  1. yep, Matt Ginter is on the Indians
  2. the way he raced over to that grounder on the right side keeping the runner on third was some heads up baseball. He is certainly our ace.
  3. I want to thank kyyle23 for seeing how two sided Konerko is. When he is good he is great. When he is down, he is pathetic. I know his numbers look really good but when you watch him everyday I just don't understand how anybody can ignore his bad side.
  4. QUOTE (almagest @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 12:03 AM) From 1999 to 2007, Paul Konerko had exactly one season where he performed below expectations for an MLB 1st baseman. Every other year, he was well above average. If we let him go after 2002, we would've missed out on the two best years of his career (2005 and 2006), and probably a World Series trophy as well. That wouldn't have been too smart. Your other response in this thread about hating his "pop-ups" (how do you feel about Crede, then?) leads me to believe you're not basing your opinion about Konerko solely on opinion, not fact. Paulie stinks this year so far, but he deserves a chance to work through it, because of the numbers he is capable of putting up. As I've said before, if he struggles through July, you bench/platoon him. Crede is not a #4 hitter so I do not have the same expectations as I do Pauly. Plus crede's defense (not so much this year) has been stellar so he gets some slack. When you throw in Pauly's 20+ double plays a year it's brutal. from '06 to present he has grounded into 55 double plays. I can't find another #4 hitter with those totals let alone another white sox. in comparison, Thome only has 24, Dye 42, AJP 38, uribe 18, and swisher 37. For his entire career Crede only has 62. maybe it's Pauly's GDPs that drive me mad and not his pop ups.
  5. No, I would never boo Konerko let alone any white sox. I do wish Pauly to do well however I'm just done with the guy. I just can't stand to watch another half a season of him popping up at least once a game and then act disappointed. I have accepted the fact that he will pop up. Why can't Pauly? If I am wrong about this guy I will admit it.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 12:00 AM) Did you read the entire thread? I'm not going to repost all Paul's accomplishments that somebody else put on here. Yes he should be immune from booing. My god. just reread the entire thread and other than the '05 playoffs and some decent years from 00-02 not much else was there. I have said that I liked for a time in october of 05 and that he needed to go about 6 years ago. I stand by my comments and look forward to many more LOBs from Pauly the Rally Killer in the second half.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 09:53 PM) He's Paul Konerko, one of the heroes in White Sox lore. Other than the grand slam, what else has made him a hero? I am drawing a blank. I can't think of many other great moments with him. Sure he has hit a bunch of homers and has been here a while but I don't see what makes him a White Sox legend. It just seems he puts up his numbers in such an unmemorable way. In 30 years will we remember him fondly or will we have to be reminded of him? He is still behind Thomas, Baines, Minnoso, Fox, Appling, Aparicio, Fisk, Peirce, Lyons, McDowell, and Ventura. I'd even put Buherle ahead of him. I'm not saying he has had a bad career it is just not amazing or unboo worthy.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 01:20 AM) well, according to some, the fact that Aaron Rowand was not on the Sox in 2006 was the reason the team lost the division. It had nothing to do with a broken down pitching staff, a mediocre bullpen, a terrible bench, or that Rob Mackowiak played a third of the team's games in CF. On baseball tonight a few weeks back they were talking about clubhouse leaders and I guess the Giants were raving about how great a leader Rowand has been. One player even said that had he been on the Mets they would be in first right now. Mind you this was a few weeks ago when the Mets were looking like a lost team.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 01:09 AM) Just curious if anybody agrees with me or saw this as I did. On the ground rule double tonight in the All-Star game, it looked like the fan actually went out of his way to not interfere with the ball in play, diving out of the way and pulling his hands back as the ball indeed kicked into the stands for the groundrule double anyhow. I commend that fan. You do not see that often. Fans are always trying to grab the ball even if it's in play. Has anybody else ever seen a fan make sure he doesn't interfere? I noticed it too. That was great. He is a true fan of the game. I have seen a few fans over the years throw their arms out trying to block people from reaching but not often enough.
  10. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) Actually it's changed significantly on numerous occasions. that maybe so but the game is still pretty much the same. Bowie Kuhn has a great quote: "I believe in the Rip Van Winkle Theory- That a man from 1910 must be able to wake up after being asleep for seventy years, walk into a ballpark and understand baseball perfectly."
  11. the fact that there is time to talk about the game. There is too much going on in other sports. Between each pitch you can discuss what happened in the third or last week or Rogers Hornsby averaging .400 for five years. There is time to talk baseball without missing anything.
  12. geez. sorry. I have just never understood the love for this guy. It just seems that half of his at bats are pop ups or double plays. To me he was always the lesser of the Frank/Mags/Lee/Konerko lineup. To this day I am amazed that he was the one that we won a world series with. I never got why he was named captain. I suppose he is a 3 (4?) time all-star so that has to mean something. Every year though he starts out so damn slow that I fear he is going back to being the Konerko of 03. He is the face of the Sox streaky offense of the last 5 years or so. Some of my comments have been a little exaggerated but I am just fed up with the guy. It just seems that every one else is blind to see how many rallies he has killed over the last 3 years. Drives me nuts.
  13. when i first saw that clip on tv I thought it was Prince.
  14. Why do I love baseball? the history the fact that I have watched so many games and still see something new and amazing in each one how perfect it is hot dogs the nicknames watching games with my dad running out of work to my car at 10pm to try to catch the end The first glimpse of the field when going to the game fireworks after a homer plays at the plate yelling at an ump just throwing the ball around Spring training hitting a whiffle ball off a tee at the age of 6 pretending to be the entire lineup pickoffs I could go on but I'll leave with two quotes: "With those who don't give a damn about baseball, I can only sympathize. I do not resent them. I am even willing to concede that many of them are physically clean, good to their mothers and in favor of world peace. But while the game is on, I can't think of anything to say to them." - Art Hill "It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." - A. Bartlett Giamatti
  15. other than the WS grand slam what else has konerko done for the sox? I mean besides the inning ending double plays of course.
  16. how many game ending at bats has he had since coming back? is it 2 or 3? I can't remember
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) Overreation. When Konerko gets hot, which he will soon, most everyone will change their tune. I've never been a fan of Paulie. Maybe once sometime in october of '05. He is the mascot of our streaky offense. When he is bad, he is as bad a player in the league. When he is good he is decent. He needed to go about 6 years ago imo.
  18. you guys all ripped on me in that Konerkop thread but who gets the last laugh. haha. I hate Paul Konerko so much. They should have just left him on the DL. He is worthless.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) Konerko is coming back. I'm not as happy as I should be. I liked the both the offensive and defensive makeup and the way the team played much better without an uproductive Paul Konerko in the lineup. Hopefully we start seeing some old Paulie. yeah same here. I think I am more disappointed in seeing pablo go than I am glad that Paulie the Rally Killer is back. As long as Konerko is back in the 6 spot I guess he wont hurt us too much. It sure was a nice 15 days without him though.
  20. I'd hate to see a bench with only one back up IF. Gotta have flexibility.
  21. new palehose is perfect http://palehose8.blogspot.com/2008/07/rerg...-of-paulie.html
  22. I guess that was a little much but he drives me insane. Konerko is just about the streakiest player to ever out on a uniform. When he is seeing the ball he is as good as a hitter as you can find. When he is not, he is worse than Uribe. Uribe may suck but at least he can sometimes come through with runners on base unlike bad Paulie. How many times has Paulie come up with runners on and ground out to the left side or pop up. Can he just stop acting disappointed every time he pops up and just act like he expected to, because I certainly did. It seems every god damn game he pops up. Oh, and for the love of god not every pitch needs to be pulled. I have seen him pull a pitch low and away 2 feet out of the zone. He'll suck for a month then hit like .700 for a week and a half, then suck for a month, then hit like .700 for a week and a half etc.
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) Adam "The Vulture" Russell I'm glad someone else caught that. Works for me.
