  1. Rip off Pittsburgh like every other team does and get Hannahan before detroit does.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 10:29 AM) There's no way I'd give Uribe much more than the league minimum, and that would be on a non-guaranteed contract. There are worse ways to spend $2 million - finding a random fan in the stands and giving him or her a $2 mill contact is probably worse - but not many. Actually if you did that as a promotional move throughout the year, that could be a cool idea. Give $2 million dollars out in fan contract money during the season at home games. $2,000,000 / 81 home games = $24,600/Game, roughly $25,000. How cool would it be if a team gave away 5 fan contracts per game to awesome fans attending. The contracts would sign them up as a white sox fanatic, get them a spot on the team website, and a $5,000 check. You honor 405 of your best fans and award them each with $5,000. That's a better way of spending $2 million dollars than signing Juan Uribe. I'll agree to that, and if that were something that happened I would make my way out there a bit more often...
  3. I mean the Dodgers are spending like crazy but I don't know if they are going to throw 7 mil away like that. He's only 33 and has had injury problems the last 2 years. A fresh start if he is healthy could be all he needs to return to form. Keppinger was a non tender last year and just got 3/12. $2 mil might be more than we want to pay, obviously if he is cut and we get him on a tryout basis is best, but since the market is thin someone will probably trade something for him if the dodgers eat all his contract to man 3rd in this thin 3b market. no?
  4. Former White Sox World Series Hero is owed $7 mil this year, LAD are considering releasing him per MLBTR We could get him for a low prospect if we take on $2 mil of it, which would be great for him. He fits as our backup 3b,SS,2B,1B, and a RH DH to platoon with Dunn. Brings World Series energy back to Paulie. Let AJP walk, trade Rios for Kubel and a pitching prospect. Trade Floyd for Salty and buy low on Melancon from RedSox. Brings our salary down under $100 mil with room to spare if we need to add in a much more competitive AL Central. Thoughts?
  5. Granderson for Floyd, Thornton, and Quintana? Let the Yankees add pitching and forget about the mistake they made by letting Quintana go and let them add bullpen help. We might get something else back in this deal, too. Thoughts?
  6. Can we live with whoever we can throw at 3b if we can land ellsbury? red sox are shopping him for pitching help... ellsbury and salty for floyd, thornton, crain, phegley, prospect, prospect any thoughts? he is a guy you build around esp with the idea of him at the cell....
  7. Kelly Johnson is a guy I would like to see. Not sure if he can play 3rd well, but watching him with the Dbacks, he is a great add to the lineup. He can lead off or bat 9th. Hits from the left side. Streaky as hell, but can carry the lineup when hot. Platooning him with a righty like Morel/FA/? could work, he is an injury risk. But if he gets 400 abs, he can hit .290/15/50 with half his games at USC. Not ideal 3b numbers, but we have the pitching to keep us in contention and theres always the trade deadline to get an impact bat.
  8. Fish tanks aren't cheap, boys. I own an aquarium company and those tanks are costing them upwards of $1,000/week for cleanings, $50,000 for the tanks themselves. And once things go wrong, which it will being that they are in a terrible spot and ugly as f***, the costs go up and up. How can they afford all those contracts with aquariums to upkeep! On a serious note, I think a lot of people are mad at this trade for the wrong reasons... The trade wasn't really unfair. I like the Marlins return. It's pretty fair for a bunch of overpaid players. Unless the Jays win a world series, I don't see this trade being a winner for Toronto. I would love to get the Jays haul for the WSox, but at what cost? Lot of $ for injury prone talent and MB. I don't feel bad for the players who signed big contracts and now have to move to Canada. They're called no-trade clauses, boys. You took extra millions so you didn't push for the no trade clause, oh wait now your taxes just went up a bunch. Rookie mistake by Reyes and MB, first time free agents signing away from their original teams. I don't feel bad for Marlins fans. You have won as many World Series championships in the last 15 years as Boston, San Fran, St. Louis and only trail the yankees. You have been through this before, and you usually win these trades. The worst marlins trade was miguel cabrera obviously, but otherwise for the most part their fire sales have added cheap young talent. May have cost them a WS or two, but who knows. I'm upset because the Marlins pulled a video game move. You need talent, you have a underperforming team. You go crazy in free agency only to trade them all the next/same year to bring in younger talent. It's a classic video game franchise move. I don't know if I've ever seen it this bad at the professional level. They even got the DBacks to take on $12 mil for 2 years of heath bell. I'm upset at the other GMs in AA and Towers for letting the marlins off the hook so easily and rewarding this tactic with top level prospects instead of lots of $ to make the contracts realistic and the marlins pay.
  9. I always thought it would be cool if you could use your ticket to enter a raffle for memorabilia or future tickets. Each game you go to enters you into a raffle where some memorabilia and tickets or suites are raffled off. What if you went to a game, used your ticket to enter a raffle with these prizes being raffled off for each game: - 30 Autographed Balls (one by each white sox player and coach there that game) - Cost - $240 ($8/ball) - 5 Autugraphed Bats used in batting practice - Cost - $250 ($50/bat) - 10 4 Packs of tickets to be used for future weekday games - Cost - $0 - 1 Suite for a weekday game (no food/drink) - Cost - $0 I think that would be an incentive for me to go to a game if I was wavering. What do you guys think?
  10. Let's be honest, is there really anyone on this team that you wouldn't trade for the right price except sale? i would hate to see PK leave but if Arizona gives us a good package I wouldn't even mind too much. Trade them all, lot of our players are at the peak of their trade value after an overachieving season. Don't bring back any of the free agents, minus maybe AJ, that guy can really play ball. Kenny is itching to make some moves, he didn't get to make any last season. I except major shakeups all over this roster.
  11. White Sox: 9 (9 games left) Tigers: 11 (9 games left)
  12. We are basically in a 7 game series with the Cleveland indians. But we have to win 5 games instead of 4. And if we don't win 5, Detroit goes to the playoffs. Is anyone here really confident we will win more than 1 game against Tampa? If we win 5 of 7 vs the indians, we go 6-4 and make detroit go 7-3 to tie us. Then we are in the playoffs technically, and if we can't beat Detroit in a one game playoff, well they earned it. I don't think Detroit wins 7 of 10. I give them 6-4 at best. What I really think will happen is we will go 5-5, so will Detroit, and we will get in with the 1 game lead. It wouldn't be pretty, but history doesn't care about pretty. Ask the St. Louis Cardinals. Twice.
  13. Sox win, Tigers lose. We go up 2 games tonight. Still worried about our chances but tonight should be fine. White Sox 5 Indians 2
  14. White Sox: 11 (11 games left) Tigers: 13 (11 games left) CWS (Floyd) @ LAA (Weaver) 2:35 MIN (Walters) @ DET (Smyly) 6:05 Go Bears.
  15. If we can't beat 2 of the worst pitchers in the AL in Chen and Guthrie, despite our past against them, we don't deserve to play in the playoffs and face actual good pitchers. We lose tonight, we are in trouble. We win tonight, Detroit wins, we are 50/50 imo. We win tonight, Detroit loses, we have the edge, albeit slight. I gotta think someone will step up and we crush Guthrie, but Liriano keeps it close, bullpen shuts it down. 7-6 white sox
  16. real big run at 3rd. we score that, i expect to allow a run, we win 6-5
  17. Myers! So, all the people that said they didn't want Myers because of his past...what now? Would you of have Thornton come in and give up his typical 3 runs and be down 7-5? Would you of rather had Crain come in and allow his typical 1 run in a clutch situation and have it 5-5? Thanks kenny!
  18. Great idea and well executed. Your writing is just fine, grammar is overrated. If I were you, I would look for the publicity greg mentioned, then start making sponsorship calls! Get yourself some ad $ for your site and work. Keep up the good work! I would also start a twitter acct if you have not already and grow your following.
  19. Hudson is going to need tommy john, and was completely useless this year. this trade wasnt as bad as we thought...
  20. ...and if he and/or the White Sox suck in a month, we can trade him to a contender at the deadline for more than stewart/lilli anyway. someone will be more desperate than us in mid/late june. especially a team who can't add much payroll looking for a bat, he will be almost free in a month... stewart won't make it in the AL in my opinion. he's a guy who in the right situation could be a #4-#5 or ok middle reliever in the NL. ceiling of a nick masset, floor of well...awful. lilli is replaceable as a AAAA player. not a starter. why not.
  21. The Cubs are trying to trade him, obviously. It appears (correct me if I'm wrong) that his contract is for this year and 2 more years @ $19/year at a total of 3 years $57 million. The Indians are apparently discussing him. We know KW gets his man eventually and has had a chubbie for that cubbie since his yankee days. And he likes to block his division opponents from getting a helpful piece (see ManRam, Mig Cabrera as polar opposite examples). He does suck for the most part, but could be a useful hitter down the stretch IF he is hot at the right time. He would platoon well with Dunn against some tougher lefties and could play a game or two in the OF to spell Rios or Viciendo (assuming rios is not the trade piece). I guess I could deal with him taking Rios' spot if we saved $ to use on a better 3b or SP. My questions to you are 1) What's your creative trade proposal that makes sense for both sides? 2) Would you even want Soriano as a White Sox player this year and two more? 3) Whats an acceptable salary for us to pay him (out of his $19 million)? My thoughts are Rios for Soriano and cash (little over half his salary leaving $9/year for us plus savings on Rios). We also land a decent prospect I would think for taking on some $. If we can save the couple million this year and the next two to help in other areas, then clear Rios' $ for the next two years, I might be able to swallow the switch from Rios to Soriano (I don't like either player). Also, what about a John Danks and Alex Rios to Cubs for Garza and Soriano? Any thoughts on something there? I would pay him $9 million/ year ONLY if we get Rios off the books. I wouldn't want to pay Soriano more than $7 million per year without a bad salary going the other way I'm not suggesting it either way, so don't kill me for that, just trying to see if there could be something there.
  22. Sox will have more than 2 all stars for the first time since 2006 when they had 7. SEVEN. That is not a typo. Without looking it up, who can name the 7? Your hint is that 2 of them still play for the White Sox.
  23. Anyone else expect us to get a big time sp? I'm thinking Greinke for a package of Floyd, Mitchell, spect, spect
  24. No women that haven't earned it on my sports network Steve. Just like there should be no know nothing douches like skip bayless or loudmouths like Stephen a smith. Why do I even watch ESPN...
  25. Be careful what you wish for... ESPN got rid of a lot of old timers and replaced them with what....women! Is anyone else tired of watching sports shows on ESPN networks that are 33%-67% women? They even have women commentatorsbasketball and college football. I'm not talking sideline reporters. I'm talking color commentators and lead journalists. Now there are some great women sports journalists that earned it. Jackie mcmullen, jamelle parker, and linda cohn come to mind, but the equal rights bs has to go. There is no way most these young women sports journalists have earned to be where they are at. But they have a better chance being attractive women. Totally unfair and total selling out by ESPN. Anyway I know were not going to replace hawk with a woman but still I agree that unless the replacement is a rare talent, were better off with hawk.
