QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Javy is great...A true stopper. Go back over the past 6 weeks and find out how many WINS we had where Javy followed them up with LOSSES. I realize the offense was terrible tonight, but Javy wasn't even capable of getting through 6 against these chumps. Pathetic. He truly is the anti-stopper. We had four great starts in a row from our starting pitching, and he comes along and f***s it all up. The man makes way too much money for the s*** performance he puts up consistently. He is a thief.

Thanks to Javier Vazquez and Joey Cora for ruining my perfect record on the year. Javier Vazquez remains s***. I'm glad he had that two-game stretch where he didn't look like complete s*** (a trend he's had throughout his entire career), but he's back to being the same guy who s***s his pants once almost every game (another trend throughout his career). And I'm sick and tired of Joey Cora. He's done plenty to lose his job, and he should. This idiot is on Wendell Kim territory now. You must not have too much upstairs when you consistently fail at your job, and your job consists of telling people to stop or go. I have a job all lined up for Cora. He can be one of those traffic controllers in Bridgeport after the games. We'd all get home a lot faster. There'd never be a stop sign.

Never caught a ball, and came close only one time. It was, I believe, in 2000. The game against the A's that we tied in the 9th when Singleton was balked hom, and Thomas later (10th) hit a double off the wall to score Valentin from first on an extremely close play. The ball I almost caught happened earlier in the game. Harold Baines came up with the bases loaded and two outs. He hit a shot that looked to be gone, right at me in the first row almost in right centerfield. It felt like slow motion. I got up, got ready for the ball, and imagined how much this might hurt if I don't catch it the right way. I swear that ball stayed up there for 20 minutes. Then, it was caught right at the wall. And it sucked.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) But Soxpranos told me our bullpen sucks... Updated... Did you factor out his one start or something?
-
Thank you. That's pretty precise. Maybe a 4.50 ERA is hoping for too much now.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) just for simplicities sake if he has pitched about 2/3 of the season with a 5 era, he would need about a 3.5 era over the last 3rd if the innings are balanced based on the parts of the season. An exact answer is impossible, simply because of a gagillion variables. Yeah, but what you said about 3.5 sounds like what I was looking for. Sounds like he could do it.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) Dude, I'm sorry. I'm laughing hysterically. I obviously don't. I would think, seriously, he'd have to pitch right around 6-7 innings per game at around 3 runs per to get back to 4.50. That isn't easy, this time of year, when people start getting tired. Put it this way. I'm just glad he's keeping his team in games. That's all that matters. /ducks out of thread now. Sorry to start crap. That's why I asked if anyone else knew.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) It's up to the mathmeticians of the site. It would depend on innings pitched, and earned runs... again Not trying to be that much of a jerkass, but I think it's a question that's extremely difficult to answer, that's all. And past history tells me that he sucks (I'm kidding on the last part). OK, then does anyone have the patience to actually figure that out?
-
Consider yourself lucky. Most periods last for days. You got off easy.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) He'd have to pitch GOOD for that to happen. How's that? But they all suck. Alllllright, I'm just looking for an actual answer here. Not sure why you're being a jerk about it.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) Hopefully Cotts will come around before the end of the year. If he does find some sort of groove again...then I don't know how anyone's going to score on our bullpen. The additions KW has made to it this year are just beautiful. Gee, thanks. ::blushes::

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) He sucks. They all suck. They all should just stop playing. Division over. No playoffs. Thome sucks, can't hit for average. Konerko sucks. All bullpen guys suck. Suck. Suck. Suck. Suck. Suck. Ozzie sucks. Suck. Suck. Suck. *sigh* Well, thanks for the snarky response to my legitimate question, Mr. Admin. Anyone know the answer to the actual question?
-
How would Garland have to pitch the rest of the year to lower his ERA to 4.50?
-
I'm liking how Ozzie recently has played only 1 sub per game. That's the way he should be doing it. Get most of the guys a rest about once a week, and get each sub in there every couple of days and as defensive replacements late in the game.
-
I don't know why it wouldn't count. I understand that it would be showboating and all, but catching it in your hat or pocket or whatever should still be a catch.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) Frank Thomas was never on steroids. Ever. SEC Tight Ends usually do not need to get stronger. Aaron Rowand was never on steroids either. Don't even suspect it. Pretty much all of his numbers suffered in 2005. His homers were almost cut in half (while having more at-bats in 2005 than he did in 2004). There's reason to suspect something.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) Caught (kinda) 2 batting practice balls. One was in the bleachers at Wrigley, when the immortal Chuck Carr of the Marlins simply tossed one up there for us. The other was my one and only game at Camden Yards in Baltimore. We were driving to the game from my sisters place by Philly, and during the car ride, my brother-in-law asked what the ruling is if a player catches a flyball in his hat...and if anybody has ever tried. Of course, none of us knew, but that was besides the point. So we get to the game, and we are watching the DRays take batting practice while standing behind that big scoreboard/wall in right field, and sure enough, Ben Grieve drives one our way. And as I was standing directly underneath it, my dumbass brother-in-law sticks his hat out and snatches the ball. Fortunately for me, the ball knocked his hat out of his hand but miraculously stayed in the hat. I picked the ball out of the hat and the rest is history. Kind of a cheap way to score a baseball, but whatever. The question still remains...is there a rule regarding catching a fly ball in your hat? My friend tried to convince us that it would be a ground-rule triple, which I'm pretty sure is bulls***. I'm sure it would be an out. You can catch a ball bare-handed, and it's still an out. So, I don't see why using your hat would be anything but that.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) It's like night and day when you look at Brian now compared to April and May. His at-bats are mostly all quality now. He's actually been hitting the ball a lot better than even his .300 average since July 1 would suggest. He had a stetch for a while where he was hitting ropes all over the place. They were just right at people. I agree with you about his power. He's easily capable of hitting atleast 20 home runs. Combine that with his speed and breath-taking defense out in center, it won't be long before he's considered all-star caliber, IMO. I think you might be getting a little too into his defense. -
Ozuna is hitting a granny right here. That was close enough.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) Yeah, pretty boring out here. I come out here couple times a year for work. At least there's no sales tax so I'll typically do a little shopping. The sales tax thing is awesome. I buy everything there when I'm at school.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) No problem. I'm out here in New Hampshire watching on TV. NH is the most boring state I've ever been to. Two of my friends are from there, and all we do at their places is look for moose and possibly shoot guns. The second part is fun, but not when that's all there is to do.

QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) I am not picking on you but this is funny. Most guys on this site want tickets for free. (not you) its kind of funny seeing put your money where your mouth is when 75% of this board need to ask Daddy for money to go to the game. For your information, I get my mom to ask for the money from my dad for me. So, your logic is flawed.

Great way to start off this series. The pitching continues to feed off of each other. Thank you, Contreras.

QUOTE(rowand @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Im back after a week long bullshaat suspension. Here ya go negative sox fans, remember about 10 days ago when I posted this? Now maybe you believe in your team. I was also terribly disapointed when I went to Sunday's game. I sat on the aisle (left field/3rd base line) and countless fans walked right past my view during pitches and at bats. Obviously a real baseball fan knows you can only go down the ailse if it is in between: (1) batters (2) during a pitching change (3) innings Do we really want these type of fans at the park? Sure they are buying tickets and supporting the team, but come on, I couldn't even watch the game half the time. Where are the ushers stopping this? How do I put this? Oh yeah... HELL MOTHERf***ING YEAH!

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Here's Crawford's deal: Set to make 4 Mil in 2007 5.25 Mil in 2008 Team Option for 2009 worth 8.25 Mil with a 2.5 million buyout So, considering we get someone to take on Garcia's contract, we'd have $6 million there, and I doubt Crede gets a raise of that much in one offseason.
