Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox
Milkman delivers replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) Mark Buherle for Ken Griffey Jr... I tried to think for about a minute on how exactly to say no, but there's just too many ways. No. -
Whoa, we can't give the players nicknames like Pop Up Paulie? That goes a little too far, doesn't it? Should the poster credepopsup have to change his name?
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) why are there two #45's? Because you touch yourself at night. Family Guy reference, please don't ban me
-
QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Yeah, that's about right.McCarthy will go 6 innings (7 if he's on fire like that no-name that pitched for Texas last night). Besides blind optimism, I don't understand how people could think he'll go deep into a game without giving up a ton of runs.
-
QUOTE(bighurt4444 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) For some reason, I think McCarthy is going to pitch very well today. I know common sense and past performance wouldn't suggest that, but sometimes you just have a feeling. Garland winning game one would be huge. Hopefully they can get off to a good start and carry it into the second game as well. But you're right, Hawk sometimes just needs to say what is really going on. The Sox have played terrible baseball the last couple of weeks and if they continue to play this poorly, they will NOT even win the AL Central. Sometimes the truth hurts, but they really need to kick it back in gear. In my opinion they will do just that, but time will tell. People said that every time he pitched this year. It hasn't worked so far and I'll bet it won't work again. 5 runs, easy.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) Dane Cook bombed, in my opinion... Dane Cook hasn't been as good since he basically became a sex symbol to girls. I can't believe how much they love him.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:18 AM) If nothing in a movie has ever scared you, then maybe you are cold blooded. If you're saying that you've been scared at other movies, but not at 'The Ring', then maybe it just didn't do it for you. There are a few different ways to scare people. I wasn't scared by the Ring at all. The last movie to scare me was the Exorcist, and even that's dumb now. Either nobody's good at making horror movies anymore, or what they say about video games is right.

I have to go completely against the rules of this thread. I don't know who could "capture" me, but we had to pick actors in senior year of HS that would play every single person in a class of about 30 students. Everyone, without exception, had Bruce Willis or Kevin Spacey for me. And I guess they'd be able to capture me since they're both good actors.

Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox

Anyone have a list of the free agent class after the '06 season? That might help us figure out possible trade partners for Contreras or Duque. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) I don't think that's quite as bad as Timo's blowing Ozzie, and that sort of junk. Or, so and so sucks AT THE PLATE, or so and so sucks IN THE FIELD (hello, Iguchi). That becomes a discussion on how they're playing as opposed to the person. Make sense? Yep, I get it. That shouldn't be a hard transition for me, since I can't even remembre the last Timo/Ozzie joke I made. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) There is a big line there. Something like "OMIT TIMO" is very different than "I wish Timo would get flaming hemeroids after blowing Ozzie and die a slow painful death". Saying a player sucks isn't going to get you in trouble. Saying a player sucks for his job, that's a different story, and will get you a vacation. So, I can't say that Timo Perez should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell?

37 hours...another countdown to nothing -
QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) soxtalk's superhero is back. hope can be restored in gotham. woo QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:16 AM) Great job Jason. I know we have talked at length about this stuff, and I am glad to see that many other people agree with me. I used to believe that the established posters deserved a little more leeway than others. As I watched this board grow, I have come to realize that it may in fact be the opposite. Because new posters look to the regulars for examples of how to act, if the regulars get away with murder, that in fact sets the example that it is OK to act like an idiot. At that point it only builds upon itself if the mods and admins don't do something to show that this behavior is in fact NOT going to be tolerated, which was never really done. As a group the mods and admins hoped that this stuff would die down, by not harping on it. The problem is that it never really has. Some problems have festered beyond belief and brought all kinds of ugliness to the board. Well it ends today. That part made him sound like a superhero. Honestly, I like the idea of punishing personal attacks, but I'm not as happy with the ban on attacking players (and I don't mean Lique-style). I'm almost afraid to say that a player sucks when, in fact, that player does suck.

Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
Milkman delivers replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Yes. And the Mariners on Sunday were cheating real bad. And the Yankees a couple of games, too--in our own park, no less. They snuck into US Cellular and cheated...They found out where to go from the Twins, who cheated all three games at US Cellular. And that homer that Freddy gave up in the Dome? Yup. The Twins were tipped off. Didn't you see the guy with the big sign that said: "Here comes a cookie!"? My comment was sarcastic. I can't tell if you knew that or not. -

I bet the A's and Red Sox cheated, too. -
Didn't that "clinch" thread come around before that loss to Seattle yesterday? I think I'll blame this on that instead of the team
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) That would be funny if he beats the Red Sox in the playoffs. That would suck because it means that one of them beat us in the first round.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) By beating I meant being in a position to win if his offense or bullpen didn't suck. That's why you measure a pitcher by ERA and runs given up and quality starts and not wins and losses. Sorry you didn't know that. Man, you really speak down to people. He hasn't beaten the playoff teams, that's my point. He sucked against two for the most part and he "beat" the other when they were terrible on offense. That is all, I am leaving for now. I don't want to get personal with you, but you're going there.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) I'm not attacking anyone. I'm attacking the posts. I just can't stand wrong posts where people say crap without even doing research. You said he beat LA twice. He won neither game. That's wrong research.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) WTF. Now you are trying to pin wins and losses on a pitcher with teh offense we have? Are you kidding me? Do you understand what you are saying. HE can only limit how many runs they score. He can't score for our offense. And playoff teams ususally have good hitting or pitching. He still hasn't beaten the playoff teams we'd run into. He won't be Boston or Oakland, and he pitched well against an awful LA lineup. He needs to beat the best teams to be considered an ace. That is all I'm saying.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Cleveland 3 times, Texas once, Anaheim 2 times, Baltimore 2 times, Det 3 times. He has a quality start in 19 of 25 starts. And he leads the league in ERA, and 2 of those are Oakland, who owns him. Two are even KC. He's beaten plenty of good teams. And happens to lead the league in ERA. Are you still being serious? I mean you can't be. He hasn't beaten LA at all, so you're making up stats. Cleveland was bad when he beat them, and Baltimore was awful the second time. Playoff teams, he hasn't beaten.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) I'd still take Buehrle over 90 pct of the pitchers in baseball. I think people are just disappointed that he's struggled against the top teams he's faced this year. That's exactly how I feel. I can't sit here and argue this anymore. He hasn't beaten playoff teams and I can't watch this game anymore.
-
By good, I mean playoff caliber.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) I just showed you that he has pretty much dominated everyone buy Oakland and Boston. What the hell are you talking about. Go look at his game log. Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore, Anaheim, etc. etc. How come everyone hasn't crushed the lesser teams and have a low ERA like Buerhle? Because he has the best f***ing ERA in the league. Unreal. Show me the good team's he's beaten?
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) He has the best ERA in the f***ing league. There are only so many bad offenses in the league. He's dominated Cleveland, Detroit, Texas before tonight, the Angels, Baltimore. The only good teams that he hasn't pitched well against are Oakland and Boston. I got news for you. A lot of pithcers have that problem. This is unreal what I'm reading tonight. The f***ing ERA leader. Wow. Because he mainly feeds off the garbage of the league. Look, I love Buehrle, but the guy hasn't performed that great this year against better teams. Wow.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) So Minnesota isn't good? I know, I'm going to get the lineup sucked that night. Didn't he get beat by them before that, twice?
