  1. Take your official stand here and now, feel free to add players if I miss them... just tried to get the ones that decisions are being made on. AJP - Trade Konerko - Keep Beckham - Keep Alexi - Keep Morel - Keep Pierre - See Ya Rios - Trade (very unlikely) Quentin - Trade Dunn - Trade (very unlikely) Viquel - Keep Buehrle - Keep (at right cost) Peavy - Trade (very unlikely) Floyd - Trade Danks - Keep Thornton - Trade Ohman - Trade Frasor - See Ya I'd be very active and change up this team big time if I were Kenny. C - Flowers 1B - Konerko 2B - Beckham SS - Alexi 3B - Morel/? LF - ? CF - De Aza/Rios RF - Viciendo DH - Dunn BN - Lilli BN - Viquel BN - ? BN - ? SP - Peavy SP - Buehrle SP - Danks SP - Humber SP - Sale SP/RP - Stewart RP - Santos RP - Reed RP - Infante RP - ? RP - ?
  2. And let us not forget, dude, that mark teahen got a 3 year 15 million dollar deal.
  3. Ok so if Rios is 40 mil rowand is 12 thats 28 extra million for 3 years of rios for the giants. is he a 9 mil a year player absolutely not but if the sox can get that down to a 7 mil a year player would the giants be interested? i can see rios getting 3 years/21 from a dumb team on the market. ok i cant but the giants did sign tejada for almost 7 mil this offseason.
  4. Not sure if his salary is now the Giants no matter what, but the Giants nearly traded Licecum for Rios back in 2007 or somewhere around then. I know he is owed more years than rowand's $12 mil next year, but would a rowand for rios trade with some cash going the giants way work? Would get us out of Rios for 2013 on.
  5. If lilli was our full time dh this year and we never signed dunn KW would have gotten crushed by every sox fan including myself. Now look I'm pretty sure we would be in first place or at least 3-4 games better with him in the lineup instead of dunn. maybe way more. weird how this game is sometimes.
  6. That is one of the few lineups I could think of that would be worse than our current one. How is that worse? I'd take Viciendo Sweeney and Getz over Morel Dunn and Rios this season.
  7. KW has made a few major mistakes in the last few seasons that have made us question him as our GM. IF you look at the other moves he has made, he's done pretty well. But the mistakes he has made have been big ones. Ones that combined could definitely be fireable offenses. 1) Swisher for Gio and Sweeney+ 2) Peavy for Richard 3) Claiming Rios off Waivers 4) Teahen for Getz 5) Jackson for Hudson+ 6) Signing Dunn Luckily KW has rid himself of mistakes 4 and 5 salary wise. But if you look at Peavy, Rios, and Dunn you've got over $40 million in salary that could have been replaced with the young cheap players traded for swisher and jackson and with a different free agent instead of dunn. We would have had an extra $27 million in the offseason without Peavy and Rios. Who knows what would have happened, but here's a could have been 2011 White Sox Roster. c - AJP/Flowers/Castro 1b - Konerko/Berkman 2b - Beckham/Getz 3b - Beltre/Morel SS - Alexi/Vizquel OF - Quentin/Sweeney/Berkman/Pierre/De Aza DH - Viciendo/Berkman SP - Buehrle SP - Danks SP - Floyd SP - Hudson SP - Gio SP - Humber RP - Frasor RP - Santos RP - Thornton RP - Sale RP - Ohman RP - Crain I added Beltre and Berkman as free agents, who could have both been had. That team is about $25 cheaper than the current one and a lot better. 6 major mistakes and we've got our current team...
  8. When I heard these type of statements, I literally LOL'd. I would like everyone who said any of the following to admit it, call themselves some kind of deragatory term (as mild or harsh as you feel you deserve), and we can all move on while recognizing the sillies who say these kind of things and expect people to listen. It's a slow Monday and I'm feeling good about our Sox (like I was a month ago looking at the Indians and Tigers above us and the Twins below us). The heat lost so I figured we're all in a good mood and sometimes it feels good to get these kind of things out there. Clear your conscious people and feel a new sense of excitement for these soon to be 2011 Central Division Champion Chicago White Sox! Statements - (1) The Cleveland Indians are for real (2) The Indians are really hard to beat at home that's gonna make them tough to catch (3) The Indians are legit (4) The Indians will be good next year (5) Travis Hafner is finally healthy they are dangerous (6) The Indians finally have some pitching (7) The White Sox are done (8) The Red Sox are done (9) The White Sox are too far back this time (10) We can't make up all those games on the Indians AND Tigers (11) The Detroit Tigers are good (12) The Tigers are one of the best teams in baseball (13) Our pitching blows (14) Send (X player other than Juan Pierre) on the first train out of town (15) Lillibridge sucks (16-10,000) Any of the many silly things I missed regarding the Tigers, Indians, Red Sox, WHite Sox, or chubs. I'll start it off because I am guilty of (15) and never believing in Lilli. Dear Rowand's Rowdies, JJ Barea. That is all.
  9. Was there today. Danks looked good. Made a few mistakes but otherwise strong quick and confident. Thornton got screwed out of a K otherwise he gets out of that inning clean. carter looked good. the kid at the end threw heat. flowers had a nice day, danks2 had a few nice hits but looked lost in cf. viciendo looked real good again but not in the of. beckham looked real confident. rios looked comfortable. de aza looked decent. dallas mcphereson is terrible.
  10. was at the game...sadly. they look awful, but it is early. the offense has no rythm but i have yet to see beckham rios or konerko in the 2 games ive seen. hope to see more than 1 run tomorrow v the rockies. ive seen 1 run in 14 innings ive watched our offense. i havent been able to stand 9 innings of it in either game yet.
  11. Yep this is my 3rd spring training living in tempe az, i see about 5-7 sox st games each year. the angels stadium in tempe is pretty nice decent crowd today, but ya, peavy looked great. get excited.
  12. I was literally the closest person to Peavy other than the sox coaches watching him warm up in the bullpen. He seemed very comfortable and was working on his mechanics. His 2 innings of pitching spoke for themselves, he looked great. He will be starting the season in the rotation, I'll tell you that. I can't believe how few people were watching jake warm up. I couldn't believe it was 3 miles from my house I never thought I'd talk to Coop and be the only one watching jake warm up.
  13. i think the twins problem is a 2 headed monster. 1) managing - gardenhire keeps that team believing in itself, makes the right moves, and doesn't overdo matchups. he also values hustle players, and hustle helps you make the other team make mistakes, leading to lucky wins. 2) farm system - our examples have been sale and beckham, look how much they helped our teams when they joined. young players energize the team and when they play well, they can really help. the twins consistently bring up quality prospects and fill them in spots they need. they just out manage and out depth our sox, but sometimes talent trumps and we win the division and/or world series. they haven't even gotten to a world series, so ill take our team.
  14. great job on research. not saying youre gonna be 100% correct bc it's ozzie, so who knows, but that would be my choice. dont think hudson tanks it, i dont think thats really a possibility. were looking at a guy who should give us 5-7 innings of 1-5 run ball every outing. we get another hitter, we should be ok.
  15. choppa 2 hoppa what a beautiful play by (opponent inf/of), well (sox player) got robbed of (the outcome of what would of been the hit). 99.9% of the time thats a hit.
  16. Im posting this here bc the bhawk message boards are pretty empty and uneventful for now. Who ya got as our starting lineup for 2010-2011 season? hossa - toews - brouwer versteeg - sharp - kane ladd - bolland - bickell beach - reasoner - kopecky (skille, dowell) keith - seabrook campbell - hjarmlesson boyton - derek morris (lalonde) niemi crawford i think we should be able to fit this within the cap if we demote huet to rockford. might be close and we may have to trade kopecky or reasoner, but i think if derek morris wants to have a chance to win the cup, hes already made enough money in his career to take a one yr 2 mil deal. thoughts?
  17. it feels like kw is simulating a season on mlb 10 the show and forgot he has williams on the team. he must have missed his blackberry alert that threets is healthy. its just rediculous that he is pitching in the majors. nice guy with a good story, but sorry buddy, you're AAA material at best.
  18. I'm gonna go with us getting #10 in a row with a 4-2 victory over the schlubs. Today is a huge game in the sense that it could be a streak killer. Not just as a well our winning streak is over, but in a "uh oh we really shoulda won that one" way. the cubs are playing horrible baseball, and just flew cross country overnight to play an afternoon game after a 13 inning game in seattle. these are the games you always expect to win easily, but usually lose. wish i had a stat on it, but it seems to happen all the time in general in sports. tired team has some extrodinary odds stacked against them bc of travel, and they win. if the sox lose this one, the cubs will build confidence and rest up and hope they can start a similair streak to ours and turn their season around. just trying to play devils advocate, but if we dont win 2 of 3 this series, its pretty safe to say our hot streak is over. we should sweep them, but in a series like this, you just like to win it.
  19. well i did the worst of anybody with a 19/25.... i forgot pablo, timo, politte, cotts, hermanson, and vizcaino.... i dont blame myself too much on those forgettables. how are brian anderson and frank not on this? not active? they were still on the team.
  20. jerksticks, im on board. i live in tempe, dont do websites but can definitely start some things here.
  21. what bull****, if this goes through, I may not go to any games other than sox ones, just to not pay for their new park, and I live in tempe and planned on going to 15-20.
  22. the cubs winning the world series? there is no f***ing way that is happening.
  23. and to get this back on white sox baseball, although staying in a negative light, i sometimes think we have cubs fans on this board pretending to be sox fans. at least that is what some of your baseball opinions show me. juan pierre is not the worst hitter on this team. period. you can throw all the stats at it all day long, but he will be a valuable member of this team, and at worst a disapointment at $4 mil a year, which isnt going to kill us. pods is one injury away from being done and one bad streak away from being back looking for a minor league job. not to mention he's 20 feet away from the fly ball about to hit the ground he misplayed. i love the guy and what he's done but im sure they gave him a reasonable offer to come back, and he decided to move on. what he took on the market now doesnt mean the sox didnt offer that much. look at what polanco got, if he signed now he might only get half that, and he signed about 2 months ago? if it's true that dye is looking for 3 million 1 year, then I say we take that route. i dont see him being through and he's perfect for the cell. he wants to play some field...earn it. you're gonna have to beat out some decent fielders, JD, so earn it. otherwise we've got a rotating DH. i ask this next thing for all sox fans who understand the game. please stop pretending that you know something because some computer stat system or projection method tells you something. the making of a successful team is much more complex than you think it is. let kenny and ozzie, who have more GM and managing experience than the rest of us will ever have, COMBINED, do their jobs and try to bring us another world series. go sox
  24. thanks joeynach for explaining that. you're absolutely correct. not sure why that is such a suprise to people to hear, but it always is. Truth is as much as people talk about sports and think they know what's going on and how it works, they have no idea. Here's most people's idea of how it works: Billionare Owners - Salarys (Players on the 25 man only) + Ticket and Sponsorship Revenue (which is way over valued) + Food and Beverage and Parking --------------------------------------------- = Lots of money for the owners if your team sucks, people just assume that the owners arent making money and that they should throw more of their money at the problem to fix it. Among other things, people never take into account front office salaries (from GM to scout to ticket rep to guys who pull the tarp), minor league salaries, spring training costs, travel, insurance, commission for sales reps, taxes, utilities, stadium costs, and a million other things. Running a sports franchise and making money off of it is a VERY rare thing. Unless it's the NFL, you might have 10 teams in the other 3 leagues that turn a mentionable profit. There are things like salary and stadium depreciation and tax shielding, dont get me wrong. The owners still find ways to make it beneficial, but these myths about how baseball economics work have gotta stop...
