QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Scott Boras /thread Does that really matter though? Boras is already paid for this client for quite some time, it isnt as if he will be asking for a raise anytime soon(ha, a raise from 25 million a year). I dont know if Boras prevents clients from being traded to the White Sox, he just prevents them from signing or re-signing with the White Sox. And this isnt me saying I want A-rod, because I have honestly become disillusioned with A-rod in the past 2 years. Especially in the playoffs

Supposedly Hastert had knowledge of Foley's tendencies 3 years prior to the recently dropped bombshell.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) What exactly did Konerko, Lee and Ordonez do in that series? I have to say that Konerko has more than made up for a poor 2000 playoff appearance. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) I think This one might be worse than that one. The people in the user comments trying to discredit Brian Ross are what get me. Who really cares that it was a republican that was outed. Who really cares that it is instant messages and not emails. The point of this whole situation is that a senator is getting away with being a pedophile in plain view of many people he worked with and in plain view of the public, and blaming it on alcoholism and behavioral issues. Take Foley out of his position as Senator, and put him in ANY other job in America and right now he would be sitting in a jail cell waiting to see a judge. This whole situation sickens me, the people spinning it sicken me.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) When you look at that 28 year old thirdbaseman's resume as you contemplate how much money he's worth to you and you see that he's had back surgery, no matter how minor it's still going to stick out that he's had to go under the knife due to his back. I agree with this, but the cat is out of the bag in regards to Joe needing surgery. I think it will either stick out that Joe had to go under the knife, or it will stick out that Joe needs to go under the knife. Either way, I think Joe's problematic back is going to cost him some dough in his next contract.

QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) anyone else feel like we did everything possible to let MN win the division this series by staring the bench? Granted we took the first two, and hats off to those guys for playing hard, but with the various quotes from MN players in the final month about keeping us out a priority, and the statements from Oz that the best team would take the field, I find it very disturbing he wouldn't do whatever is necessary to not let MN take the central on the closing day? understand Det shouldn't be giving up a 4 run 8th to KC, and our pitching gave up a whole bunch of weakass hits today, but our regular lineup could have done some real damage to Silva and it would have been a great final victory of morale to sweep our rival in the final series and stop them from winning the division. Or conversely do people feel like with the lackluster effort the starters were giving, our best team really is the bench? Even though we didnt sweep the Twins, we still stopped a rival from winning the division. Detroit must be really upset right now, they basically led the division wire to wire and lost it on the very last day, and now they have to face the Yankees as the away team.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) make 2007 the Year of the Cat. Grinder. Left-handed hitter. doesn't overswing. has usually played well against us. bring him on. Well, he wont be playing us if he is playing with us. -
QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) Jon did his Loiza impression this year...racking up wins...losing three straight when we desperately needed him...winning when it doesn't matter. Wasnt Jon rather dominant down the stretch, save one or two starts?

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) I thought it already started. I'm kinda diggin Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - but I love a lot of shows about media. Im looking forward to 30 Rock, and I wanted to see Studio 60 but I forgot to set a reminder.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 08:54 AM) I'm not a box of rocks, ya know? I've seen every episode. I think the UK version did a much better job with David than the US does with Michael. They are both idiots and insensitive, but you could actually like the UK version despite all his idiocy. The US Michael is just a dick. Nothing to like about him at all. In the last episode when Jim starts praising Michael and says he wasn't the reason that Jim left, and that he was a great boss, that whole part was really weird. We all see Michael is a terrible boss, and we all have been believing that the only person in that office that likes Michael is Dwight. I know the story, plot and all that junk, I just think Carrel does a really bad job with the character. In a show that is asking you to play along with it's "reality" so much, the main part about of it is so unrealistic it hurts the show, for me atleast. I had a feeling you might get a little offended at that. Sorry about that. I think its just the different approach that Gervais and Carrell take on the boss character. Honestly, I dont really think Michael is as abrasive as he is clueless. The season premiere he was incredibly abrasive, but I kind of felt that was a little much for Michael(although I felt the witch hunt episode was hilarious). I really like how Carrell looks at the camera, his goofy grin-stare when he thinks he said something smart makes me laugh every time.

QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 30, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) We may be doing all the Yankee haters a favor cuz I believe that in a short series, the Twins could eliminate the Yanks. I dont know if anyone past Johan Santana in the Twins starting rotation can hold down the Yankees lineup.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 30, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) Finally watched the new episode last night. I liked it well enough. Michael was less abrasive, and the twist with his party failing was kind of nice. But he still doesn't do much of anything to make you think he is a decent guy at all. If anything the show makes you feel like you yourself are a better person because you can find sympathy for such a prick. I think you are misunderstanding Michaels character completely. He is supposed to be abrasive, insensitive, dumb, and completely unaware of his offensive nature. He has been that way since show #1. The hilarious part of his character is that he somehow holds on to his job despite how completely inept he is. The more abrasive and clueless Michael is, the funnier the show is (usually). The decent guy on the show is Jim, the wierd guy is Dwight(although most of the background characters are equally as wierd, they just arent as prominent), Ryan is the intern/whipping boy, etc... I think if you spent less time trying to view Michael as a decent guy you would find the show much more funny. The background characters in the show are coming out this season with their own identities, the drunk lady, the gay guy(Oscar), Ryans crazy girlfriend, the kleptomaniac, etc.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) I agree as well on the Roy and Pam thing. This year hasn't seemed as funny as last year to me. Joy is a trip on Earl - she plays the white trash character to a T haha. She has had a little practice: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204350/ If anyone has seen "Poor White Trash", it isnt that great of a movie, but it has its moments. It is sort of a template for My Name is Earl. Pressly pretty much plays the same part

Has anyone been watching thus far? Once again, this show has me rolling just about every time I watch it. Im wondering a few things, is Jim getting ready to exit the show or are they going to bring him back to the office to make one more move on Pam(who quietly broke off her engagement, I must have missed that). Dwight is still my favorite. that guy plays the part perfectly.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 06:48 AM) I can think of no man who accomplished more in baseball than Frank Robinson. Youngest player in MLB 1956. Oldest player in MLB 1976. Rookie of the year 1956 NL MVP 1961 AL MVP 1966 AL Triple Crown 1966 WS MVP 1966 ASG MVP 1971 2 World Series rings 586 career HR Player Manager 1975 HOF (Player) 1982 ML Manager 16 seasons Manager of the Year 1982 Presidential Medal of Freedom 2005 That is extremely impressive. Dont forget his 2 minute staring contest with that umpire last year, one of my favorite highlights of the entire year. The look on Robinsons face was priceless

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 11:46 PM) Time to find Mariotti's columns from last postseason. I don't think he was celebrating the title calling the team all these things. He wanted the last word and got it. That's why sports figures should never argue with those who sell ink by the barrel. They get the last word every time. These "near chokers" as he classlessly called last year's Sox made his company a lot of money last year with all their books and special sections celebrating these near chokers' title. I can't believe a grown man added this comment in his rip column "There was a moment in Boston when A.J. Pierzynski caught a foul pop, appeared ready to hand it to someone in the stands, then teased the poor fans by keeping the ball as only A.J. would. It was typical of a club that had a high opinion of itself but couldn't back it up." Tease the poor fans? Wanna bet one of those poor Boston fans was filling AJ with the F bomb the entire game??? Give me a break, please. I think if you were to dig up his columns from last year you would find the same thing that Eric Zorn found out last year: Jay is a serious flip flopper on any issue, team, person, column. Adding to the issue that Ozzie called him a f**, it only fueled Mariotti's fire. Seriously, I wouldnt be surprised if Mariotti is writing about Ozzie's "infamous slur"(as Jay loves to call it) in 2008. The guy just loves to perpetuate grudges.

Early May with a bad back? And yet Konerko still has very strong numbers, despite how much he has fallen off lately. I wonder what has been wrong with his back.

I dont care how staged this "sport" is, but John Cena got his ass whooped by William Regal last night. Even Fit Finlay looked like he was somewhat pulling his punches last night, but Regal was blasting Cena bigtime, and Cena had his arm tied behind his back. It looked extremely painful.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I have a source that's saying Cena will be joining DX. Not sure exactly when, but it's a pretty believable source. Understandable. McMahon has been trying to put over Cena for over a year now, Cena just isnt a likeable guy to the WWE faithful. DX is still getting a big pop when they show up, McMahon is probably just trying to transfer some of the DX goodwill onto Cena. If DX develops a NWO-like stable im gonna throw up. Batista should be coming back to Raw soon, I am thinking. He just hasnt been the Smackdown draw they wanted, and Batista just doesnt seem enthused about being there.

QUOTE(GaelicSoxFan @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) Evidently, the Jarrett family has forgotten how Russo drove WCW into the ground. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 05:40 AM) Technically, when Russo had control of creative in WCW, the ratings went up. He lost control for a while due to suit pressure and the ratings went back down. Then he had to dig them out of the hole again...The death of WCW is more on the suits who thought that wrestling was too "low-brow" for TNT/TBS and therefore did whatever they could to get it off more than it is on Russo. See, I completely disagree with this. When Russo got to WCW, The NWO/Good Ole Boys network was in complete control of the show. The inmates were running the asylum. Russo tried to mix things up and move the title from Hogan/The NWO, and the NWO stopped listening to the creative team. Does anyone remember when Jarrett was supposed to fight Hogan for the title, and Hogan got into the ring and literally laid down in the middle of the ring and let Jarrett pin him, gave him the title, then they gave Jarrett an NWO shirt? The very next show Russo opened up the show and made an announcement that the fans would never see Hogan, Nash, Hall, etc. on WCW ever again because they were bad for the show(on the boards, there was alot of talk that Hogan was really pissed about having to lose the title, so they basically bought off Jarrett). At the time, I had no idea what the hell was going on, but I had a friend who was really into wrestling that explained to me what actually happened. Russo basically let all of the high paid stars of the company walk and collect their paychecks because they were ruining the show by running the show. The only problem was that the fans didnt know what was going on behind the scenes and basically had their reasons for watching the show taken away from them without being truthfully explained why. It was a bold and risky move by Russo, but it really had nothing to do with the demise of the WCW, it was already dying out. The programs were extremely stale and had no more continuity, and Russo was basically supposed to be a bandaid on a gaping wound. Then Turner lost his nerve and sold.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 09:04 AM) Trading Jon Garland would be the bane of stupidity. Unless it gets us Erik Bedard (Garland + prospect) in return I want no parts of it. I am not a fan of Willis...he would have to improve his complimentary pitches to succeed in the AL, he's young and talented, but still a ? mark going to the AL I just thought this was hilarious. The bane of stupidity, the nemesis of stupidity, the opposite of stupidity. In other words: Smart. LOL, I love it when people post like that
