QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) You do that. And I'll take the same sports discussion I have had with all kinds of their fans, what I have read in their newspapers and on their message boards, the numerous games I watch on television via ESPN and the Extra Innings package and NESN, the articles on national and local websites, the interviews of former players and coaches, logic, reason, past history, pop culture, and we'll just agree to disagree. Ah yes, attacking my intelligence because my personal experiences are different than yours. I had forgotten why I disliked you, but thanks for the reminder.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) You coming milkman? I think I said yes like three times already. Yes, I am coming -
I hate all of the anti-smoking campaigns. I don't need these commercials trying to depress me when I'm just trying to enjoy watching TV. Nobody is going to stop smoking because of your s***ty commercials.

Inaugural Soxtalk Winter Meetings & Drinkathon

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) We will not have a drink in your honor. We'll pour one out for him, seeing as his life is officially over. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) I am seriously tempted to drunkily buy $600 return tickets for this nite right now.... (if someone will gimme free accomodation in Chicago for the w/e that is...) That's hardcore. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Over the top Red Sox fans remind me a hell of a lot of the Ohio State football fanbase. Completely irrational. I don't know much about Ohio State football, but Red Sox fans are also really, really racist.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) I have. And I've done the same with New York. And Philly. And Chicago. And LA. Red Sox fans are what White Sox fans would be if there was no Cubs. We would have the entire City of Chicago supporting us and we would be in an all-out war against NY for annual supremacy. We would hate NY and the Yankees, and we would be obsessed with our own team because of the resulting rivalry. Red Sox fans are smart, and they are certainly passionate. But they are not like NY and they are not like Philly. They support guys like Kevin Millar and Billy Mueller and "Mikey Lowe" because they are working-class guys who bust their asses and care about the game. Certainly if Bobby goes there and s***s the field and doesn't give a crap about his weight, then yes, he will catch some heat over it. But he would catch heat over that in any major city in the US. But if he pitches well and contributes to the Red Sox success, even if he has some tough outings, they aren't going to turn on him and all bring "FATASS" signs or something. Boston is a working-class, blue-collar city. Bobby is a working-class, blue-collar kind of guy. IMHO, he'll fit in just fine. Agree to disagree, I guess. I'll just take my years of first-hand experience being surrounded by their fans, going to their games, listening to their sports talk in person and on the radio over whatever argument you could possibly make.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) Hey, great reply! I guess I'll just take your word on all things Boston because you happened to live there. I mean, it's not like there is tv or the internet or anything... Since you're the expert Milk, maybe you could argue your case? Obviously if he goes there and completely bombs, he'll face some adversity, but he's not coming in as some savior or anything. They've embraced all kinds of guys that are down on their luck or are just mediocre players in the past, simply because they seem to like them personally or they have made their best effort on the field. Go listen to a sports radio show in Boston. Go read a website dedicated to their teams. Sure, they have fans who are just as level-headed as any in baseball, but they have many more over-the-top fans than most places (I assume, but certainly more than Chicago). And they are a lot meaner and far less forgiving.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) I don't necessarily agree. Sawks fans, while rabid fans, are not necessarily brutal in the personal sense that Phillies and NY fans can be. I think the fans will identify with him and he'll do pretty well there. I lived there for six years, but whatever you say.

I don't see this going well for Jenks. The media will tear him apart if he's anything but very good. The fans and writers will rip him relentlessly for his weight and work ethic. If you're one of those people who thought we treated him unfairly in Chicago, get ready for something special.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) I thought that movie was a disaster - horrible writing, just bad overall. I'd add Book of Eli, which I thought was a lot better than the popular reviews made it out to be. Haven't seen that, so I omitted it.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) someone will get desperate, he might have to wait until ST, but I think a team will have an injury or panic and give him good money And if the guy truly wanted to cash in on this opportunity, he'd lose some f***ing weight.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) Golden Globes are a sham. Always have been. LOL, I just noticed that this is the first year they've nominated Bryan Cranston for Best Actor.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) God damn. The world did not need more Captain Jack Sparrow. At least the music still gets me pumped up for an obviously unrelated reason! What's the problem with it? I thoroughly enjoyed the first three, and I like all of the actors in this one (Depp, Rush, McShane).

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread

All in? I dunno, doesn't really do it for me. There's a joke in there, too. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) Not the CDC and Jenner, but something that could happen next season. Well, let's hear it. Just put it in the spoiler tags.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread

QUOTE (bulokis @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) If we can trade Teahen and use his money for bullpen help. Maybe cubs will bite because they were wanting Teahen before we got him also. When I saw the money Teahen's getting on that list, I couldn't help but think of how nicely that could be spent on relievers. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) I think we can safely assume that the best case scenario is the same in both circumstances, correct? Sox win the World Series, giant orgy, the entire city of Chicago loves the Sox, yada yada. Can we assume that the worst case scenario is the same? I don't think we can. I think that the worst case scenario with PK in the fold involves a minor drop in attendance. I think the worst case scenario with Lee and Putz involved gets way uglier, because I think you see fans revolting about why the Sox didn't resign PK and seeing a huge drop in attendance. Maybe that's just my opinion, but I think they went through those 3 scenarios, and that PK grades out just ahead in both the expected and worst case scenarios, whereas in the best case they are virtually the same. You yadda yadda'd over the best part. One thing I have learned from this thread is that nothing will ever please everyone.

Shut up

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) Everything I've heard is Thornton or Sale is closer, and they'll sign Byrdak as their other lefty reliever. That would be just about perfect. Two quality lefties, a solid closer, Santos and Peña, and then maybe get one more righty in there.
-
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) KW is going to get us bullpen help. He has talked about it as if it is a certainty. He knows the deal in the BP There wouldn't be too much work to do if they put Sale as the closer and signed that Byrdak guy. You'd just have to sign Freddy (or someone of that ilk) to hold down the 5th spot until Peavy returns. I wouldn't mind an upgrade in either LF or RF, though.

My condolences, Russ.
