Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox
Milkman delivers replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Like I told you there aren't a whole hell of a lot of guys out there. Only 2 or 3 slightly intriguing names. And they still can be had, but for a high price. That was my point. I don't care if we have to pay a lot, we need some kind of help. -
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) Watch it man. Are you talking modern R&B, then yes. But older R&B has some great stuff. Rap is void of singing, R&B is mostly singing, and was ALL singing until Rap was born. R&B gets all it's sides from Blues, Soul, Gospel, and a dash of Pop. No wonder I don't like either.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) All of those are on the insider list as well. Plus a few more obviously. LMAO @ "18 Brewers". Yeah, that part made me laught. There's not many people on that list that interest me much, except maybe Walker or even Aurilia. I don't think Catalanotto would even be traded. -
I was at lunch with my boss and another guy, and they asked me what the difference between rap and R&B is. I had no clue. Can someone give me a little explanation? And give me a few examples of people in each group?

QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) My point is Frank has done more for the Sox than Schilling has done for the BoSox, so that is not a fair comparison. Well, Schilling did win a WS with the Red Sox. That's something. I'd rather have had Thomas for only a couple years and win a WS with him than have him his entire career and only get a few division titles. I'm a little selfish, though

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) They should of left seattle with Ibanez. He is a hell of a lot more attainable than Griffey and hits lefties and righties similiar. He has more of a line drive swing and can fill a few positions in the lineup(OF and 1b). I would be amazed if the KGJ thing would happen, I admire KW for going for it, but hopefully he has a backup plan. Our offense has struggled for a month now. Its a bit concerning before we go to battle in the playoffs that our offense can be shut down so bad. Bowden just ripped the Nats for not being able to score. However that team has outscored the Whitesox over the month of August by over 25 runs. We can thank a great pitching staff for keeping us in this and semi-afloat. Hopefully they can step it up in the playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised to see him transform into a HR hitter after coming to the Cell. It seems like the temptation is too much for guys. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) Keeping in mind that appreciating his efforts and being a fan of his are 2 different things. I know a bunch of Red Sox fans that can't stand Shilling but realize the effort he gives while pitching. Drat, you beat me to it.

QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) thats all that I was trying to say. I wasn't trying to point a finger at Boz, in general I was just saying its kind of hard to claim that you are a Sox fan if you cant appreciate what Frank has done for this organization. thats all Well, I guess it really comes down to your definition of fan. I think someone can appreciate what a player has done with being a fan of his. This is a far-fetched comparison, but I think it makes some sense. I appreciate what Sosa and McGwire did to help baseball with their homerun chase, but I am certainly not a fan of them.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Makes you really appreciate Nolan Ryan, doesn't it? Think about it. Nolan threw 100mph Jenks type heat as a starter and pitched many seasons over a long career. Add to that the fact that he went very deep into games, many times going well beyond 100 pitches a game. I recall reading that when he set the season strikeout record (383 ) he needed one last strikeout in his last game to eclipse Koufax, and went into extra innings with well over 100 pitches to do it. Incredible. Just incredible. LT He was also only 32 games over .500 in his career

QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) To further clarify my earlier post. They were talking on the radio the other day, I cant remember if it was 670 or 1000, but they said Frank was planning to join the team in the dugout very shortly. No hard feelings just a huge Big Hurt fan No offense, but I don't think there's a person on this site that isn't a fan of Thomas as a player. He's done great things for this team.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) I'm guessing that this is an injury that his doctor in Vegas would want to keep an eye on. If there is rehab going on right now, and I"m not sure if there is, I'm sure Herm could do a great job, but it's probably easier around Big Frank's doctor, since this is a recurring injury. Does anyone know if he calls members of the team to give them support? Email? Snail Mail? Seriously, just because he is not with the team, doesn't mean he's not with the team. And Podsednik's injury needed rest, not a cast. He wasn't told to stay off of the leg, nor was he put in a soft cast. Nor was he out for the season. And did you forget the two days he spent in Charlotte and not with the Sox? Should Pods have been with the Sox or on a rehab assignment? Frank has done and said a lot of stupid things in his career, but not being at games this year after possibly rushing back from his previous injury (only saying that because he injured it again) is not something to get in a huff over. Good points. I think I have a question to add fuel to the fire. In his other DL stints in the past, has he spent a decent amount of time in the dugout?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) When is the actual deadline for this one? Is it midnight on the 31st, or is it some time during the day like the last one? Anyone? -
QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) All of those look like national relief organizations. I wonder how many foreign relief organizations will come to the aide of an American City.....After the Tsunami and such America was quick to help out....how many will be quick to help us?? Goose egg?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) Still not an excuse IMO. All he needs to do is sit in the dugout and be with the team. He is on the team, right? We are paying his salary, right? This is a situation where...1) KW won't tell Frank anything and 2) Reinsdorf okays this kind of behavior from Thomas. Could you ever see Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams or Mo Rivera becoming injured and then not traveling with the Yankees and attending games? It would never happen. Hell Jeter could have a broken neck and I'd be willing to bet he'd make an appearance at the stadium. It's time for all of the Frank Thomas apologists to step up and defend your boy. Wait, it can't happen because there is clearly no excuse that he is NEVER with the team when he is injured. Just say no to a Frank Thomas appreciation day unless he wants to become a part of the team on an everyday basis, not just when its convienient for Frank. Well, I don't know about that. You apparently feel much more strongly about this than I do. IMO, the guy has done enough in his career to warrant an appreciation day. But, it could also wait until he retires, so I don't even know.

I always root for the bulls to maim or kill as many of the people as possible, as sick as that sounds. I hate these people with a passion. In high school, our spanish teacher had us watch a tape of a bullfight and she talked about it as though it were some glorious, respectful event. Those people are cowards. They throw spears into the bull, and a lot of them at that. The bull is riddled with spears, almost collapsing, barely enough energy to make a meek effort to save its own life, when a "heroic" matador stabs it in the neck. The more people that die in these runs, and the more matadors that are gored to death, the happier I am.

This kind of thing makes you grateful to live in a city where the worst that happens is a bunch of snow. I hope the casualties are kept to a minimum, or none at all by some miracle. And how long before the Rev. Phelps blames this on gays?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Milkman, you will get your usual answer. It will be a combination of Frank is so hurt that he cannot walk and is back in Vegas rehabbing for next season. However, I believe the guy should be traveling with the team. This has been commonplace for Frank to not be with the team when he's been injured. And personally, I think it is a bunch of BS and more fuel to my fire of things I don't like about Frank Thomas. I love the guy as a player, but things like this just boil my blood like no other. Unless you are bed wridden to the point you can't walk, you can at least sit in the dugout and give some support. Just imagine the feeling you would get while attending a Sox game when Carl puts us ahead in the 8th with a blast and Frank is one of the first guys giving him a high five when he returns to the dugout. Personally, I think it would give me chills. That's the answer I assumed would be thrown out there. I wanna think the guy is a team player, but sometimes it just doesn't seem like that. It was especially obvious when he was completely homer-or-nothing (even moreso than Konerko, have fun with that one, SS2k5) in his short stint with the team this year.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) And this on Volquez; Sweet, if he pitches inside, we can get runs the only way we know how...the longball. If it said he's not afraid to pitch low and away garbage, I'd be scared.

Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox
Milkman delivers replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hope KW's not focusing all of his attention on what could likely be a lost cause. They need to get someone, even if it isn't Griffey. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) Maybe if he was with the team when he was injured, ala Scott Podsednik and basically any other Sox player who has been hurt this season including a World Series champion like El Duque, I would be in favor of this. I haven't seen Frank at one game this year since he went on the shelf. Does he even care about this team and if he does, why isn't he in the dugout every game? Wow, I never even thought of that. That's a good question. Why was he never there? I hope there's a satisfying answer out there.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) Saw 'Cronica" with John Leguizamo today. Not bad, kinda drawn out, but the director's theme in both his movies is that often times, bad guys, or bad people get away with s***. It's refreshing to see a director give you some reality instead of the usual 'good always triumphs over evil, happy ending' non sense. I'll never understand this theory. Why do people hate hollywood endings so much? People go to movies to get away from reality, not to see a bad guy get away with a murder. I could open up a newspaper any given day of any year in any city of any country and read about that. I like when the good guy wins in the end and everything wraps up nicely.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) So you think Florida would be happy with Ron Villone right now, especially what they gave up for him? How bout Randy Winn and the Giants? Winn's hitting .280 with the Giants. That's not very bad, and a .280 hitter on this team would look amazing (and no, I don't want Winn). My point is that we need someone. This offense is wretched. It is pitiful. I don't care what KW has to give up from our overrated prospects. I don't care what money he has to take on. There has to be someone out there that he can get that's better than some of the garbage we already have.
