    Whiffle Ball

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/10/nyregion...amp;oref=slogin Kids build a fun whiffle ball field in an empty lot, chaos ensues.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Just think of it as seeing something new. I may get tix for Bound for Glory at the Sears Centre for that reason alone. My brother in law works security there and asked if I wanted to go. Im thinking about it
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Cowley Cowley certainly doesnt endear himself to canadians
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Cowley is a hack and isnt very believable nor reputable. The guy was banned by his own organization from voting for postseason awards because he embarrassed them. This is a guy who embarrassed himself by calling Canada a third world country and refused to stand for their national anthem. He's an unprofessional jackass who is trying to make a name for himself by being Marriotti-lite. whoa, when did all of this stuff happen?
  5. I choose death. Honestly, a split is what we want. With the Sox winning every game until the break
  6. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) god...JC and JV are starting to look like crap though.... both with 5 ER against the Royals..... The good thing is that both resulted in wins due to the offense. This was a giveup game last year, going down by 5 runs was imminent doom
  7. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) You don't have any real control over the nicknames you get tagged with. Otherwise good old Skidmarks Scanlon back from grade school would have opted for something a bit more flattering I'm sure. Yeah, it would something better like Super Skidmarks Scanlon
  8. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:32 AM) I dunno dude the Tree is pretty intimidating. Imagine him being coming out of the bullpen..... "Wasting no time they go to the Tree, the Tree leads the league in ERA, K/9, and Hit batsmen. I heard he threw at his own kid in a father son game..." when this guy sneezes, he looks like a party favor
  9. QUOTE (TLAK @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 07:47 AM) Just what did Cabrera do wrong? Leads off the inning with a walk. Swisher flies out. Cabrera's the tying run and steals second on the first pitch to Quentin who later walks. Then he steals third while Dye swings through the second pitch. Dye had taken a called strike on the first pitch, then K'd on the third pitch --with the tying run on 3B with 1 out, nobody was dancing at 2B as Quentin was still on 1B. On the night Dye was 0-4 with 2 K's. And JD yells at Cabrera? For what, trying to win the game? Its considered somewhat of a faux paus to steal a base like that on your own when the batter isnt aware. That wasnt a called steal, OCab noticed that the pitcher wasnt paying attention and neither were the infielders so he took off, and Dye was distracted by OCab in his line of sight. Then to complicate matters, Dye struck out on the next pitch which wasnt even hittable. Dye hasnt gotten a hit in the series, so of course he is frustrated, and he let OCab know about it.
  10. I swear i read something about this signing being investigated in relation to the Dave Wilder fiasco. edit: found it http://mlbtr.blogs.sportsline.com/mcc/blog...g=Michel%20Inoa
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) Dang, thats pretty rare. I usually read your posts and decide I don't have to comment (cause they are typically right in line with my thought process). I do say that from the Cubs stand-point it has to be considered a steal because Gallagher is the only person who had any value to them (Patterson/Murton were not going to have an impact on the Cubs anytime in the near future unless significant injuries occurred). take it with a grain of salt. Rowand44 has been frequenting the "i am drunk" thread alot
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Why do you say Liney is done closing when Oz told the Sun Times writer that Liney is his guy? I think you could see anybody close, even Thornton if Oz has the gut feeling that night. Because a month ago Ozzie said Kenny was going to make changes to the roster by Tuesday. Ozzie says a lot of things, and does a lot of other things. Im pretty sure Ozzie can see, just like we can, that Liney is struggling in the closers role. But he isnt going to blast his set-up guy in the paper after he said he stinks.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) 2004 is a long time ago. I'm not against oz trotting him out there if Oz thinks he is the man on a given night. I'm saying Oz in the paper said he has a reason for going with Linebrink over Dotel. Linebrink is on the plate; Dotel isn't, he said. Ok, well how about that Dotel has one of the best(if not the best) k/9 innings rates for relievers now? Is that a close enough time frame? Liney is done closing
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) Some of you guys act like Dotel is really good. He might be worth a try, but he's no Rivera. Committee sounds good to me. In 2004 he had 36 saves with 122 strikeouts in 85 innings with only 68 hits allowed. Saying he is "No rivera" is kind of like saying "He isnt the best ever". Of course he isnt, nobody is. That doesnt mean he cannot be successful in a role that he was previously successful in. The only thing you have to worry about is his health
  15. QUOTE (forrestg @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) i feel more confident when Thornton comes to the mound.. His whip is lower than Dotel and also feel that he is capable of going more innings and being the strongest closer.. Thornton also mentioned that he would like to be a starter in an earlier interview.. the lefty closer I believe is a better idea. The reason i am hesitant with Thornton is that he just doesnt have a lot of movement on his pitches. Some guys can just sit on his fastball, no matter how fast he throws it. Dotel occassionally gets lit up too, but he has so much movement on his fastball it makes it harder for anyone to sit on the pitch. Either way, I just want success in the closer role
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) The two best expected win totals in MLB this year? AL is the Sox at 54, NL is the Cubs at 55. I keep trying to shake it off, but I keep getting a very strong feeling that the Sox and Cubs are destined to meet in the World Series this year. The hometown sweeps in the crosstown classic, the almost identical numbers in the head to head series, the way both teams are playing. It just seems like it is supposed to be this way this year.
  17. With the smoke Dotel was throwing last night, I have no problem moving him to closer
  18. You say it at the beginning and the end of the inning, and when any team scores. I havent heard Stone and Farmer neglect to mention the score when any of those opportunities presents itself. I think they do a great job of keeping the audience updated
  19. Someone please open up Trade Winds. Quick
  20. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 01:20 AM) My name is old fashioned, as I figured. Kenneth was in the Top 20 1924 through 1964 (I didn't check every year in between, though). In 1985, when I was born, it had dropped to 47. Now it's at the 135th position. How the hell can Oscar, Cody, COLTON, or Liam be more popular? Also, here's a George Carlin bit on names. Sorry Kyle haha. You cant win em all
  21. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) I would bet my life that not one person on this site knows anyone that has the same name as me, spelling included. Isnt DrunkBomber of irish/gaelic descent?
  22. Sometimes it isnt lack of originality on the parents part as much as it is honoring other family members, carrying on a first name in the family, etc. Besides, i have seen some truly horrid "original" names. Im glad my parents didnt mess around and start pasting letters together or combining their own first names.
  23. Ozuna's specialty was hitting tough lefthanders like Santana and Sabathia. And now with his defensive woes, it doesnt look good for Pablo
  24. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) Sheets and CC are mostly likely not going to be resigned. The rotation will be altered to get them in against the cubs as often as possible even if it means going on 3 days rest. The cubs kill Suppan and Bush. Suppan was put on the DL to make room for Sabathia, he is having elbow problems
  25. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 06:37 AM) There is a website called coolstandings.com which you may find interesting. It projects each team's likelihood of making the playoffs by playing out millions of games (I'm probably simplifying this) and they say the Sox are a 68% favorite to win the division, compared to Minny's 28%. Mully and Hanley were just talking about this, I assume you were listening too. It was wierd, they had the Cubs with the best chance of making the playoffs at 85 percent, but the Sox were the best chance to win the division at 68 percent, at least thats what Mully said.
