QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) More minutes for John Scott means more minutes of BAD hockey for the Blackhawks. Seriously, if Scott takes up most of Brian Campbell's minutes, the Campbell trade suddenly becomes a bad move. That's the ONLY WAY the Campbell trade could become a bad move. That's clearly not going to happen.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) From Rotoworld via the Sun-Times Where do I barf? Scott had nothing last year, absolutely nothing. It is not a stretch to say he was the least talented NHL player in 2011. He's fine I suppose as your 7th defenseman, but under no situation should he see more playing time. The day I start listening to Rotoworld in terms of whether the Hawks are going to use Scott as the 4th/5th D-man is the day I shoot myself.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 12:41 AM) Ok, did some more roster analysis. Here's another scenario: Resign Frolik, sign Laich, Ehrhoff, Sopel, Madden. Kane Toews Smith Sharp Laich Hossa Frolik Bolland Bickell Olesz Madden Kruger Keith Seabrook Hjalmarsson Ehroff Leddy Sopel I like Smith on the top line with Kane/Toews as I've mentioned before. He simply play smart and has great positioning. Laich centering the 2nd line would be sexy. Frolik/Bolland/Bickell was a downright dirty line against Vancouver, and was fun to watch. Great two-way line. Olesz and Kruger bring you some toughness with talent on the 4th line and Madden will do his thing. The defense gets much stronger. You assume Leddy will continue to improve. 2/7 is what it is. Ehrhoff makes up for the loss of Soupy, but we also gain a big time shot blocker and tough guy in Sopel. Financially, this should all work too, unless Laich or Ehrhoff asks for considerably more than expected. Madden and Sopel should come cheap and I don't think Frolik could command THAT much unless someone offer-sheets him. In that case, we still have Morin waiting in the wings. Let's aim high and say Laich and Ehrhoff 5 each, 3 for Frolik and 1 each for Madden and Sopes, that's about 700k over what the Hawks have to spend, so it could be a possibility. I don't abhor your ideas, but I do genuinely think we have to ask how much Madden could possibly have left in the tank at this point. Also, there's a very real chance that McNeil could be taking up 3rd Lind center immediately. This would bump Bolland to that checking line if we are indeed intent on improving our #2 center position from the outside. I also have to imagine t(of pray) that Beach contends for a spot on this roster; we very well might see some youth movement here. If that's the case, I expect Kaberle to be signed as the Hawks focus on defense, along with the aforementioned center upgrade (again, the more I read the less likely Richards sounds. I think the hawks can't afford a deal similar to the Campbell one they just dropped). This will all be hhighly entertaining.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 06:04 AM) My god... Stan Bowman.. Now extend Sharp, re-sign Frolik and get us a vet, physical defense-man to pair with Leddy or Campoli if re-signed (Wiz please. ) or Ehrhoff if Hawks don't feel Leddy is ready for a top 4 role. Just say no to Wiz.

However, sober Steve would like to point out that I was all over the Asik pick and thought it was brilliant. I am however very disinterested in anything Bulls that doesn't feel like a win-now move, even if there won't be a season this year! -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) WTH? Who said Juan needs to be shot? I did. I already posted it was over the line a few pages back, though.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 02:00 AM) I don't understand this at all. I'm not angry at all, nor am I yelling. You obviously haven't the slightest clue about anything that has to do with Mirotic. The Bulls must have traded for Asik a couple years back because they didn't have to pay him...even though he was a 2nd rounder, right??? You are stating your opinion as fact with no empirical evidence to back up ANY of your claims, all while admitting you know absolutely nothing about Mirotic. Well done. And to recap, I'm annoying, co-cheese?, mindless, captain douche, a martyr, Serbia's Fanboy AND on my high-horse. All that in a little over an hour. I'm impressed. drunk. bad. apologies to you, slav. I really have to hit the drinking thread more often, vs others. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 01:24 AM) Do whatever you want, buy you're the one spewing the hyperbole again. Andrea Bargnani is not that good. He shoots, A LOT, and doesn't do a whole lot more. But of course, you know FOR SURE that he has no chance of becoming Andrea Bargnani despite knowing nothing about him. Mirotic won the Rising Star Award in the Euroleague, something Andrea Bargnani once won. DraftExpress had him as the 7th best overall prospect in the draft. But I'm just silly for thinking he could be any good. I like the use of "hyperbole". That's quite original right now. Listen, we all get it. Your family hails from the great Serbia. Guess what? My family is from Germany. s***! 4 generations ago! OMG I is Dirk expert! Oh wait, no I'm not. Just like your amazing access to YouTube (exclusive? Nahhh) makes you nothing short of Soxtalk's Serbian fanboy. It is ok though. We all get it. You are angry and yelling and Lord knows I have been there and done that. At the end of the night, the Bulls took Mirotic simply because they did not have to pay him, and not because he could be anything like Bargnani, the former #1 overall (only because he was supposed to be similar to my family's countryman Dirk). So, seriously, get off your high horse and let's chat in half a decade. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 01:10 AM) Lol, ya caught me! I have no clue who Ilyasova is! Hell, I don't even know what country he's from, let alone his style of play. And Serbians? God knows I never talk about them! Silly me. I'll go back to my corner now and do some research on why Lebron James won't ever sign with the Heat. Effin' Christ. Google is fantastic. Listen, you are clearly captain douche when it comes to internet argument. Neither of us knows how good Mirotic will be, but I'd venture being better than Ersan f***ign Ilyasova is tough to do. Let alone being as good as Andrea motherf***ing Bargnani. Keep playing the martyr, and I'll just ignore the rest of your posts, k? -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 01:05 AM) Actually, I know quite about about Ilyasova, and made it a point to draft him on all my fantasy teams. And being that Mirotic is Serbian and I keep tabs on our players all the time, I actually HAVE heard of Mirotic. But feel free to try and assert your dominance here. FANTASY -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 01:03 AM) K, I'll go back to being mindless and annoying even though you haven't heard of Mirotic until Monday. Of course I haven't. I think 90% of the world hasn't. But guess what? I can watch YouTube on this new invention called the internet. You also, by the way, haven't heard of him. Sadly, you also knew little about Ilyasova before tonight, which is inexcusable, since he plays less than 90 minutes north of Chicago. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 12:59 AM) Ilyasova is also a banger down low and will back guys down. Those are things that Mirotic doesn't have in his game. At least not yet. Ilyasova doesn't back guys down. At all. And of course Mirotic doesn't have it yet. He's a youngster overseas and he chucks and grabs boards and averages under 8 ppg while doing so. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 12:51 AM) Have you ever heard of Nikola Mirotic before the last few days? How do you know that he stands no chance of becoming Bargnani? His game is the same except he actually hustles. He's a pure shooter. His ceiling his higher than Ilyasova. And it's ignorant because it matches what the definition of ignorant is. Ilyasova is a pure shooter. You are mindless. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) That's just ignorant. Ignorant? God, you are annoying. How is that ignorant? Ilyasova is a solid player. He's no All-Star, and sure as s*** no Bargnani (which Mirotic stands no chance of becoming). Ilyasova is a good comparison. Take it easy, co-cheese. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 12:32 AM) Wow. What a day. Getting 1st round value for Brouwer is a steal. I don't know much about Olesz, but his contract is $4 mil less/year and one year shorter so I'm happy. Maybe one of the true puck heads can fill me in as to what we can expect from him, if anything. Campbell was a solid player, and wouldn't be so hated if Tallon didn't offer him that ridiculous contract. Either way, he had to go, and its good to see the Hawks have some money to re-sign Sharpie (so I dont have to buy a new jersey) and make a few other moves too. Watching that draft and checking the 2011-12 schedule made me very ready for hockey season. Campbell also never would have been a Blackhawk had Tallon not offered him that contract. Let's not minimize what Campbell meant to the Hawks. He was the first post-Wirtz sign that s*** was changing, and he was a Champion. A STANLEY CUP CHAMPION, for the Blackhawks. The Hawks HAD to offer him that stupid money or else he'd have signed somewhere that was known to suck much less than Chicago at that time. But now it's time to really roll and get another Cup!

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 11:45 PM) This NHL season is gonna start before the Sox game ends. Accurate.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) Any chance at Jagr for the Hawks? The team already claimed no interest, as they should have zero interest. The team needs to think prime players... or Selanne!
-
I am in complete shock right now. I have no idea why Florida would take the Campbell contract off our hands other than the fact that they cannot attract big name FAs, but Campbell has declined rapidly and has a lot of 7 mill years left. This is simply an amazing gift and is going to allow the Hawks to greatly upgrade their roster and go after the Cup the next handful of years as a legit contender. I am stoked. We could go after the guy I think can make the biggest difference in Richards. However, I don't know if we can handle an 8-year deal at 6.5 mill like he wants. I'd like to see the Hawks extend Sharpie and figure things out after that. THIS IS SO f***ING AWESOME.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Brad Richards + Tomas Kaberle would be epic. Kane - Toews - Smith Hossa - Richards - Sharp Frolik - Bolland - Bickell Pisani - Kruger - Olesz Keith - Seabrook Hjalmarsson - Kaberle Leddy - Campoli Crawford Salak Cup time of that happens.

This is amazing news. Brouwer for a 1st and Campbell gone too?? Someone pinch me!!
