the point of firing Ozzie now, rather than waiting until after the season? if Jerry/Kenny know they are firing him, they are already looking. Joey Cora or Harold Baines running this team helps no one and doesn't accomplish anything. I think there is still a 10% chance this team has a run in them with Ozzie, but a 0% chance if you fire Ozzie. On top of what Sqwert said, I also want to see it happen for selfish reasons. It'll show accountability, but I admit that I'd cherish the opportunity to see that smug cocksucker get canned in the middle of the season. We can probably all agree that it's a little more embarrassing to be fired in the middle of the season rather than the end. And who knows, maybe the Sox go on a run under Cora and it propels them to the playoffs and garners him more attention as a manager elsewhere. It's pretty simplistic to say it helps no one to fire Ozzie.
  5. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) Until the last five days, I thought there would be something would click at some point, but now I think it's very likely that they will play horribly post-break, get to 10 under, and then win 28 of their last 45 to make it look "respectable". That's what they do.
  6. For some reason, this has me singing Cher in my head.
  7. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 12:09 AM) Sox go 25-45 and finish 69-93 Ozzie is given an extension.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) Not a f***ing thing will happen. And its sad. Exactly. Look at the results of this poll. Basically the entire fanbase has no faith in this organization to do the right thing, and that is pathetic. The vast majority of fans are starting to become alienated. This is a very bad thing.
  9. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 11:25 PM) Hopefully talking to Jerry about his contract! Where is that from?
  10. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) You, of course, are unquestionably correct, but I'm afraid the White Sox have been pulling the same crap for years. A while back, I went to a concession stand to purchase a "Beltin' Bill Melton Bratwurst." After paying my money, all I received was a German sausage covered with sauerkraut, instead of, you know, Bill Melton's actual penis. Talk about a bait and switch. This is one of the funniest things I've ever read on Soxtalk. Bravo, man.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) This is just crazy, as I said in the game thread, we treated Peavy like Terry Mulholland his rubber arm used to be treated. Just put his ass on the DL, it's not like he's been effective anyways. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6203656.story That's a name I haven't heard in a coon's age.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) Nothing will happen. Its just the way of this organization. I agree wholeheartedly, unfortunately.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Then I guess we just disagree. Josh can feel guilty, therefore in his mind he has to "make it up" to the kid even though he did absolutely nothing wrong. But I wouldn't look at Josh any differently if he simply bought the kid and his family some free tickets to a dozen games or so and that was it. Josh has his own family and his own life. He doesn't have to support a kid because a tragedy happened through no fault of his own. As stupid as it sounds, it was indeed through some fault of his. If I toss a ball to a guy who's standing on a corner and it's slightly low and he reaches for it, causing him to stumble into the path of a truck, I initiated the sequence. I didn't mean to do it, but I caused it. I absolutely think Hamilton should step in and help this kid. He's not legally obligated to do so, but he should want to do so as a human.
  14. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Than it should have been called the 13 plan....but it wasn't. You can't sell one thing and deliver another. Just as McDonald's can't sell you a chicken sandwich and than give you a bun with a hamburger in the middle.....the White Sox can't sell you an Ozzie plan and than deliver Gene Lamont. Hahaha, wow.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) I'll gladly eat crow, but I don't think Reinsdorf would do anything with Kenny or Ozzie until the season is over. Ozzie isn't going anywhere now unless there's something behind the scenes that isn't out that cannot be reconciled. With Ozzie and his sons, nothing would be "behind the scenes".
  16. Ozzie being fired would be the most exciting Sox thing for me since the WS. No exaggeration.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) I do know Gammons said a couple of months ago the Sox had some interest in Ken Macha. I don't know if that was as a possible manager or minor league guy or what. I think ultimately, even the people like me who think Ozzie's time is up are going to be dissappointed with the replacement. Oh, I'm sure. I have no confidence in this franchise to make a good decision/hire.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) FWIW, Peter Gammons was on a Boston radio show this morning and said he expects Ozzie to be fired during the ASB. He said he may be managing the Marlins in a week and also mentioned KW knows his ass is on the line as well. !
  19. I think you can leave any time, you just have to wait for a break in the action to return to your seat.
  20. What is all of debating about? Someone just post the record against our main conpetition, the Twins, over the last few years. That should be enough for anyone.
  21. It's hard to root for this franchise with the way they are handling this situation, among many other things.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 12:25 AM) Hamilton can now add manslaughter to his terrific resume I feel bad about it, but you made me laugh.
  23. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 04:30 AM) AJ is an asshole and his teammates hate him. ^^ SoxTalk about 2 weeks ago. Soxtalk hyperbole at its finest. Some people were saying that while the majority disagreed.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) He's awful with the media. Can't see him ever managing as that's part of the gig. I'd be ok with Cooper leaving for the Yankees or another team if it meant the Kenny/Ozzie/Cora/Walker thing would get blown up. I'm thoroughly disgusted with this whole organization. It's like we're forced to pretend nothing is wrong because there's a chance we'll win this pathetic division. But can anyone honestly say they enjoy watching this club on a day-to-day basis win or lose? The brand of baseball, the Ozzie/Kenny thing, the marketing of the team, Hawk, ...all of it. It's just garbage everywhere you look. Oh yes. Yes, yes, yes.
