  1. if anyone is coming down for spring training, feel free to pm me, i live down here and know the ropes. also, since im pretty broke right now, all free STs can be donated to me!
  2. I have a cell phone pic of Beckham with his #80 jersey right before his first HR with the Sox in ST in the batter's box. I called it, it was in the 9th inning of the opening day in the new dodgers/sox park in glendale. anyone want it for any reason, its still on my cell.
  3. "If Rios was a FA in this market, I bet he'd get at least 60/5 simply because hes entering his prime. The Mets offered Bay 65/4... I'd take Rios any day over Bay." -scotty 2 hotty Great point about the FA market, although I would rather have Bay than Rios. I don't think Rios gets 60/5 right now, no way, but he might get a 3/30, so really we are not overpaying by too much. He will be fine, at one point San Fran was close to trading Linsecum for Rios straight up, so there is tremendous value when, not if, he rebounds. He's 29 and going into his prime, he will bounce back to be at least a top 10 CF in baseball immediately.
  4. haha after a bunch of people complaining the guy edited it and added Peavy. proof of the east coast bias.
  5. ya, why not. 3/18 isnt that bad for him even.
  6. come on, it's kenny. we will add another big name bat somehow. and for all the anti-ozzie talk, he should be our manager as long as he wants. i'm not sure anyone we can ever bring in will be that much better and i for one love having his as my manager. let's also not forget that he is a young manager that should be learning and getting better every year.
  7. i actually like him for DH, this guy can hit. he strikes out, but so did jim and so does every power hitter. if he can come for maybe torres, mitchell, and a mid level spect, i love it.
  8. some good arguing back and forth with some good arguments. i'm not sold on him as our only DH option, but a great piece to have. the cubs are a terrible org and have used him terribly. i dont know about you guys, but in last year's crosstown classic, he scared the s*** outta me, and hit the ball hard every at bat. of course the cubs, being the cubs, didnt play him very much. jon garland didnt get much of a chance there... lou doesnt like young players, so thats why he never got much of a chance. for him to get what he did was a positive sign. i think we tend to worry too much about position. they are all major league baseball players. if push came to shove, most of them can play some position, and being in the AL, we always have DH to fall back on. i dont think fox takes too much to acquire. the cubs are terrible at evaluating trades, so we could prolly unload a couple mid level prospects to get him? I really have no idea. a power bat for the sox, no matter what, is always a good add. injuries happen, the bench is never good enough, and when the guy has played 5 positions (RF, LF, C, 1B, 3B), no matter what the time spent there, shows some versatility. if he can't start, welcome to a bench of viquel, kotsay, jones, flowers, and fox. that'll work.
  9. rumor has it he is available, he has always impressed me and with some time at dh and rf (although his D is bad, it's no worse than dye) he might rake at the cell. he is pretty young, too i think. what do you guys think it would take? he could help us fill a power void for a while.
  10. i don't see a lot of other good ideas. as I said in the first sentence of my first post, I'm NOT for it. just throwing an interesting thought out there. for all you know it alls, what's your answer to our DH/RF? and another old guy came back and made a vikings team older... * *i hate that man with all the hate in the world, even more than bonds, just for the record
  11. OK, First off. I DO NOT LIKE BARRY BONDS. I don't really want him on the White Sox. I don't think it will work out. BUT let's play devil's advocate. We have a DH Spot to fill and need a power hitting lefty. We've gone the Jim Thome route, and although he said he wants to come back, will he? Does Kenny want him back? I say Yes, bring back Jimmy. Not as an every day DH, but what a nice PH option and a guy who can start against righties. But let's say we don't. Last year, a team stuck with it's arrogant, team cancer, steroid user named Alex Rodriquez. Some people (even non Yankee fans) got off him as soon as he started to hit. Even more when he hit in clutch situations. The crowd still came, the people still cheered, and they won a WS. We just signed a guy in Andrew Jones who has been speculated to be a steroid user. Do the fans really care that much anymore? Are we all just tired of it enough to let it go? NOW let's look at Barry Bonds: POWER - Check FIT AT THE CELL - Check WALKS - Check Because of his situation, we can prolly sign him on a highly peformance basis. Maybe $5 mil base with up to $5 mil more in incentives? The jersey sales would be huge and it would sell tickets, like it or not it would help the White Sox bottom line at the right price. For those of you that are educated, you know that steroids, even prolonged use, will only add at most 10% on distance of batted balls. When the guy is hitting 420 foot dingers, those liners make it out by plenty anywhere in US Cellular even w/o steroids. If not, they are gapers or off the wall. He will clearly be off steroids and will have to be tested publicly to get back in. If he does that, is he somewhat clear and given a fresh slate? Beckham - 2b Ramirez - SS Quentin - LF Bonds - DH Konerko - 1b Rios - CF AJ - C Teahen - 3b Pods - RF (OR HOPEFULLY A BIG PICKUP) There is some pop in that lineup, and with a solid bench of Flowers, Kotsay, Jones, Viquel, I like it. Just need a big move for RF and a nice subtle bullpen pickup and I really like this team.
  12. Well how would you say a singular bears player? "Hester is my favorite bear." Then you would be saying Hester is an animal, not a football player.... Come on. Who the fock cares? Man, we need baseball again. Someone start fake rumors (I'm talking to you, Bruce Levine) or something already. P.S. How is this still in Pale Hose Talk? I've had threads that were 3% non baseball related and they were moved within 5 minutes of me posting it.
  13. i keep worrying every time I see a ball almost go in the stands that we are going to have another bartman. most of our fans seem to do a good job staying somewhat out of the way but I say we take it into our own hands and teach the front row people to get out of the way for foul balls hit by the opposition can we create a flyer and have it on the front row seats? i just think it may help us win a game at some point, you never know when this could come in handy. anyone want to take this project on?
  14. why not? let poreda go back down and start a game to get ready to take over for richard (if he remains ineffective) or contreras (if he gets hurt) since Colon is mia. If we add him to our pen, and he gets anywhere near where he onced was, we could have the best pen ive ever seen.
  15. come on getz, make a clean play. the youngsters look rattled out there defensively. Does anyone else think beckham and getz are twins (not the min type)?
  16. Sox lose 2 of 3 to KC, score 5 runs. Twins come in, our archest of rivals. Contreras pitching, expect anything. For some reason I am excited. Sox 5 Twins 4
  17. Ryan Sweeney Key Stats AB HR AVG RBI R SB 14 0 .429 2 2 1
  18. It' early and I don't want to sound like a frontrunner, but this is f-ing rediculous. The 1st two spring training games I went to, they scored 1 run, in the 9th inning of the 2nd game. Now this. Hit like you can, boys. THis is embarrassing, for you.
  19. agreed. we know wise's ceiling, and it's not high. BA needs to get a chance to play almost every day. let's see what we have. we know what we have in Wise. A 5th OF. NOT A 4TH OF. Just put BA in center, accept the s***ty ABs, and give him a day off once in a while against righties. He will save us some runs in center, if nothing else.
  20. I wouldn't worry too much about CQ, he was on and off in Spring training. He hit an opposite field HR against the As to deep left center, when he jammed himself, about 415 feet. He, just like Alexi, are warm weather hitters. Give them time. The majority of out hitters are power hitters, and it takes some time for them to get in rythm in real games. Always does. Only exception I've seen is Junior, who hit his 8th opening day HR in his career the other day for the Ms.
  21. Great point, SSI. We all know how to pitch him and get him out. Just don't leave anything up and over or inside. You'll get him every time with a low and away pitch w 2 strikes.
  22. Sox win 6-2. Floyd gives us 7 strong, 1 run. Ramirez, Quentin, and Dye give us the offense with their 1st dingers of the year.
  23. Crede is an interesting situation. He was the MVP of the WS, in my mind. He was a favorite of most Sox fans, although he never really did reach his potential over the course of an entire season. He is the best fielding 3B I remember the Sox ever having, I'd take him over Robin and Hank Perry (had to include him). It was Field's time, and that's something Kenny has been waiting for. For some time. He liked Crede, but it seemed like he knew that his back problems were too irratic. Crede never gave the Sox the commitment they were looking for, AKA getting rid of Boras. Boras is like the girl you are going after's best friend who hates you because you called her a name. She never forgets and constantly talks you down. He also SOUGHT out the Twins. The Giants wanted him, and he could have gone with his old friend Rowand, but he sought out the Twins, most likely to spite the Sox at least a little. So, my ruling on it is this. Joe shall get a standing O when his name is announced in the lineup, pre-game. Once he steps up to bat as a Twinkie, go ahead and give him the 2nd standing O. After that, he should be booed, because he chose to go sleep with the enemy. We just need to make sure we are classy and not trashy like Cleveland. Establish the respect and ovation, then boo the man for his decision, or just don't react if you don't want to boo.
  24. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Completely agree. Wise has good speed, is some-what clutch, and has some pop in his bat. His D is decent as well. I personally don't mind him as a platoon player in CF batting 9th. However, I'd prefer to see Anderson as the main starter getting around 60% of the playing time. Yea, we didn't start Timo Perez and let him hit leadoff...but he was a nice 5th OF.
  25. Well, hindsight is always 20/20, but this lineup is rediculous, Ozzie. Wise at leadoff, fine. He's already struck out twice, swinging, in 2 ABs, but whatever. Getz 2nd, while Alexi is batting 8th? Fields 9th? What is going on with this? I love ya, Oz, but come on!
