  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 12, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) I don't currently play, but I have been in some leagues that didn't have limits. It was really stupid. Yea the big boys tend to ruin those leagues. The only thing that is worse than a no homerun limit league, is a no fence league.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 12, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) Whenever I really try to juice it I pop it up so I give it a solid swing for good contact and its a rope but never that deep drive. There has to be some trick that those super fat guys do to crush the ball. The trick is top hand strength. If you watch the guys that hit home runs, it looks like they are swinging an axe, but they never dip their shoulders. It is all upper body, chest and arms for those guys. Illinikrush, you play in a no limit homerun league? I play in a 3 homer limit, 1 and 1 league. That means we each get three homeruns, but when each team ties at 3, home team gets a homerun, away team gets a homerun, back and forth. However, if my team hits all three and the other team has none, the next homerun is an out. I have played in a league where they are singles instead of outs. The largest limit I have played in is 5.
  3. Lol, a player appreciation thread turns into a hate-on-the-nickname thread before it even rolls over to two pages. Oh Soxtalk, how I love thee, let me count the ways.....
  4. QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 12, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) I don't understand the Pods hate. He was very good for us in 2010, I was disappointed when we gave him way to the Dodgers. Pods is good in small doses. Once you have him for a while, the warts(bad defense, strange baserunning lapses and failures, injury) start to show. I will forever remember him for 2005, but im not sad he is gone
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 12, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) Before Cyclops and the movie director left, X-Men last stand was the Dark Phoenix saga. stop jerking off you nerd

  7. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 12, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) um. none of this is true. ssshhhh it fits the narrative
  8. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 12, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) Hurray, my name makes sense again (kind of)! I should look into getting my screen name changed at some point...I was young and foolish and swept up in the 2005ness! send any of us a PM and we will change it for you. You can also post in the help section
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 12, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) I made another thread title. 2 in one week. Anyway, KW put it better than I did. (I am still not a KW fan)I have no problem with the White Sox trying to protect one of their young pitchers, especially their best one. You're welcome
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 12, 2012 -> 02:58 AM) I liked it more than ok, but I agree with you. I thought it was a bit long in the beginning. The rest of this thread has been nerds jerking off to geeky comic book stories, but this one I'll support. I remember the Phoenix from the X-Men cartoons and was hoping they would do something, anything with it. Instead all of the X-Men movies have been a disappointment. At least Wolverine's origin story was good (I can't fathom why so many people didn't like it). because it sucked. the end
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 12, 2012 -> 09:18 AM) Many years ago they had a 16" home run hitting contest at old Comiskey Park before a game. They had 3 or 4 guys hitting from second base and they were having no problem jacking them on the roof. It was impressive. Even from second base that is extremely impressive. Putting a charge into a 16" ball is no small feat
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 12, 2012 -> 08:25 AM) Scott Podsednik picked up by BoSox. From everything I have seen, it doesn't seem like offense is the problem in Boston, but rather pitching is. Strange move
  13. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 12, 2012 -> 07:27 AM) Played for a long time, both 12 and 16, until age/weight/injuries ended it for me a couple years ago. I was a speed guy with some power at first, then became a power guy with good speed ("runs well for a fat guy"), then a power guy with some speed, then with no speed, then a spectator. The natural progression for "softball guy", lol. I don't know if any of you watch Softball360 on comcast, but some of those guys are absolutely ridiculous. They were hitting upper deck 500 foot bombs effortlessly during a MLB field tour. Nothing but upper body hatchet swings
  14. The "pop" from Dunns bat this season is incredible, the sound of him hitting some of these homers is amazing. Great win by Gavin, and a nice hold by Thornton. It was nice to see Thornton trust his breaking pitch and getting Hosmer to bite on it.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 11, 2012 -> 08:18 PM) Didn't you hear we're trading for Youkilis? Phil Rogers talked about it on Chicago Tribune Live tonite. I think Rogers believes it is a distinct possibility, lol
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) Well, they have to do SOMETHING about Morel/Escobar. They can't bring up Kuhn or Corey Smith. SOMETHING isn't going to be converting a 1b to third. And I wouldn't get my hopes up about Dallas either, that guy is just a hitter at this point. He couldn't hack it at third. It is most likely Morel or bust, save a trade
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) Wonder when/if they'll consider moving Dan Johnson back to 3B? Yeah, that will be never.
  18. Kyyle23 replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
I really like Big Fish as well. It was very different from his normal goth comedy presentation, and the cast was top notch.
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 11, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) This makes no sense KW sounds stupid. You always find such positive things to say via one-liner
  20. @whitesox: KW on when he will pitch next: "As of now, he is going to start tomorrow."
  21. Yup, we play in Arlington Heights, i have also managed them for 4 years. We got moved up to the top division(A/B) this season after finishing 2nd and 3rd in the park the past two years, so we have our work cut out for us. We won our first game last night 25-10, slaughter rule called in the 5th. Good start
  22. Fox would have put that show on indefinite hiatus. then they would have let three episodes run in about 8 months. Then they would tease another full season. Then they would cancel it and netflix would stream the entire season
  23. The Civil War couldnt be just one movie.
  24. Boozer and Watson, please go away
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 10, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) Oh yeah. I just really want to know if Marvel Studios plans on buying back rights (like the Avengers from Paramount) or want to make a deal where the other studios just get cuts of the profits. Now that Marvel has a good foothold in the industry you have to believe that is the plan. They cant be happy seeing flicks like Wolverine getting released where they have no input
