The Official Thread for Joe Cowley and his Agenda.
Kyyle23 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) What is this agenda that so angers Soxtalk? Part 1: ask board why everyone doesn't like Cowley Part 2: ask board to explain agenda Part 3: dispute agenda, despite proof of agenda being provided over and over and over. Part 4: giggle, repeat game in a few days. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) I'll never understand the hatred Cowley generates on Soxtalk. That's because you refuse to acknowledge his agenda. Its such a fun game you play! -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) Is anyone else in favor of just one "Joe Cowley b****es about the White Sox" omnibus thread? Personally I am f***ing sick of the agenda, and would love to see it not pollute anymore threads than it has to Yes. Call it "Marty loves Cowley" -
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 08:28 AM) It comes down to this: we all say we dont have any expectations for this team, yet deep inside everyone's hoping for 2005 redux. Of course, it surprised all of us. I would love to have that again

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 08:06 AM) Actually though...Brent's strikeouts went up quite a bit when he started "Letting her rip" and being more aggressive at the end of the year. He already seems to be doing 1 part of that in the 2 slot. Everything changed when he started letting her rip. He got more walks, RBIs, homeruns, and his Ks went up. I will take the strikeouts if it comes with a drastic improvement in everything else. It wasnt like he was striking out at an Dunn-like rate

I would rather see Morel bat lower in the order until he establishes a consistent approach for a lengthy period of time. It seems like he has been thrown into so many different roles, he really hasn't had an opportunity to just come in and hit. Last year it looked like the situation continued to compound on him, and he was just trying to dink and dunk singles and attempt to move the runner instead of swinging and trying to hit the ball with authority. In September he finally found some success when he was allowed to go out and play. Jmo

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 6, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) Gonna try to catch a couple innings at the Tilted Kilt this afternoon. there is a girl that works at the TK near my place that has a crazy dragon tattoo up her entire side, and she is mega hot. She makes paying attention to anything else nearly impossible -

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) Just got out of THE RAID: REDEMPTION... wow. Just... WOW. Unbelievable action movie. I know I posted a trailer to this movie months back as it was highlighted at the Toronto Film Fest, and the movie did not disappoint. It's by the same director as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon so just imagine that with guns, knives, and fists packed into the narrow hallways of an apartment building. The action scenes are the best I've ever seen. Take the best scene in the Bourne series (the one that comes to mind for me is the one in the 3rd story apartment when Jason stabs the guy with the pen, etc. and then he jumps out of the window) and extend it 30x. It was so intense that I was legitimately left breathless at a few points; I can't count how many times I heard someone murmur "holy s***!" or "whoa...". That being said, it's one of the most violent films I can think of so it isn't for everyone; two young couples got up and left 12 minutes in. Highly recommend. I might even see this one again in theaters, that excited. I read a review where the guy said it was the best action movie he has seen since Die Hard.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) One other huge issue for the NFL that were not thinking about is that the players are getting paid outside the salary cap structure. Might seem like a small issue...except for that whole lockout thing. And for the fact that it's no longer a big leap to having some of that money come from a gambler. The most I read for any bounty was 10G, and I think that was Favre. I don't think the league cares that they are making extra dough on the side, it isn't like these guys are doubling their paychecks

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 05:59 PM) I'm doing an all sports league in the city starting in June. It includes basketball, softball, dodgeball, flag football and volleyball. I'm pumped, should be a blast. I will be interested to see your results in something like this. Co-ed?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 05:14 PM) Right, there are already rules in place, so why the faux reaction? Williams went too far. But it's not some game-changing or earth-shattering secret that guys have always wanted to take other guys out. So long as it's within the rules and not cheap, illegal plays, it's just part of the sport IMO. I just don't see the justification for giving the guy the death penalty for something that's not that far removed from what everyone acknowledges is a league-wide practice. What he is asking for is not within the rules, is cheap, and illegal. What part of that is hard to understand for you? Plus, he was told to stop, and did not. And there were outside entities throwing in money as well.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) Can someone explain to me why the hell fans care if these guys are trying to kill each other? I certainly don't. These assholes are getting paid bazillions of dollars (plus a pension) to play a violent game. Am I supposed to feel sorry for them? I don't get the faux outrage and I especially don't get the faux reaction from the NFL. If I were Goodell I'd be like, "look, it's a violent game, i'm not going to belittle our fans who basically could care less if these guys are injured (unless it screws up their chances at a championship, but even then it's not like we're upset that someone got seriously injured...that s*** happens every week). So, yeah it was a little unprofessional, and maybe Williams took it a LITTLE too far. But the death penalty? No, not even close." Simmons has this article where he's pleading for someone to draw the "line" to let him know what should be acceptable and what should not be acceptable. I say don't have a line. No holds bar (within the rules obviously). I have the same opinion about the sudden seriousness of concussions. You get what you pay for. These guys aren't dumb. They know it's a violent sport and it comes with risks. Hell, the first day of football for any kid in this country is a video about becoming paralyzed. The line is the intent to injure, remove from the game. The NFL wants hard hits, violence is part of the game. What Gregg Williams wants and is asking for are blown out ACLs, concussions, intentional injury. There is a reason that this game has changed so much to where the QB is basically untouchable and hits below the knee and at the head are outlawed, chopblocks are illegal, the kickoff spot is moved up, etc. The NFL doesn't want this generation of players to be coming after them 20 years from now because half of them suffer from dementia, and the other half are cripples. It may seem somewhat hypocritical of the nfl, but trying to hurt someone by putting a bounty on a previously injured player cannot happen when they are trying to reduce the injuries these players are suffering on a yearly basis

QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) It's kind of funny it was the 49ers who knocked the shi& out of the Saints players in that playoff game. Im sure Williams knew that was coming, and tried to take the "punch them in the mouth before they punch you" approach, with some money as motivation

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) I'm sure nearly everything in the NFL is filmed these days...and I am sure NFL Films has deleted or edited tapes of dialogue just as bad or worse than this before. This is bad for the NFL, insomuch as I am sure a LOT of locker speeches sound like this. And honestly, what goes on in those locker rooms should stay in those locker rooms. They're just battle speeches, right? He's just trying to light a fire underneath his guys, right? It's over-the-top, inflammatory language designed to inspire confidence and rage. But it's bad in light of the scandal, obviously. But absent the scandal, would this be a big deal? Without any other proof, would the NFL take any action against the Saints or Gregg Williams? This speech was at the team hotel the night before, not in the lockerroom. Plus, the Saints had already been told to stop their bounty program a few years prior, so it wasnt like Gregg Williams didnt know that the NFL already was on to him. Saying it in front of a guy who was videotaping/recording it was just sheer ego and stupidity, IMO. And yeah, Im sure there are a lot of speeches that are inflammatory and designed to inspire rage, but looking at what happened here, Williams just thumbed his nose at it all and did it anyways.

Williams said all this in front of a guy filming a documentary. wow

That sail stadium is really pretty in theory, but couldnt you see a hurricane totally demolishing that?

Griffin leads with his forearm on every "poster" dunk he does. It started with him putting his nuts in Mozghovs face, and it won't stop because he has the "oh s***" factor. The only time it will get called is if he does it to another superstar. And even then, it will be 50/50 depending on the ref and situation

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) Having surgery in the next couple weeks and have to miss softball this summer. Kills me. That really sucks. When I moved up to Rolling Meadows from Carbondale in 2005, I didn't know anyone who played. I didn't play until 2007, that was a long two summers.

Softball? Flag Football? Ice or Roller Hockey? Basketball? Tell us where you are playing and keep us updated on your season. I play softball for Cobra Kai in Arlington Heights , our season officially starts May 10th, but we are playing a tournament in Carol Stream on April 29th. Getting pretty excited to start playing, we have been practicing for the last month.
