  1. I am probably gonna go see Syriana tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) They really need to can their GM, when will they realize that all their team needs is two decent starters and a bullpen and they have a winning organization. For christs sake they had one of the better hitting teams last year, and now they r looking at burnitz who strikes out alot. What are they doing in Baltimore? a 1 year contract i could understand. However 2 years at that price. GMAFB!
  3. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) Per Rotoworld: The Orioles are close to signing Jeromy Burnitz to a two-year deal worth $6 million per season, according to the Baltimore Sun. What a remarkably bad idea. Maybe the worst of the winter so far, which is really saying something. Burnitz has had OPSs of 676, 786, 915 and 757 the last four years. His one good year was Coors Field aided, of course, and he had a road OPS of 775 that year. Burnitz turns 37 in April, so he's going to get worse, not better. As a one-year stopgap, he'd be tolerable. $12 million over two years is just flushing Peter Angelos' money down the toilet. Dec. 27 - 10:56 pm et wow words can't describe how stupid this idea is. not a good contract.
  4. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) Santo "made a ton of errors?" Lets look at some career numbers. Field% League Field % Range Factor League RF Player One .971 .953 3.10 2.76 Player Two .954 .948 3.07 2.58 So Player One has a better comparative F% than Player Two, but Player Two has better comparative Range. Player One? Brooks Robinson. That would of course make Player Two Ron Santo. Hitting? Brooks batted .267, hit 268 HR and had 1357 RBI in 10654 career AB. He averaged 48 walks per season and slugged .401. Santo batted .277, hit 342 HR and had 1331 RBI in 8143 career AB. He averaged 80 walks per season and slugged .464. One of these players in in the HOF, the other isn't. I'm as big a fan of Brooks Robinson as anyone else who posts here. It was a thrill when I met him. If I ever met Ron Santo, I certainly wouldn't be thrilled. But Ron Santo belongs in the HOF. I promise I'm not picking on you, Josh. You say that the HOF is for the elite. If only that were true. Mike Schmidt and Eddie Matthews are not the standard for the HOF. Pie Traynor and Brooks Robinson are closer to the standard, and Ron Santo is at least as good as Robinson, and is far better than Traynor. Robinson was a much better fielder. Santo was a good fielder but Robinson might be the best defensive 3B of all time.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) Hustle & Flow and Sin City were both terrible IMO. I liked both of them. I am saying Terrence Howard should and probably will be nominated for Best Actor in that. I hated I am Sam but deserved an oscar nomination for it.
  6. QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) Did they say if it was his picture or his fingerprints?
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Name two better 3rd basemen during his stretch. Brooks Robinson Ken Boyer Eddie Mathews
  8. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) Sure I love all those movies and I think Crash is probably currently my second favorite move of all time but I'm trying to be a realist. Sin City was never going to get any kind of recognition at the Oscars for anything other than Special Effects, it just wasn't that good. Kill Bill was way too wacky for the Oscars and Crash's lack of recognition at the Globes probably illustrates its small potential at the Oscar's outside of its screenplay. However, perhaps it will and I hope it will get a Best Picture nod. I also strongly doubt it will get a supporting actor nomination, there were too many good performances, no one stands out above the others, I'm not sure why Dillon was nominated for an award. What did Dillon do better than Howard? Sorry for being hostile. I thought Howard was better than Dillon. The thing is though that Howard will probably get an oscar nomination for Hustle & Flow.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) I'll probably be crucified for this, but considering the era that Santo played in, I think his numbers merit HOF status. .277 Career Average. 342 Home Runs. He made a ton of Errors. He had some good stats and he was a very good player however I think HOF players are elite. Not just very good. I think of him as good but not Hall of Fame type.
  10. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) I'm starting to think you're on crack now too, hate to say it. Just because you think movies rock doesn't mean the academy will spend more than 2 seconds looking at them. P.S. I hate Punch Drunk Love. Did you read the reviews for Sin City and Crash. Kill Bill vol.2 was a masterpiece. Crash will be looked at and be considered for Best Picture (lock for best supporting actor). Sin City will probably get some technical awards.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Yes, the most controversial movie ever perhaps didn't do so well... guess who's coming to dinner. I get your point though but things have changed. Monster's Ball was very controversial. Halle Berry won Best Actress for that.
  12. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) There was a time when the Academy stayed away from 'controversial' topics, that is slowly changing. It'll be interesting though. The Big Problem I have is that the Academy rarely nominates films that were released in January-June. That is a problem for films like Crash and Sin City. Both of those films had they been released in November or December would be big players for Best Picture and Mickey Rourke would have a great chance at Best Supporting Actor in Sin City. I still think that if Crash does get nominated it has a good chance of winning but that is a big if. Look at Kill Bill Vol.2. That was released in April. Had it been released in November or December I think it would've been nominated for Best Picture and David Carandine wouldn't of been robbed of a Best Supporting Actor nomination. Off topic but I still think Adam Sandler was robbed of an Oscar Nomination for Punch Drunk Love.
  13. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) Well your opinion means nothing since the overwhelming opinion is that it is excellent. It will win... and win big. no it won't. King Kong or Crash will win. It will be nominated though. Ledger will be nominated but will probably lose to Terrence Howard for Hustle & Flow. Michelle Williams has a great chance for Best Supporting Actress.
  14. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) Try the favourite come Oscar time. I thought the acting was real good. Heath Ledger deserves an Oscar Nomination and so does Michelle Williams. With that being said it was a B- Movie. I really like Ang Lee however I thought this was one of his worst films he made. It was a decent movie just not great.
  15. Friday games are now at 7:35. Just thought I would get the memo out. Sorry if this was already posted.
  16. Saw My Blue Heaven and loved it. It is really really funny. Steve Martin is hysterical.
  17. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Harold Baines is still a couple of years away from being on the Hall of Fame Ballot. His last year as a player was either 2001 or 2002 so it would be around 2007 I would think. Would love to see Ozzie get in the HOF, but I sort of doubt it. I would like to see Rich Gossage get in. I think Harold should get in. His career included 2 strike seasons. If those had been full seasons he would've gotten 3,000 hits.
  18. When does Harold Baines go on the HOF Ballot?
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) Um, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Grossman is the better QB at least for now. he could suck today. I hope he doesn't but he could throw 5 interceptions just like Orton did.
