Oh man, I feel terrible for that guy.

I can see the headlines already. Johnson/Sweat causing uncomfortable predicament. Sticky situation caused by Johnson/Sweat. Johnson/Sweat problem stinks to high Heaven.

That’s a long way of saying “swamp balls”.

So really more like lowlights?

Point taken. But I’m looking at this from a league-wide perspective, not just from our pitiful point of view.

Kim Ng hasn’t been a GM for 122 years. She’s been a GM in the era of 40% off teams making the playoffs. It’s not that impressive. And the Sox are an overall embarrassment of a team historically, especially for a major market. Using their futility to counter the above paragraph isn’t fooling anyone.

40% of the league makes the playoffs. It’s not that impressive. That’s not to say that Ng isn’t as good as the hype. She may be. But one playoff appearance with a quick boot doesn’t prove much. She’ll need to do it again.

Also, I feel like Bochy wanted to use him there.

I don’t think I’d trust that guy in a close situation anyway. He seems to make it more interesting than necessary each time I’ve seen him finish a game.

Ah, that part of the sport eludes me. It probably makes more sense when looked at through that lens. Thanks.

That is exactly what I mean. And if this guy is looking to get paid, why would he not hit free agency? So the only hope for the Bears to sign him to an extension would be to drastically overpay him, right? It just doesn’t make sense to me. Just sign him in the offseason and keep the pick.

Last year of his contract? Are the Bears serious contenders to re-sign him? What do they have to gain by trading for him this season? We’re not in contention and you could have just signed him in the offseason.

Reports that the Bears are close to acquiring a defensive end. Improvements are obviously needed, but not sure if Poles is in the hot seat. And if he is, not sure how wise it is to let him trade away future assets.

That’s possible, but that wouldn’t allow me to make a smart-ass comment, now would it?

Not too much excitement around here, huh? I sort of half-watched game 1 and just checked in on the box score for game 2 a couple of times. Seems like Arizona is probably the team this year.

I imagine that’s them trying to take advantage of the Diamondbacks going deep into the playoffs. Mooching off of their accomplishments.

But those things are still better than a pitcher who doesn’t appear to be improving enough to even make the major league team, no?

2014 World Series (Giants/Royals). But let’s not act like the Rangers are scrubs. They tied for their division record. The Astros just had the better head-to-head record. Same.

I’ve heard advertisements for adult diapers on Cubs radio broadcasts. I thought that was odd and had to be embarrassing for the announcer to have to read it.

I don’t care either, just making conversation. I was talking to a friend a few months ago and mentioned about the Mariners being the only team never to appear in a Word Series. He countered with the Rockies. I had to explain to him and even pull up the Wikipedia article to prove it happened. I imagine this one will be similar. By the way, that one was memorable to me because the Cubs were swept by a team, who were then swept by a team, who were then sweet by a team.

Sounds pretty spot on. I’d say one component for sure is that he has a real disdain for the fans. That’s something that seemed like a goofy conspiracy theory a while ago, but now actually seems like it has to be true.
