QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 12:04 AM) i think it is good to be complaining as we cannot sit here and be complacent with the way things went down tonight because in the playoffs worse things can happen and it is not like hermanson was dazzling either as Sweeney really should've drilled one of those pitches Hermanson threw up there I guarantee there were plenty of Red Sox fans complaining about Little leaving starters in too long during the 2003 season, with plenty of other fans telling him to relax.

QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) Hermanson was never not the go to guy. If it wasnt for his back problems noone else would have had a shot. Anyway. Great game. wish I didnt have to see Marte tonight, but a win is a win. Caught two BP homerun balls. All is good!!! Bring on the Patio Party, and the Almost a sure jinx. -
I think another big factor will be how PK performs in the playoffs. If he pulls (pun intended) a 2000 vs. Mariners, then that would make a decision easier.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Milk, i hate to do this, but I need some backup to our overrating. Crede, I can see, because his O is so terrible. But I think we see that fielding is also important, but so far with our winning streak, its nice to not have an automatic out in the lineup, therefor I can see the overrated piece in Joe. As far as A-row and Kong, for the price, I cant see them overrated. I'm not talking about price at all. I'm talking about how Uribe is the best defender in the league, Crede is the best 3B in the history of baseball, Pods is the most important offensive player in baseball. Or stuff like Buehrle is the best pitcher in baseball, except he can't beat good teams or that Duque is going to be the greatest playoff pitcher this year.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) Which prospects would you say we overvalue? If you look at our minoir league system 2 years ago compared to now, I'd say it's in much better shape. We've had young guys contribute on this team from Jenks to Cotts to even Anderson for a game. Oh and my thoughts on Konerko. He's going nowhere. Simply put, for the money we'd save, there's no-one out there in the FA market that is going to have the same type of impact in this lineup than Paul Konerko would. And with Thomas probably leaving, hard to see the Sox losing BOTH of their 1B / DH men. We've had plenty of prospects that were supposed to be something special, and they never panned out. Was Jenks in our minor league system for even a season? Cotts? QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Is Pauly overrated of underrated? What else is out there that would make you think he is overvalued? Would you rather have Sexson at a huge price? Im just not sure that there is anything out there for his price. Looking at his numbers this year, his dp's are WAY down from previous years, his OBP is the highest it has been, as well as his SLG%. He is on pace to break his career high in walks, and this is with minimal protection around him. He ranks 4th in the AL in hr's, 9th in SLG, 8th in BB, 10th in OPS. Top ten in the most important hitting categories in the AL. It is going to be hard to find that combo combined with his fielding prowess in the open market for his price. I have switched sides effectively, and there is no reason we shouldnt re-sign Kong. Plenty of our players get overrated on this board, but you can make the argument that enough of us underrate them, too. But some here think that Rowand is the greatest CF in baseball, or that Crede is one of the better 3B's in baseball and that his glove is second to none.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) My controls, then under options on the left side, board settings. Thanks a lot. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) I think it goes with most baseball fans, but possibly Sox fans inparticular, but I beleive we undervalue our players a little to much. Like Rock said, there is not much else out there to fill the void of Konerko, and if you think the 8 million or so we will save by not signing Kong, and putting Gload there, your very, very wrong. While Oz says we want speed and defense, even he will tell you the #1 thing this team needs is balance. We have the speed and table setters(for the most part ) we need Konerko as a big bat. Its about balance. I think most overrate our players, especially prospects, a lot.

I still don't like him, and I still think his RBI totals are too low for the amount of homers he'll hit, but he does deserve credit for raising that average and being steady for the second half of the season when a lot of other players went into the crapper. I've said before that I only want him to be re-signed if the Sox make it to the WS. Then, we'll have the money to throw around. I'm sticking with that. OT: How do you change the time zone on here? I can't find it.

Yeah, saw that coming. I'm at school. I won't be here to point out the bad things when they lose, either. So, it works both ways.

You're all talking about how Griffey would get hurt if he were traded like there is no other way for it to happen.

I just saw The Aristocrats and I had high hopes for it. Let me just say that I can't believe a movie with so many good comedians telling such dirty jokes can be so awful. I had never left a movie early in my entire life...until this one.

Saw 40 Year Old Virgin earlier. Wasn't as good as it looked or as I'd heard, but it was still damn good.

QUOTE(kevin57 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Hey Milkman, don't back off the comments. Yeah, your "hatred" for the Sox drives me nuts sometimes, but someone's got to keep us honest. Ha, nothing's changing until this team can call themselves the champions. I'll never b**** or be negative again, I think

Only stopping in for a minute, and glad to see the pitching and offense finally clicking consistently again. I just saw a break down and noticed Harris hit a homer, ha. You know things are going well when that happens. It's too bad the Sox are winning, though, since I hate them so much.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) I'll take this one on. I've rooted for the Sox almost half a century. I hung in there in the darkest times of all from 1968-70 when the Sox didn't draw flies, fielded awful teams and even played some home games in Milwaukee. I remember 1975 when the AL promised the White Sox franchise to the good folks in Seattle and had to backpeddle when Bill Veeck came to the rescue. That same Bill Veeck was ready to sell the team to Marvin Allen, who would move the team to Denver, a few years later. I've watched the Reinsdorf regime for a quarter of a century either be unwilling or unable to build a consistently winning franchise. The White Sox are and were my team of choice and I've hung in there with them both monetarily and emotionally. I'm so old I actually remember watching the 59 WS on TV, and could still give a pretty good game by game analysis of it. We lost the Series in game 2 when third base coach Tony Cuccinello did a "wavin' Wally" and sent Sherm Lollar home, ending a rally. Lollar made Paul Konerko look like a track star. I'm not old enough to remember 1917 and don't even know anybody who is. I've been through it all and don't need any lectures. The Sox seem to me to be a few bricks shy of a load, not a World Series caliber team. In the modern day watered down state of baseball a few bricks shy of a load may still be good enough. So I'll continue to call it like I see it and still root for the Sox. I don't need a loyalty test, I passed mine a long time ago thank you. That's awesome that you're able to remember the last WS they were in. I can't wait for the day I get to see them actually win one. It must suck to hear about bunch of 20 and 30-year-olds tell you you're not a fan. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Here is the logic of the pessimists. If the Sox lose the World Series on a fluke play or an umpire's call in extra innings of Game 7, they'll say ... "See, I told you they couldn't win it all." And they are happy they can say they were right. If the Sox win it all, they can say "I'll glad eat crow! How 'Bout Dem White Sox!!!!" And they are happy they won. Pretty f***ing pathetic. Think that all you want. There might be a few people that will be happy the Sox lose so they can brag about it, but there can't be many. -
I couldn't see the game and I can't see another game for the rest of the year unless it's on ESPN, but I'm glad Contreras is still dealing. He's been our best pitcher for over a month, and who'd ever think we'd say that? Good news for the Sox, they do better when I'm at school than they do when I'm home. So, I hope that holds true.

QUOTE(bighurt4444 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) I agree 100%. People bring up, well I feel this way because the Sox haven't won since 1917. So what! 2000 has nothing to do with this year. The Sox have what, 1, maybe 2 players now that they had in 2000. How many do they have from the 1993 team? This is not the same team as past years, so to talk about past seasons is stupid. This year the Sox have won 80 games this quickly, this year the Sox have a 7 game lead in the AL Central, this year the Sox have the best record in the American League, this year the Sox have a great pitching staff. This year the White Sox could win the World Series. People who have the always negative attitude towards this team are crazy. Sounds an awful lot like something a Cub fan would say. -

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) It seriously sounds like you'd enjoy predicting failure more than having the team succeed in the playoffs... You and the rest of this board can keep saying that, but it won't make it true. If you want to believe you're a better fan than me, I'll let you. -

QUOTE(bighurt4444 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) So you go into every game preparing for the Sox to lose? That sounds pretty boring and negative to me. Is it just me or does anyone else go into every game with a positive attitude. I usually don't take to the strategy of thinking the Sox are going to lose, but oh, I will go or I will watch because they might win. To win the World Series this year would not be miraculous. There is no one dominate team out there that everyone says, well theres your champ. Boston doesn't have the pitching, Anaheim is very similar to the Sox, the Yankees don't have any pitching, Oakland has good pitching and decent bats, but they can be beat. Who do you say, the Sox have no chance against? Of course there's a chance. The Royals can win every game for the rest of the year. We can win the rest of the year. But, our record against playoff teams isn't good, and our pitching against those with good offense isn't good either. Add in playoff experience, and it doesn't look as good. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) This team was built without Frank Thomas. That was plan as they did not know if he'd play any this year. We got a bonus of having Frank for 24 or so games. This team is not "worse" because we "lost" Thomas. He wasn't counted on in the first place. Just because we didn't think he'd be here doesn't mean his loss didn't make us worse. It clearly made us worse.
