White Sox vs. Red Sox 7/23 Game Thread
whitesoxmanager replied to DBAHO's topic in 2005 Season in Review
very glad to see the orlando hernandez pitched extremely well...that was really the most important part of a whitesox fans day... -
ribbierubarb! nice post! the only question mark i have in the whitesox organization is 1. darren jackson & 2. john rooney. Darren doesn't really strike me as a true WhiteSox guy & Rooney just starts screaming sometimes....other than that....this team is the absolute bomb!

QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) I'm rooting for the yanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Detroit Tigers will win the wild card. 250-1 odds they win the AL.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) Imagine if the Angels had this guy, plus K-Rod. Too Bad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How appropriate if he closes out the Angels in the playoffs?

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Nah, they don't allow chewing tobacco in tee ball. (Last I checked) Jon = gawn for Marte. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> willie had a good game tonight. he started a very nice turn on a DP early in the game. wouldn't complain at all with him. he keeps working hard.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) I can't speak for everyone, but at Soxfest, he seemed like a really likeable guy. From a player standpoint and from a fan standpoint. JMO, though. Guys, quit b****ing. Good 1-2-3 inning. Be happy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> nice to see OZ moved Arow up in the lineup

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) Well, yours are good points, don't know that I totally agree with all of them but I see where you're coming from. What I would not do is have Vizcaino face Manny Ramirez in a game tying or game winning situation in the 8th or 9th inning, in direct response to your last point. He did not get the job done tonite and I can't see doing the same thing again tomorrow. Ramirez will torch just about everybody at one time or another, but if I can I try to have him face Politte or Jenks because Politte can spot pitches better than Vizcaino and Ramirez has not seen Jenks' curveball. Plus, we need to find out more about Jenks anyways. I think it's pretty well established what we have in Vizcaino ... an inconsistent guy who gives up his fair share of big hits at bad times, and also shows he can go for a 2 week stretch of pitching fairly well. And all in all, that is not good enough. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree with most of what you say except you are not realizing that Vizcaino is a young 21 year old with potential upside....http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6291/ he had given up only one earned run in the last 12 innings pitched spanning a month.... He couldve mailed it in after his performance early in the year...he has showed me that he has some toughness and confidence in himself and was perhaps beginning to turn the corner. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) Thanks, I needed a good laugh. Vizcaino threw a f***ing meatball to one of the best hitters in baseball history. That confidence in Viz sure looked strong as he walked off the field with his head down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> All of us in life get down, it is how we get back up that is important. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) First, Manny is so much better against rhp. Also, the other two hitters that inning were lefty batters. Vizcaino is a pitcher who has problems with the long ball. He absolutely can't be trusted in a tie game like that against terrific hitters. And why does everyone think that every player on the Sox is being showcased for a trade? I love trade rumors just as much as the next guy, but Viz is going nowhere. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ortiz lefty Manny righty Varitek righty Millar righty no? -

This game is really about confidence and execution. Getting Vizcaino to believe in himself and his stuff is exactly what Ozzie was attempting to do tonight. He really has done a tremendous job for us lately. Ozzie was trying to build on that! He was so close to sitting in the dugout and hearing from all his teammates...great job man...you just got Ortiz & Manny out...you are the man! -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Fathom, tell me you put or leave Neal Cotts in to face Manny Ramirez. I can see the argument for Hermanson perhaps, or even Jenks vs. Vizcaino. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i liked the move to leave Vizcaino in the game for several reasons: 1. he has been very good lately gaining confidence and actually looking pretty tough...he is just about to turn the corner on the guy the Sox expected to get 2. maybe he is going to be a part of a trade and the Sox are showcasing him 3. hermy is coming off an injury 4. righty vs righty matchups 5. 4 game series dont necessarily use the closer in non save opps question now is do you go back to Vizcaino tomorrow in the same situation???? -

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Vizcaino is atrocious in game situations and has been all season long. "He didn't execute" LOL!!! When has he ever executed when the chips are down? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would highly recommend to turn it to the Angels Yanks game on mlb.tv! Good game going on over there! Good luck and remember don't get down...think positive and have fun with this team! RedSox fans last year felt worse after game 3 then we will ever feel! -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) Well let's see. Ramirez was coming up so you want a righthander in there, no one can convince me that Neal Cotts should've been in there period. So you have a choice of Vizcaino, Hermanson, or Jenks. I presume Hermanson was available but even if he holds them and the White Sox don't score you're still left with Vizcaino or Jenks. He went with the veteran, who gave up a long home run ball on a horrible pitch to a great hitter ... after the 3B drops a pop up. Can anyone tell they gave this game away with mistakes??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> in baseball the team with more errors almost always lose. in football the team with more turnovers almost always lose. it is strange to say but those errors on the board cause the weirdest most unbelievable things to happen. ozzie is tough...the team reflects his toughness...it is better to go thru the rough stretch now and not later. we definitely are not hurting unless we start seeing some injuries...no pun intended! i agree we don't need to make any moves other than put Arow in the 3 hole. -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) We haven't given away a game this badly all year, including the Oakland series (plural). I guess the one-handed Timo effect is catching on too much in the clubhouse. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think that Crede was trying to get to the stands and then adjust to the foul pop. He lost his balance and then tried to one hand it....give the guy a break...if anything Crede gained confidence that he can get a huge hit late in the game. We all know that Rowand is major clutch. I will say it again, I put Arow 3rd in the lineup and keep him there. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) When Shingo was DFAed, Jizzcan became our worst pitcher. But for whatever focking reason Ozzie throws him out there in a key situation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ozzie was trying to build on his confidence and Hermy has been injured...not bothered by the move at all. -

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) Jizzcan is back to his old suckass self I see. Why was Cotts not in at the beginning of the inning? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Vizcaino was making tremendous strides...I hate to see him losing any confidence from this! I am really gaining respect for him. Extremely bad break! Crede has been great at 3rd, so not really down on him either. Lets see how this team handles a little adversity! -

Thomas, Buehrle give Maggs warm reception
whitesoxmanager replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Magglio Ordonez was an exceptional player that never really got the name recognition he deserved. He showed up every day, played extremely hard, was about as clutch as could be, and had a great character & demeanor both on & off the field. I will always miss him and wish him the best of luck in everything he does, but hope that he is happy with finishing second! The interesting thing about Maggs is that he wasn't the heart & soul of the WhiteSox like Paul Lo Duca was with the Dodgers...so missing him isn't nearly as devastating! You know I still miss Wilbur Marshall...with him the Bears might have strung a slew of SB's together! -

QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) The Ump has to be informed and Ozzie is the one to do it. The PA has nothing to do with it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And how is the UMP informed? -

QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Carl is not in the game at that moment. He is simply on deck. If the home run is not hit, Carl would have been announced as the pinch hitter and it would have been official. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does the manager send the change to the UMP before the PA? or does Carl just stroll into the batters box and wait for the PA? -
