Yankees/Reds discussing "huge" deal
Milkman delivers replied to redandwhite's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) And that would mean what? Decrease in production? Doubtful. We'll just have to see if anything happens. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) First off, I was joking about Arroyo. Second, Dunn would get torn apart in NY. When the hell did I say anything about production? -

QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) NY won't kill you for K'ing. Hell the team does enough of it. Thy give the Yankees s*** all the time, yet they still score a s***load of runs and Dunn would only help that cause. He'd get crap like everyone, but who doesn't get crap as a Yankee? Anyone slmps, Stein is riding thier ass. It's part of the job, but in the end, same result: Total power and total patience in that lineup. Dunn already gets a hard time from the Cincy fans. There is no way in hell that he doesn't get it 10x as bad from the NY fans and media. -

QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) 286 BA, 397 OBP, in the playoffs. Not great but very serviceable. Not to mention one of the biggest home runs in white sox history. Pods led us to our 1st world series title in 88 years as our lead off man and I recognize the fact hes not the best lead off man in the world, but for right now he is playing well enough to deserve some respect from the fans. He is an integral aspect of team chemistry and we have a few glaring needs to improve on. If we are gonna rip Pods then lets rip Mark Buehrle, Fraddy Garcia and Jon Garland. Should we get rid of them? I think not In fact, he's one of the worst. Do you read this site? We rip the s*** out of those guys, too. -

QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) Yea that short porch in right field would just kill his production?! He's basically another Jason Giambi but can play LF. They'd love to add another Giambi to the lineup. First of all, Jason Giambi himself could probably play LF just as well as Adam Dunn. And the point I'm making about him having a tough time in NY is this. If A-Rod gets as much s*** as he does, can you imagine how much a guy with as many K's as Dunn will get? -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) See that's where I differ from most "so-called" Sox fans on this board. I agree Hafner is an outstanding hitter, Hafner's numbers may even be a shade above Paulie's (even though he's the only player on his team with over 60 rbi's, but whatever) Does that mean I should be obligated to want to have Hafner on the White Sox and should root for him more than Konerko?? Not a chance. Hafner has never hit over 40 HR in his career, Paulie will do it for his 4th consecutive year this season. Not to mention Pronk has never even taken a whiff of playoff baseball, let alone hit a slam in the WS. Should I have rooted for the Astros in the series last year too just because they had better aces on their staff?? Grass is always greener somewhere else around these parts.... What the f*** are you talking about? -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) Changing your tune?? Before you said he did NOTHING positive for this team, and can do NOTHING right. If you have to keep arguing your case, does that give you more confidence in making believe you are right?? No all you comback with is quoting the poster on top of you yuo I'm pretty sure even the biggest Pods haters on this board can admit that he DOES in fact do positive things for the Chicago White Sox. This thread is useless, your "comeback" reasoning has gone way past pointless, your posts have nothing to offer other than "I HATE PODS," obviously there is nothing that anybody, including Pods, can do to reverse how much you dispise him as a player and on the White Sox. So we'll agree to disagree, I know Pods is not the best LF in baseball, but he is on the White Sox, and for that reason alone I will support him as much as I can. I guess you can go back to practicing your bunts. I wasn't changing my tune at all. I was pretty much calling your post dumb for using the fact that Pods is a good fantasy player to defend him. I was just trying to do it without actually saying that. Of course Pods does some positive things for the Sox, but he does many more things that are negative. But I guess it's just because I despise him. -
I love how everyone hates AJ.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) Perhaps. If it were me, I'd put in Ryan, Papelbon, Jenks and then Rivera. I think he'll go with that, or a slight variance. Who do you think will pitch the other 5 innings? I kind of hope Buehrle doesn't pitch for two reasons. I'd like him to get all the rest he can, and I don't want him to give up runs. -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) Never in this thread do I claim Pods to be a gold glove winner.... nor did I rally people to "HATE" Pronk or anyone else thats not on this team. Sure Hafner is a great ballplayer, does that mean he should get more love than Konerko on a WHITE SOX board??? Why shoudl I root and love players from other teams??? I came here to justify Pods against the haters in this thread that say he does absolutely noting right or positive for this team. If you truly think that, you are CLUELESS. Call me a Cubs fan, do whatever your little heart desires to make you feel better about yourslef becoming a GM someday. Ask any fantasy player that owns Pods if he doesnt do anything postive for the Sox. LOl He ranks just as high as any leadoff hitter not named Soriono. Haha, alright...you win. Pods has a lot of worth in fantasy leagues. I cannot argue his usefulness to this team, then. My God, are you good. -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) I agree that Dunn is not a super-fit in NY but there are two things to consider here. 1. Brian Cashman cares about getting younger. This is evidenced by his refusal to trade cano and Wang last year. Signings like Sheffield were always George signings. 2. Brian Cashman cares about OBP. This is Dunn's forte. To me, these factors lead me to believe this is the guy Cashman wants. Plus, he makes good coin for the small market Reds and has proven that he isn't good enough of a run producer to hit 4th. The Yankees could bat him anywhere from 2 to 7th. I just think the Reds are going to want guys that help them contend this year in return. Would Cashman do Wang for Dunn? Hmm Tehehehehehehe -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) Don't forget his awesome ability to be picked off first base at the drop of a hat. I can do that, too! And I can K looking with the best of 'em. -

QUOTE(Balance @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Seems to me that, more often than not, Scott is doing what this team needs him to be doing. I'm not saying he's the best leadoff man in the game, but I don't see him as a liability that is costing the Sox games, either. The Sox need outfielders to drop easy pop-ups, throw like girls, take terrible routes to balls, get caught stealing more than anyone else in baseball, have a low average, and not be able to bunt? In that case, I think I'm exactly what this team needs! -

QUOTE(Damen @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) Why shouldn't he be more respected than some players on this team? He's one of the best hitters in the game. You're not allowed to respect that because he doesn't do it in a Sox jersey? He wants you to be a homer. Hate everyone that's not on your team, and love everyone unconditionally without ever questioning their ability if they are on your team. -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) No, I just don't treat the players on my beloved team as if I were a Cubs fan. I find it funny that nobody in this thread cares to mention on how much Pods will get into SP's heads and out of their groove by making himself their top concern. No pitcher or defense wants Pods on base, yet every time he is up you see him with a full count. If he does get a hit or takes a walk, Iguchi benefits huge from several pickoff attempts.... usually resulting in 1-0, 2-0 count. By the time Iguchi's AB is over, regardless of the outcome, between pickoffs and actual pitches, we have the opposing pitcher throwing close to 15 times for two batters. The upside is one of the HUGE crooked number innings that we come to take for granted when all cylinders are kicking. But you guys are all right, Pods does nothing to help this team. Exactly nobody is attacking him here...why would they??? He is more beloved and respected than players on our own team. Of course Rob has played Left, we can all agree.... Has he started?? Even when Pablo has been hurt and Pods was slumping??? So he isn't better in LF than Pods because Ozzie doesn't start him in LF? That's what you're saying? -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Yup. Occasionally it comes up in the schedule where one of the off-days winds up sitting on the back end of the AS break. There's actually a fairly small load of games scheduled for Thursday anyway. And after Sunday, I think a lot of our guys could use the extra day off. Oh, I'm definitely liking the fact that they have days off, even though it'll be boring as hell for me. We can definitely use it, and hopefully it'll have our starters coming out strong. -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Should be great to see all these same people that are always b****ing to shut up again once Pods goes over .300 in the 2nd half. The same people in this thread that said we should have relased him to waivers at the beginning of the season. Pure ignorance. Two things or threads you can always rely on seeing at soxtalk Overwhelming hatred for Podsednik. Overwhelming and Overrated love for Mark Buehrle and Jerry Owens. Afterall, they are both the present and the future. :headshake No coincedence that one of the most beloved White Sox players takes a bigger beating than Travis Hafner on this board. Ohh well, must be the soxtalk good ole Cubs fan philosophy kicking in again. Who cares if a player is on your team, if you dont like him, F him. Thanks for the good jokes though... Pablo and ROb playing better D in Left. f***in hilarious, I'm quite sure thats why we see them there so much when Pods was slumping. Has Rob even played LF this year?? LOl I know Pablo has, I think Anderson is still trying to help him up off the ground after diving for a routine fly ball and letting it roll to wall. Jesus Christ. Take it easy there, killer. If we knew you were Lisa Dergen, we would've been nicer to you. -

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:46 PM) Smackdown has some great wrestlers, WWE just doesn't know how to use them. Despite his age Finlay's put together better matches than anything on Raw all year. For the record, tonights Raw might be the worst I've EVER seen. Finlay's actually one of my favorite wrestlers these days.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) G IP SV SVO H R ER HR HBP BB SO SLG OBA Papelbon: 40 46 26 29 25 3 3 2 1 8 47 .224 .200 Ryan: 39 42.2 24 25 21 4 4 0 0 9 54 .162 .197 I'd say it's just about a toss-up as to who the better pitcher has been overall but when it comes to doing what a closer is expected to do (close games) BJ Ryan takes the cake. Ryan isn't far and away better, but he is still clearly better given these stats. Papelbon still has a better chance to win, though, based on the fact that he plays in Boston. That sounds like I might be joking, but it's honestly how I feel. Papelbon would win right now because he's on the Red Sox.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) You're kidding, right? Their starting OF in the last game before the break was Melky Cabrera, the ancient Bernie Williams, and Kevin Thompson. Sheffield might be out for the year, and Matsui could take a while to get back on track. Yes, he was clearly making a joke. A joke that has been played out so thoroughly on this website that everyone should instantly recognize it. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) I find it hard to believe that Arroyo would be involved. He hasn't performed like he did at the beginning of the year as of late, but he's signed relatively cheaply for the next three years. Well, I'm only telling you what I heard from Steinbrenner's nephew, who I met at Walgreens earlier. -
