  1. If what KW is saying is true, then I have only one thing to say to it: f***! Fields has to be, by far, our greatest non-ML trading chip. We have a 3B already that will be here for a while, so he isn't exactly vital to us. I really want him traded for something that can help us a lot.
  2. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) Uhh... Well, it's not like it's normal. Random fact: Babe Ruth stole home 10 times in his career.
  3. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) :headshake Seriously great game... Garland was amazing... but this phrase needs to die a quick threat... It makes people think your like 12... :headshake That makes people think you're like 9.
  4. Great game in every way. Go get 'em tomorrow, Javy.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) He's over 100. It's so nice to see him get going though. I have plenty of faith in Jon and JC right now, and Mark will get things back on track. IMO the key to the rest of this season, is the guy on the mound tomorrow. Could not agree more. At least, barring a move for another starter or bringing McCarthy into the rotation.
  6. I figured I should sign on just to give Jon the props he deserves for today's outings (as I assume he should be done for the day). What a f***ing performance. Way to start us off on the right foot, JG.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) It's not blech, but these aren't exactly the '27 yankees. Aaron Guiel Melky Cabrera Bubba Crosby Andy Phillips And Miguel Cairo isn't exactly great, either.
  8. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Before we all write him off as Rodrigo Lopez or something, it may be interesting to note that Freddy had a 5.05 ERA last July. It isn't the awful 7.50 ERA he is sporting this July, but then again, he has 2 more starts to make this month. I am not happy with the guy either. But some of this is just piling on. If he was truly throwing 94 again on Sunday, that is a great sign. Remember how quickly things can change, folks. But his overall ERA is 5.05 (or something close to that) for the entire year. It's not just a bad month, it's a bad year.
  9. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) Freddy pitched fine after the first inning. He says his arm feels great and it was the ball leaving his hand felt best it has all year. That's encouraging. I hope some other team finds it encouraging enough to give us something of value for him.
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) All defensive metrics are questioned currently. Read the methodology and explain to me what the flaws are, Milkman. I think even SABRSox would admit defensive metrics are in their infancy, but it isn't right to dismiss them simply because they don't tell you what you previously believed. No, I never, EVER said that I trust my eyes over statistics. No, it isn't always clear that Pods is "plain bad" on defense. Peer pressure can be such an amazing thing sometimes. Yes, it is. Let's just forget it. Some people believe he's bad and some don't.
  11. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) There is actually a metric I posted this morning which shows that he is pretty average. Then someone pointed out its flaws, no? Scott Podsednik must be one of the worst LFers in baseball. Aren't you the one who said he trusts his eyes over stats? It's clear to anyone who isn't blind that Pods is just plain bad on defense.
  12. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) If it would keep Fields from being dealt, so be it. BTW, Fields has not been mentioned in any of these rumors either. Cameron makes little sense for the Sox, with BA coming on and Pods doing well in LF. And why exactly would SD get rid of him in the first place? He's actually mentioned in the rumor, unlike Mackowiak or Fields. I don't know why they'd want to get rid of him. And what exactly is Pods doing well in LF? His defense is terrible.
  13. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) just for kicks, if we did get cameron... dont you think that he would be the full time CF'er and that BA would become the 4th? s***, if we got Cameron, I'd let him or BA play RF and move Dye to LF because he is sloooooow. Then let Iguchi lead off.
  14. QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) Right, they are 13-13 when Widger plays, but they have lost the last 5 times he's played. AJ said on Mike North's show this morning that he will most likely play just about every day the rest of the season. Looks like Widger will have to get the old softball team back together after this season. AJ actually said that? If there's any truth to that at all, it shows that the whole team and organization feels the same way about Widger as all of us "overreacters."
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 06:04 AM) SD could use a LHP for their bullpen. ALan Embree is it. I bet Health Phillips could come in and at least be a LOGGY for them. Maybe Boone Logan as well. Jon Adkins is in their pen w/ an under 4.00 ERA. Interesting as well, that the best SP's in the NL west who SD must face are RHP's--Webb, Batista, Penny, Lowe, Schmidt, Matt Morris. Getting a versatile guy like Mack with his lefty bat would be a decent pick up for them. If the Padres wanted Mackowiak half as badly as you seem to want to get rid of him, they'd have mentioned him somewhere in one of these rumors. They don't want him, give it up. QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Adding Linebrink and Cameron fills 3 holes on this team... you add your righty setup man, your 4th OF (no more Mack in CF) and potentially move BMAC into the rotation and if all this takes is Fields, Freddy can be moved somewhere for young arms. Assuming that Crede is the cornerstone at 3B, this deal makes great sense for the SOx. You said it perfectly.
  16. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) San Diego could make sense for Freddy. They should be willing to part with Linebrink in order to a get a solid guy like Freddy [who will do better in the weaker NL, facing weak #8 hitters and the pitcher]. If SD can't get more offense, better to stock up on pitching. Would KW do a deal of Freddy and a spare minor league part [Phillips, or Haeger] for Linebrink and a prospect? That deal would strengthen the rotation by putting a fresh BMac in the rotation, and the bullpen. Tracey could likely take over the long relief role/ short set up that BMac held. I think Haeger should be considered more than just a spare minor league part. Just by considering his minor league numbers (and that some people say he could be in a lot of teams' rotations), he should have a little more value than just being a throw-in.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) I like the Henry Blanco idea but I just don't think it's gonna happen, for two reasons, neither of which are liked by this board ... I still don't think the Cubs will trade with the Sox and Widger is a big part of the clubhouse. Just my opinion. I know those two reasons will get pffffd by this board, especially the 2nd one, but IMO that's why I think backup catcher will be status quo. That said I would take Blanco over Widger in a hearbeat, if for nothing else than Blanco's arm. I sadly agree. Are there any other realistic options out there, though?
  18. If they'll take Freddy Garcia for him straight up (which they'd be retarded to do), or maybe throw in a few prospects, go right ahead.
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) yep, who needs a back up catcher after all? Why upgrade at that position when we already have a terrible back up catcher after all?
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) =Crede/Garland04=Rowand03.... Those guys were all young guys working through some growing pains. Widger is an old man that was never very good in the first place and now offers nothing good to this team. The only thing I can think of that he contributes is that he can give AJ the occasional day off. And if we want someone to sit behind the plate and call a bad game every so often while throwing nobody out, we might as well put PK back there. At least the offense from the catcher position would be upgraded.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) Widge 06=Timo 05 around here lately.. f***, I wish he could put up '05 Timo numbers. He batted .218 in 2005 and was super clutch. Widger is terrible. Let's not confuse that with the board having a vendetta against him. He can't hit and calls a terrible game. He really serves no purpose.
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 02:34 AM) I'm beginning to lose faith in humanity. Haha, I can't believe one person, let alone the two in this thread, could not recognize that quote even without seeing the movie. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 03:54 AM) John Belushi, ever heard of him? Yeah, the less talented Belushi.
  23. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) Contreras's first 2 months with Chicago 5-4 5.30 ERA 1.54 WHIP, 1.62 K/BB His ERA after July last year was also 4.58...half a run lower than Vazquez, but not good by any means. Do you mean in 2004?
  24. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) I heard it on my way to work. I don't know if I caught it in the middle since he was already talking when I tuned in. He said he doesn't care that Ozzie was calling him names, but didn't agree with the f** statement. North asked him if he ever used that term with friends or anyone and he said no. Jay said that he just took a vacation and that nothing happened with his job. He also said that he doesn't understand why the sox are so mad at him because he talks about the sox the same way he talks about the cubs, bears, etc. He said that JR is a little too sensative and whiney with his little squeaky wheels reference. Says he would meet with Ozzie as long as there are no cameras. That just tells me that he can lie about what happened later on and there won't be any proof of it. He'd probably say that Ozzie attacked him both verbally and physically, while using racist and bigoted terms all the while.
