  1. I've seen Briggs, Dye, AJP, Rowand, Uribe down here in the last month. All were cool, I just say hello and Go Bears/Sox, or thanks in the case that they were a part of 2005. I think you have to just approach as a quick hello, don't bother them with autographs or pictures. They don't owe you anything. If you make a lot of money, do you owe people your time and attention? They are just people like us...
  2. I'm all for BA being on this team as a 4th OF/defensive replacement. Hell, go ahead and give him some starts, he's awesome defensively and could put up a .250/15/40 line if he gets 400 ABs IMO, but for the love of everything DO NOT put him leadoff. Ozzie won't do this, because a 3 pitch KO isn't what we need to jumpstart the offense every game, which is what will happen at least 50% of the time.
  3. He just seemed to have the cubs hitters missing badly, I was in the bleachers in left field for this one, so my view was not the best, just seemed to have a slower garland like delivery to me.
  4. Marquez looked good against the Cubs, I was there. He's got a strange delivery that looks like it fools hitters. Almost like they expect him to throw faster. Then again, that's usually how the Cub's hitters look - fooled.
  5. thanks ginger. the traffic on camelback was backed up for a mile or so, not too bad, but still why I veered off into the "parking lot" when I saw it. It was indeed a trap. For all the police in the area to make sure traffic was ok, none were right across the street at this lot when it was filling up. The lot to watch out for is next the the CVS, kitty corner from the ballpark. It's a huge open lot, probably 5 acres wide. I asked a cop (Phoenix, which is who gave me the ticket) about it and he said with a smirk that they can't put no parking signs on every open lot. Well, how about the one right across from a brand new stadium where there will be out of town visitors? Oh wait, no revenue from huge parking tickets. It is becoming a joke here. I live in Tempe (South east valley) and my 25 mile drive to glendale (north west valley) included at least 10 speed cameras. They are desperate for money, and as far as I'm concerned, they are finding ways to legally rob it's citizens.
  6. Well, a lot of support from my fellow Sox fans. Just like the support the Sox got at the park yesterday (outnumbered 10-1) and Saturday (at least 10-1). At least I was there supporting the team 10 rows behind the Sox bench. Anyway, this doesn't relate to US Cellular at all. This is glendale, AZ, not Chicago. Glendale is mostly open land. When going to my first game in a new area, I look for places further away to park to get out easily. When I saw 50 cars parked in a wide open dirt field (which out here are the parking lots), I figured it was fine. This was the grand opening of the field, not a place I've been to ten times. Either way it doesn't matter, just trying to warn all of you so you don't get robbed. And sure, maybe I should have been given a ticket. Does $135 at this time in our economy seem like a fair penalty? A $26 ticket would have been more appropriate.
  7. I went to the game today, lot of fun, beautiful facility. Anway, just wanted to warn everyone about something that happened. If you are going to the game, DO NOT PARK on the dirt lot next to the CVS. There are no signs, but it is in walking distance of the park around 107th and Camelback. When I arrived, there were about 50 cars parked already. No signs were there, no cops, nothing. I figured it was free parking, something some spring training sites have and a Glendale thing with the Cardinals and Coyotes. When I got back to my car, every car (over 100 now) had a ticket for $135. This is flat out robbery by the Phoenix Police. I asked a cop on my way out, and he just said "you shouldn't have parked in a open field. We dont need to put up signs in every open lot." Well, you do when it's right across the street, a huge open area, and on the 1st day of a new park. I emailed the facility about this, and hopefully something happens, but just wanted to throw a warning out there.
  8. I've seen that a few times, if those were his stats (I didn't check), that sure doesn't match up. But, I still do like platooning him with BA more than Owens/BA/Wise. Wise is a nice 5th OF, and Owens is a AAA solid starter/pinch runner. Plus, WE NEED WILLY!
  9. WILLY HARRIS! He was one of the highest valued players last season and most underpaid (worth $14.7 million, gets $1.5). He knows and likes the Sox, has speed, can hit, is a lefty, and scored our game winning run in 05. Washington has a glut of OF/1B (6 for 4 slots), and that doesn't even include Willy (mlbtraderumors.com has an article on this). So, he is definitely the odd man out. He should be able to be had for a medium prospect or two? So, let's trade one of our bum CF options (I say keep BA, but his trade value may be higher than Owens) for a medium prospect, use that and one of ours to get WIlly, and you have a speedy leadoff guy who hits lefty and plays CF. Go ahead, tear it apart, but you know you like it better than what we have now!
  10. Let's see if we can call Kenny's move. I don't mind going into the season with 1 starter slot open, but 2 is too much. Luke Hudson was released from the Royals - He was a top prospect once? Can Coop fix whatever is wrong with him, I don't know the situation? Daniel Cabrera - If non-tendered, Kenny will be very excited Chad Gaudin - Solid #4 or #5 in my eyes...might be non-tendered by Cubs. Any other Kenny type pitchers out there?
  11. if you consider his effect on the clubhouse and the fun this team is having, plus the fans that love him, well worth it.
  12. Hats off to Javy, only 66 pitchers have ever thrown more strikeouts than him....ever. He will be passing the next 5 by the end of the year.
  13. The Group formerly known as the Rowand's Rowdies, now the Dirty Thirties, would like to add our thoughts into this. As far as Beast goes, this is a very easy diagnosis. He has NEVER BEEN DRUNK Plain and simple. It's like saying you don't like ice cream before you try it. Or that people that get into fights are pussies when you haven't been in one. If you haven't tried something (short of certain drugs), don't rip people for doing it. Alcohol is the cause, but also the solution to many of life's problems as the great Homer Simpson once said. College is not all about learning from books and professors. It's about learning about life. Learn about other people, who you like, who you don't. It's about eating ramen noodles and barely affording books and finding a way to go out to the bar. You are 19, you are young. If you think just because it's illegal until you are 21 it is wrong, you are wrong. How many kids under 21 go fight and die for the country? How many under 21 year olds are given credit cards to abuse? How many are given excessive loans? They can smoke cigarettes, which are, and many times are worse. You, sir, are the Donatello of the Turtles. You need to be more like Mike. If you try drinking and don't like it after a few times, be the designated dave. We all need one of them. And we will pay for your food when you drive us to Taco Bell on the way home. Peace.
  14. the additions of Swish and Quentin along with O-Cab really are exciting. Add them to a core of Thome, Konerko, Dye, Fields, and AJ and that is some pop in the lineup.
  15. Fock you guys. Keep on living like sheep. "he has good ideas, but he stopped being relevant about 60 seconds after he opened his mouth." not to compare him to Jesus, but to a lesser degree there is a correlation.
  16. Ron needs asked for a $5 million dollar boost before February 5th. He is about 4.4 million away. Donate today, February 1st (his 51st anniversary to his wife) to help the cause! He will not be silenced! www.ronpaul2008.com By the way, welcome Fred and Rudy supporters who are joining us! You are certainly smart enough to look at Ron's views and join our cause for freedom!
  17. The more I think about it, the more I think this is going to happen, and quite possibly for Cain. I think it will be Crede/Anderson/mid level prospect for Cain. We will be able to get Cain partially because of the great relationship Crede and Rowand have, and SF knows that. Bringing in one of Rowand's best friends would help the transition, maybe? If they do, I will go from hating the Giants to liking them quite a bit.
  18. If there was no IRS and income tax, the income of the federal government would be at the year 2000 levels. If we cut our spending on frivolus spending such as, I dont know, building an empire or the department of education, we should easily cut back to that. Imagine if you had not just a small tax rebate check, but ALL of your federal income tax back. The economy would be fixed THE NEXT DAY. Who understands this? RON PAUL. Check him out.
  19. bye bye masset hound, those 94mph gems belt high and high and over the fence will be missed, by everyone we play. our bullpen could be pretty good boys. Logan and Thornton as lefties, Mac and Dotel as Set up, and Linebrink and Wasserman as the guys who come in to help out Danks and Floyd. Jenks is Jenks. If 3 of the 7 have above average years, 3 of the 7 have average years, and 1 has a below average, were still looking at a top 10 bullpen.
  20. I don't know, I don't really see much of a drop off there. Konerko won't get rest every series, and this way you can set them to go against LHP or RHP. Thome and AJP can't hit lefties; Crede, Kong, Fields, and Swish Kill them. Why not give big Jim a rest and keep him positive instead of an 0-3, 1BB, 2 K day vs a tough LHP? Keeps him healthy, too. I guess that's more what I'm saying than put in Ozuna 3 times a week. Why not get use Crede, Ramirez, Hall, and Uribe to spell Thome, AJP, and Richar some?
  21. I like the optimism, guys. And the thought of dogs and brews at the park on a warm summer day. I'd go if the sox were 0-50 at this point. Winter sucks. Anyway does anyone like the idea of keeping what we have (maybe adding a starter low risk high reward) and shuffling players around a lot? It's not usually something major league clubs try, but why the hell not? last year we were forced because of injuries, but we didn't have this depth. let me show you what I'm thinking. Vs. RHP Day 1 (not of season, just a normal series) Cabrera - SS Swisher - CF Thome - DH Konerko - 1B Dye - RF Fields - 3B AJP - C Quentin - LF Richar - 2B Vs. LHP Day 2 Cabrera - SS Swisher - CF Crede - DH Konerko - 1B Dye - RF Fields - 3B Quentin - LF Uribe - 2B Hall - C Vs. RHP Day 3 Ramirez - CF Swisher - 1B Thome - DH Dye - RF Crede - 3B Fields - LF AJP - C Uribe - SS Ozuna - 2B Those aren't for sure, and Richar should be playing 2/3 but I left it just to show the possibilities. We've got lots of options, look at our multiple position players (to varying degrees, I know Fields isn't great in LF, etc.) Ramirez - CF, SS, 2B Dye - RF, 1B Swisher - OF, 1B Ozuna - 2B, 3B, LF Fields - 3B, 1B, LF Uribe - SS, 2B I'm sure I'm missing some. Any thoughts? It would keep players healthy and rested. The starters would get 5+ games a week still.
  22. no way. not that my suggestion of weaver is any better, but I can't stand Freddy allowing singles to become doubles with his slow time to the plate. most people on this board could steal off of him.
