2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
Steve9347 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) While we're on the topic, all-underachiever team? For the purposes of this discussion, I'd limit it to the 90's on since that's what most of us are familiar with. I'm also going to leave out guys with freakish athleticism but no skills that were horrendous flops and concentrate on guys that were good but not consistently great. PG- Baron Davis (had the physical tools to dominate the PG position, but inconsistent effort and a lot of bad jumpers killed him) SG- Tracy McGrady (combination of size and skills beats virtually anyone I've seen, but WAY too many jumpers most of his career) SF- Vince Carter (too much coasting) PF- Derrick Coleman (I'm REALLY mad at myself for forgetting about him as he is the team captain) C- Rasheed Wallace (I guess. Does he count as a center? I can't think of a good one since they either tend to be good or useless) (dis) Honorable Mention: Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury, Glenn Robinson, Shawn Kemp, Chris Webber, Larry Johnson (not totally sure he was athletic enough, but people definitely expected more) Cousins on the same underachievers roster, I love it. It really depends on what you consider an underachiever. You have All-Stars on this roster, while I tend to want to put a guy who never amounted to s*** like Michael Olowakandi on there. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) LeBron has to be on that team at this point. Oh Lord, absolutely not, dude. -
Marlins interested in Ozzie Guillen (again)

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) I thought Ozzie should be fired for that awful start Why aren't you blaming Adam Dunn and Alex Rios!??!!?!??!! -
QUOTE (supernuke @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) He should finish his NHL career where he started it. I know it won't happen but it should. People here still love Teemu. His rookie year was so awesome.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 06:03 PM) Is it possible to grill badly? Some people get it, some people don't. I'm happy to be in the first category.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) WTF? Rangers manager Ron Washington - coke lover

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 01:51 AM) How long ago? Mine was a few weeks. But damn, the song upload understandably takes forever. Got my invite over the weekend. I started the upload around 4 yesterday, and just checked via the browser at work... 1,500+ songs in, 2,500+ to go. It might be done uploading them all by Wednesday.

McKeon's old-ass is back.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I personally think Thomas would be the ideal hitting coach for the White Sox. His being our hitting coach would require firing Greg Walker, which seemingly can never happen.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) Anyone watch falling skies? Have it on the dvr and look forward to catching it. I too have it on the old DVR.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) AV Club's scathing review of last night's The Killing. It is a pretty funny article, and pretty spot on for the most part. I like this part, because I laughed out loud at the exchange as well. The scene between Gwen and Linden, which actually had potential, was a dud. (“He was wet, soaking wet.” “What do you mean?” “Like he'd been in water.”)

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) AV Club's scathing review of last night's The Killing. For someone so concerned with writing, you'd think Meredith Blake would have a better understanding of grammar.

Oooo, or Brad Richards. He'd be a great fit on the 2nd line.

http://www.tmz.com/2011/06/20/jackass-ryan...t-pennsylvania/ Ryan Dunn of Jackass fame, in a car accident. He was hilarious. Oddly, I just watched a special on Jackass last night on MTV.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) Paper in Memphis floats a deal centered around Korver for May. I was like... "May"? Sean May? Who? and immediately pondered how the Grizz got him and why we'd want him. I see you meant Mayo. I don't see why the Grizzlies would do that, but yes, please. -
Sign Teemu Selanne.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 05:58 AM) Vince + Kobe or KG's work ethic and drive = a top 5 player ever. No doubt in my mind. Rasheed Wallace is another guy that comes to mind. He should've been a perennial MVP candidate with his size, length and skills. Bill Simmons signed this post. As for VC, he would not work on the Bulls. At all. He's basically, save one or two nights a month when he goes all-out, just a guy who pulls up for bad jumpers way too much. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) Verlander looks to be the best starter in the AL to me thus far. He's gone to a whole new level this season.

I'd say it's safe to assume we won't see Viciedo for a long-while. It would make too much sense.

I hate when they don't do these on the weekend. I greatly prefer the Friday-Saturday-Sunday day games. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 11:05 PM) You think so? From the article Krush posted...
-
How the f*** do they let us wqtch an entire season wondering who killed Rosie Larsen and leave us with a cliffhanger. I don't know what to think about it right now.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) As usual, don't let actual reality interfere with your hyperbole: Beckham last 28 days: .265/.351/.718 Perfectly acceptable for a 2B. 8th overall pick, 25, "sky is the limit", and that's the stretch of baseball you use to prove he's perfectly acceptable? A .718 OPS? I'll sell you my Beckham jersey (size M) on the cheap since you are still a believer.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) What are the chances that Ozzie takes parting shots at the Sox when he eventually goes? I'd put it around 80%. Ozzie won't. He'll say great things about JR and that'll be it... he'll leave it to Oney and Jr to throw that stuff around, and then be hired by another franchise swiftly.
