Sox interested in Yanks' Brett Gardner
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Now Cowley is saying the Sox are thinking Juan Pierre. If he throws out all the names and one comes to the Sox he will be the guy that knew all along. Well he isnt a trekkie in his moms basement and he knows stuff.

What is a practical and perfect # of kids to have?
This question is really all opinion. I wouldnt mind 3, but thats because my first is a stepdaughter and I would like to have two children with my wife. If we end up sticking with just 2, I wont be crushed.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) Perhaps, but Iowa St is a natural rival with Iowa; and Missouri would be more travel than ISU. Mizzou also has a pretty good rivalry with Illinois. Its really a tossup, it could go any way. ND does make a lot of sense as well, although they will resist forever

I remember a few soundtracks growing up that were so much better than the movie ever was. The Romeo and Juliet soundtrack was pretty awesome, The Crow 2 had some really good songs, I think every kid I knew had the Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack, lol

Jeremy Reed, Lance Broadway and Brian Anderson Non-Tendered
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 08:55 AM) Also if you look at the 3 DFA'd guys and the trades they were involved in, Jeremy Reed was 23, had just hit over .400 as a 22 year old in AA and went with Miguel Olivo, the White Sox starting C at the time and Mike Morse, for Freddy Garcia, a guy about 100 games away from being a FA, and a guy with some issues off the field and on the previous season. So, at the time, if this was Marinerstalk.com I think the majority would have been in favor of the deal. Broadway went for Raul Castro, so that was pretty much bust for bust, and Kotsay was DFA'd by Boston. Everyone knew at the time Boston was exactly the perfect spot for BA, but they were going to have to pay Kotsay if they released him so they got a part. What is sad is a lot of these guys popped up on top Sox prospects lists. That has to change. Beckham is a start. Hopefully these other guys continue the improvement but we won't know until they prove they are solid major leaguers. I do think guys with scouting backgrounds who post on websites are looking at the Sox guys in a lesser light, and maybe its because of all the busts. Keith Law doesn't have much good to say about any Sox prospect and the other guy on espn.com covering the AZ Fall League says Danks is very overrrated. Maybe he is or maybe he's taking a calculated guess basing it at least partially on all the failed prospects that have come up through the White Sox system. I still dont think it matters in the grand scheme of things because of the boom or bust nature of prospects. We can sit here and talk about how the Sox system is full of nobodies and lesser players, and that scouts look at the system with derision, but that same farm system netted them Peavy last year, and at this point the only player that looks like will truly stick at the Major league level is Richard. Prior to the last few years the system was subpar, and KW was masterful at being a snakeoil salesman to get what he wanted. Now with them focusing on minor league development, KW will be able to be less of a snakeoil salesman and more of a Rolex salesman and the deals will be a little easier, and the kids will be able to come up and produce.

Jeremy Reed, Lance Broadway and Brian Anderson Non-Tendered
QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) I was upset that they traded him away....and I'm very surprised that he never hit well in MLB. Guys don't hit .400 in the Southern League without having talent. He must have had some huge flaw (like a slider speed bat or something) that just got exposed in the majors. Didnt he have a pretty significant injury in Seattle that he never was the same afterwards?

White Sox Non-Tender DJ Carrasco
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) I guess basically what I'm saying is that if they're penciling Hudson into next year's 'pen, whether it be as the long-man or another role, that more than likely we won't be players for a big bat. Of course, anything can happen. Especially when KW is involved. But I think it's a pretty safe assumption that it's going to be VERY difficult to land a big bat AND keep Hudson. Oh I agree that you probably cannot keep Hudson as well as make a significant trade. My thinking is that Hudson assuming DJs role in the pen makes it easier to trade him because he isnt such a vital role player in the pen. We saw DJ when the Sox were sucking bad and he needed to give them a couple innings to save the pen. Anyone can fill that role, you could put Torres in that role and not worry about it. My worry is that you put Hudson in that role and he stagnates in the pen. The kid pitched his ass off at every level last season, how would he adjust from going every 5th day to whenever he is needed to keep the bullpen fresh? If I were KW I would probably want Hudson staying with starting in triple A, both as insurance for Garcia failing as well as showcasing his stuff in case another trade comes up.

White Sox Non-Tender DJ Carrasco
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) If they're really committed to Hudson taking over DJ's role to at least begin next season, then I think it's safe to say AGON, Upton or any other big bat will not be acquired by trade. Not necessarily. It isnt as if the long relief/mopup role cannot be filled midseason by another arm should Hudson be traded. If everything worked out well we wouldnt be seeing much of the long reliever anyways, and our starters would be able to go deep into games and hand over the game to the setup guys and closer.

Sox interested in Yanks' Brett Gardner
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) I forgot, Brett Gardner is GOD....Give me a break. He's a dime a dozen player that can't hit.... If they wanted a player like that, they wouldn't of traded Getz. Its midwinter player discussion, and it was pertinent to the Winter Meeting discussion. If you dont like it, dont comment. There is no need to keep hitting threads with your crappy one liners complaining about the discussion.

Sox interested in Yanks' Brett Gardner
QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 07:44 AM) Very true. He is affordable, has tools for the leadoff role, is major league ready, and has upside [probably 1 year or more ahead of Jordan Danks]. IMO, it's a decent bet that Gardner can outperform a guy like Coco Crisp for 1/2 the cost. The Yanks could probably use Carrasco. They haven't gotten prospects in many deals. If the Sox can't afford his arb. raise, him in a package for Gardner would make sense. How so?

Sox sign Putz
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 07:20 AM) The finished games have everything to do with being the closer. He also has $250k based on appearances. Before anyone annoints Putz as the bullpen savior, keep in mind he has a higher ERA the past 2 seasons than Scott Linebrink and he's been pitching in Seattle and Citi Field, two of the most pitcher friendly places in the world, and is coming off some elbow clean up, the same sort of clean up Colon had last offseason. He won't even start throwing off a mound until after Christmas. If he's 100% its probably a very good signing. There really is no guarantee of that right now. He was scheduled to throw for teams yesterday

QUOTE (League @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) Can't believe that they'd do that, D.J. can't be asking for too much and I honestly believe that he was more important to us than Jenks was last season. Maybe this is the problem, Carrasco IS asking for too much because him and his agent also feel that he was more important than Jenks last season - Terrible Christmas Gift Ideas
