Hermanson Roughed up in Rehab Stint
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) I agree with you. I feel the same way regarding all the posts about how Vazquez is going to be great in the second half this season because Contreras struggled last year in the first half. People never mention that Contreras' ERA was never anything near what Vazquez has right now, or that Contreras pitched well for most of the beginning of the year and hit a rough spot in the middle.

Around the Horn
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) Just curious, when was the last time a defending WS champ didn't make the post season the following year? And didn't the Angels miss the playoffs in '03, too? A lot of teams have missed the playoffs the next year, it seems.

Minnesota Hurtin'
QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) that is what the TV guys were saying yesterday I guess Hunter has beeing playing with the injury for a couple of weeks and Shannon Stewart got hurt runnign to first base. Saturday nights game, the Twins had 1 bench player left. Joe Mauer who had the day off. Gardy said Jesse Crain was going to be a replacement player if anyone else got hurt ye gods. Now the outfeild is Jason Tyner in left, Nick Punto or this Rabe guy in center and Restovich in right It sucks because Hunter's DL stint seems to put him out until just after the deadline. That's a b****.

So where's Jay been?
QUOTE(SoxPhan7 @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) THey played a clip of the interview during B&B and Jay said something like he wanted a sit down with ozzie anywhere, just out of sight from cameras because he doesnt want it to become another "circus"! He also talked s*** about JR calling him a cry baby and "the squeeky wheel" whatever that means. THat is all i heard. You think Jay would learn not to throw around the insults so freely anymore after getting suspended from the Sun Times for attacking this very organization. Wise up, moron.

So who do you fear the most? 3 headed monster....
Haha, I saw this thread and thought it was new. I was thinking that the person who started it had to be retarded to still think the Indians were any good.

Minnesota Hurtin'
That means they can't trade Hunter or Stewart since they'll be out past July 31st, right?
-
Idea: Vazquez and Pods for Gordon and Abreu
I haven't read this thread. Is there an actual rumor somewhere in here, or is it just some random trade idea that someone here came up with?

Rally Crede
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) The fact that he's willing to punch John Mabry in the face when his catcher was slugged in the grill.......I think that's the main reason a lot of fans are giving him a lot of slack. For a guy that was hitting below .200.....seems like, well, normally, a lot of people would have wanted that guy gone. I remember when he was drafted and he's one of the first guys since I've followed the draft come through. And it's awesome to see him succeed. I'm willing to punch John Mabry in the face, too. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 03:17 AM) Remember i put the indians avatar and signature the day before the rally crede started... that was what did it all along. I changed my avatar and and signature... just for the sake of soxtalk. I knew it was you all along.

KW speaks about rumors
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) And here are the key quotes: "If people would just take the time to look at what has been consistent, it's a pretty easy answer.'' Since the start of the season, Williams has said his five starting pitchers are going to remain in a Sox uniform for at least the 2006 season. While the Sox tried to trade Garcia last offseason, Williams wants six starters -- including former starter-turned-reliever Brandon McCarthy -- at his disposal down the stretch. "Here's the plan, the same plan there was in spring training: Go through the season with the five,'' Williams said. "If something happens to one of the five, Brandon then steps in. Aside from that, if we are fortunate enough to get in the playoff situation, a short-series situation, we take one of the five and move one of the five to the bullpen to help us in that capacity.'' They did? And no takers?

Starting a New Mojo--Sox @ Tigers
I thought this meant someone was gonna make another rally thingamabob. It seems that whenever the Rally Crede makes an appearance anymore, the exact opposite of what we want to happen, happens. Perhaps the RC has lost its power?

"This Too Shall Pass" Thread
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Even after being swept by the Yanks, and looking bad vs the Red sox the three previous games, the sky is still not falling. This too will pass. The sox pitching can't get much worse. The offense can't be so ineffective in driving in runs. The defense can't be so shaky. A 3 game losing streak isn't great. But they've avoided big slides all year, only 2 four game streaks. They are still up in the wild card, and not far behind Detroit in the Central. The sox are healthy [i hope so]. There's a lot of baseball left to play. This team has more offense than last year, and just as much if not more heart. No deficit is too much for this team as they'll keep on fighting. The starters should turn it around, as all 5 have had substandard 1st halves [even Jose from what he had been pitching like the past year]. Jenks, Cotts, BMac and Thornton are very solid in the 'pen. So, for the pessimists, find another thread. This is for the silent majority who think the 2006 White sox have just as good a chance of winning the World Series as any team in baseball [save for some bullpen help of course, and any other gifts KW has up his sleeve]. Playoffs or Bust, 2006 White Sox! I'll add to the list as time goes on. So, who's with me? Beck 72 PS. Even for ye' of little faith, don't fret. You can sign on at any time [up until the day they clinch a playoff birth]. Looking at the starting rotation, I suspect that may not be the case. One or two of them may be hurt. And I still think the Sox will make the playoffs, if that counts for something.

Brian Anderson just landed on the Mendoza line
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) I suspect Mackowiak will give Dye a breather from time to time in the 2nd half and possibly Crede as well. The question still stands though, has it been a true platoon lately? I think it's been incumbent on Anderson to produce or at least give better at bats, he's been doing that the last 2 weeks roughly, so he's gotten more playing time. Seems like a logical cause and effect to me. I don't know the exact numbers, but it seems that Mackowiak is starting in CF at least once in every series. I understand the need to rest guys, but that seems a little too excessive. Anderson's defense is much more important than Mackowiak's offense, and Anderson has been hitting well for about a month now anyway. Anderson is a young and athletic guy, so I don't think he needs to be sitting as much as he does. And Mackowiak has the ability to play just about every other position on the field, so if he needs some PT, he can replace somebody else once in a while instead of always taking out BA for him.

And That's A White Sox Loss
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) I'm happy to see you objecting on behalf of those who WERE reacting knee-jerk about the bullpen. Garland flipped a switch all of a sudden from bad-to-mediocre to good and solid, and Vazquez went from good-to-shady suddenly, too, all within this season. I don't think I'm stretching to say that our starters'll be okay, but I guess, considering how everyone's reacting, we'll have to wait and see. I'm telling you, many people on this site have been asking for a RH reliever for months. I bet a lot of the people you're saying had knee-jerk reactions were asking for this reliever for a while.

And That's A White Sox Loss
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) I've watched McCarthy before, thanks. I know he's good, I just don't look at him and say "Ace." We'll find out next year. This year, if some of you get your way. Consider yourself excluded from the statement. I too think we could use another righty out of the pen, but I feel good about our pen, overall, and wouldn't be devastated if no trade occurred. A lot of people have been saying we need a RH set-up man. A whole lot of people. I doubt there were very many knee-jerk reactions just because of the first NY game.

Brian Anderson just landed on the Mendoza line
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Well the bench is going to play whether you like it or not, which obviously you don't. How about that shot that Jeter hit yesterday, right over Anderson's head. It happens. Mackowiak is about the last person to blame for this weekend's debacle. Quit trying to pin everything on Guillen, it's tired. The 3-4-5 hitters went 1-12 with runners in scoring position but I suppose that's Guillen's fault too. Garcia has a crap 1st inning, that's Guillen's fault. When Brandon "the savior" McCarthy gets plugged into the rotation and gets lit up, will that be Guillen's fault too? I choose to blame the players who don't execute and frankly haven't executed in the Boston series or this series. No matter how you look at it, Mackowiak gets way too much time out in CF. It's understandable to have him out there once in a while, but Ozzie platoons him with Anderson. That's too much time out there for a bad CFer.

Would you trade Freddy?
Your choice of thread titles sucks.

Brian Anderson just landed on the Mendoza line
QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) I was under the impression .220 was the Mendoza line. I always thought it was .220, too. Well, let's try to get Anderson to .220 anyway.

And That's A White Sox Loss
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) I'd consider trading Freddy Garcia. I don't see where I've ever said that I wouldn't. But I don't think I'd trade Freddy for a reliever, as our bullpen is one I'm confident in. I like and trust our bullpen, especially now without Politte. I know some people lost their minds after Friday's start and forgot that we'd had about a month of excellent bullpen work going into the start of this series, but I didn't, and I like our Pen as it stands. I truly expect Javier to pitch much better in the second half, and Garland too. There should be no doubt that Buehrle'll be okay, and Contreras, either. Freddy's our weakness because he isn't throwing like he used to, but overall, I don't look at Freddy and say, "We're f***ed!" everytime we go into one of his games. And, a clarification: by "We'll be fine" I meant the point that we had an awful beginning this year, then kicked it up. I think the same'll happen here. We were swept by the Yankees. We'll survive. On a personal note, I think McCarthy is very overrated, and I don't think he ever becomes better than a third starter. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't look at him and say, "Ace!" That's completely unfair. There have been plenty of people, myself included, that have said we need a good RH set-up man in the bullpen. We didn't just suddenly have knee-jerk reactions, which you're painting it as, because the bullpen imploded the other day.
-
Why does our starting pitching suck?
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 01:45 AM) Who's arguing? You seem to think that there's no chance that our starters are gonna come around. So why not take yourself out of your misery and stop watching? What I'm saying is that I'm not gonna start arguing with you about me not watching games, etc. and bring this entire thread to crap. You're clearly prodding me, and I'm not going to get into it. So, just forget it.

Hawk and DJ Today
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Garcia with another middle of the rad to poor outing. He gave up another 2 homers, but we had our chances for the offsne to deliver but they failed. The 8th inning Uribe should have been able to put down the bunt and couldn't and a DP ended the inning after we had 2 runners on with no outs. PK did his DP routine in the 9th. I don't know what to make of this starting staff. Garland seems to be gelling now and of course Contrears has been good, but shaky as of late. Buerhle has really been crap the last three games. But he has had bad stretches before and then finds it again. I hope it's soon. Garcia and Vazquez just suck. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that today's outing was piss poor, not "middle of the road" or decent or whatever. He gave up 6 runs in 7 innings. That's s***ty, and that's what we should expect from him every time he takes the mound. And I was very happy to hear Hawk and DJ speak candidly. I couldn't stand hearing them basically lie to us for months trying to make everything concerning the starters seem golden.

And That's A White Sox Loss
I hope they use the offday to make a trade sending Freddy packing and bringins us back a stud reliever. Our rotation is so overrated and overpaid.

The Sh*t Pitching Stops Here: Sox @ Yanks
And I'm now convinced that the AL East is better than the AL Central. The only team that we can beat in that division is the Orioles. The Tigers were even beaten by the Yankees and Red Sox.

The Sh*t Pitching Stops Here: Sox @ Yanks
And Dye finishes it by swinging a really bad pitch.

The Sh*t Pitching Stops Here: Sox @ Yanks

The Sh*t Pitching Stops Here: Sox @ Yanks
Konerko is such a rally killer.
