QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 13, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Gotta love the ignorant old people... West Virginia Primary: Good Morning America Meets An Uninformed Voter Would have been nice if the reporter didn't hint that Obama might be lying. Reminds me of Hillary's "as far as I know" comment. She/He (Not sure if Snow is a 1st name) could have stated that in fact Obama is a Christian.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 13, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) Here is the response from the guy who conducted the interview. He pretty much rammed a cattle prod up John Boehner's rear end... Here's Glenn Greenwald's take on this topic (one of my favorite bloggers BTW). LINK

QUOTE (knightni @ May 13, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) Watch it a second time. I'll give it another chance. I abhorred the original Deuce Bigalow the first time I watched it but it really grew on me after a couple viewings.

With 2 superdelegates already this early in the morning I wonder if Obama will get enough of them today to completely offset any gains Clinton gets from WV.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 12, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) If your position is a good one, a just one, one that you believe in, why hide it by voting present? What a display of courage and leadership that was. I know that it IS a rule in Illinois that you can vote that way, but it is just a pussy way of trying to have your cake and eat it too, and shows a lack of political backbone to take on those tough issues and show people where you stand. As for Balta's 'show me where his one vote mattered', it didn't as far as I can tell, because he usually voted 'presen't in concert with others. That whole block of votes may have made a difference, but since they didn't vote, we'll never know. Quit being ashamed of who you are, Obama. Show the world your voting tendencies, be proud! I guess he would rather be 'present' instead. So you're saying that you would have strongly considered Obama if only he had not used the 'present vote' tactic as an Illinois Senator?

Construction started on the Chicago Spire
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 12, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) I didn't know they were adding so many on to the Blue Cross/Blue Shield building. As of now, they have the framing for about 6 or 7 floors up. Here's the rendering of the final product (taller than 340 on the Park): Which building is it in the picture?

What happened to the gas tax holiday? Clinton hasn't mentioned it once since Indiana and North Carolina. Was it not a big deal to her afterall?

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (maggliopipe @ May 12, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) I read if you filed your 2007 taxes within the past 6 weeks (so, basically if you filed in in late March up through the deadline) there would be a delay in getting your stimulus check. I was expecting mine on May 2 and still haven't seen it so I did some research and found that out. I had a decent sized tax bill so I wasn't going to rush to get them their money. I guess they're returning the favor. And yeah, it gets direct deposited into whatever account your tax return went to. I filed mine in early February.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 12, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) I was suppose to have mine by May 2nd and nothing yet. According to the schedule I was supposed to get mine on Friday but nothing yet. My tax return was direct deposited so I assumed that was what decided whether the stimulus was going to be direct deposited. Maybe I'm wrong about that?

Construction started on the Chicago Spire
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2008 -> 08:38 AM) So, we got letters in my neighborhood last year, saying that the Alderman had approved this huge 90 unit condo building in the area. The building was going to be just south of Fullerton and just west of Damen, where some old industrial buildings had been, next to the Metra tracks. At first we were all a little leery, wondering how tall it would be, and if it would be Section 8 housing, etc. Then we found out what it is... Chicago's first bottom-up "green" condo building. Wind power, green roof, newest energy systems, star-rated appliances, all that jazz. Interesting. Image... Pretty cool.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) 4 more SD's (give or take) for Obama today...he takes the lead in the AP count, the Demconwatch count, CNN still has Clinton by 2. That doesn't matter because after a blowout win in West Virginia Clinton will have it locked up.

Michigan Democratic Delegate Deal - unconfirmed
QUOTE (Texsox @ May 10, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) Absolutely true, but unlike most countries where voting is a sham at best, we will actually spend a lot of resources in trying to give the voters in Michigan a voice. In most countries it just would not matter and the default position would be, who cares? I think we are better served when everyone's vote is so important we go through this and try to make sense of something fair. IMO there are 2 options for Michigan. A revote or 50/50 split. Those seem like the only 2 fair things to do given the circumstances.

QUOTE (Felix @ May 10, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) The real question is how could you have expect anything else? That movie looked terrible, despite having Tina Fey. I never even saw the preview. We intended to go see Sarah Marshall for $5 but they had some bank handing out free vouchers to any movie in front of the theater. My girlfriend said Baby Mama was supposed to be very funny and I heard mixed things about Sarah Marshall so figured what the heck. I typically like Fey and Poehler.

Michigan Democratic Delegate Deal - unconfirmed
QUOTE (Texsox @ May 10, 2008 -> 08:12 AM) Because there are actual people in Michigan, hundreds of thousands who took the time to go vote. Good honest Americans who decided on that day to be part of democracy in America, regardless of what a handful of party officials did. In this country we have a deep respect for each person's vote, and will leap over any hurdles to make each and every vote counts in some way. It truly is one way we are so different than most other countries, we'll move heaven and earth for even one voter. Some states have all or nothing primaries, so that option is not without precedence. Assuming a vote for "A" is really for "B" is tenuous at best. It is a long shot strategy, but W. Clinton was a long shot and won. But the results in Michigan are not a true representation of how the people would have voted. How many people stayed home knowing or at least thinking their vote would not count? Allocating delegates based on their results just doesn't jive for me.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 9, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) The word of mouth on them has been going around for like a year now.I know crappy groups that have been out for a far less period of time and are better marketed than they are. There is no excuse for them to not be banking on that. Agreed but they do play a lot of shows. I'll give them credit for that. They even played that Obama gig at the Aragon earlier this year.

West Virginia Primary Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) So, everyone is talking about 5/20 as the next big date (OR, KY), but West Virginia has a primary in the meantime, this coming Tuesday. Its only 21 delegates, but its still worth noting. Of recent polls, the only one taken since the NC/IN results was done by notoriously inaccurate ARG. The most recent before that, by Rasmussen (5/4, 840 LV) shows Clinton with a 29 point lead. That may drop a bit after the recent results, and when Obama actually arrives and campaigns in the state this weekend. I'd guess a 20 to 25 point Clinton win in WV on Tuesday. This would be comparable to a team scoring a safety in the final 2 minutes of a football game and still being down 3 scores.
