QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) Yeah, but that best ERA got them an 81-81 record, and Matsui has been on the decline for a few years now. Plus, pitching has never been an issue with them, it has been an offensively challenged bunch for a while. Willingham and Matsui werent going to come in and light the world on fire, and they certainly werent going to challenge the Rangers for the best offense in the division. Billy ball has failed for another year, and another manager bites the dust because of it Well you took care of that. Nice post.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) Wait a minute...You mean a manager was held accountable for the poor performance of a team that was expected to contend? Who on Earth thought the A's were any good?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) Kevin Martin is a better player to look at IMO. My legal department will be contacting you shortly for not citing my trademark on Kevin Martin = perfect Bulls fit.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Well there's that. Though we had a nice little run (relative to how bad we were from '99-'04) from '05-'07 and none of those threads came close to the amount of replies this one has. Derrick Rose is a lot more fun to post about than Eddy/Tyson/Kirk/Ben. And yeah, this was a total good/evil season... sadly the Bulls didn't pull it off.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) And in regards to the cat, f*** cats. They suck. Only someone who has never owned a cat and seen all of the personality and entertainment they bring could say something like this. I know you're trying to be funny, but f*** off on the f*** cats let em burn comment, eh?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) I don't know where else to post this, but I find it to be a disturbing indictment of our current culture... So, there is this huge wildfire burning in Arizona. Its a monster fire, burned like 400,000 acres so far, and keeps going. Approaching some towns now. CNN interviews a resident of one of the towns and his family, who are packing up a couple pickup trucks with everything they can fit to leave. Not everything fits of course. Their choices? --X-Box makes the cut, same with the dog --What doesn't make the cut and stays to burn: family photos, and the cat So... the X-box, easily replaceable, can go... but the irreplaceable family photos, and the LIVING THING, are left to burn? Seriously? WTF is wrong with people? Article F*ck people, seriously. My cats are my babies.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) Rumor has it that he was promised the Sox would draft him. I doubt that is true. If he were told that then the Sox would have drafted Ozney.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) Health is always the "if" with Carlos. I think that's part of it, but he's also a headcase. When Carlos is right, he's a top 10 hitter in the game. Sadly, it's very rare that he's both healthy and in a good place mentally.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) Serious question: If JP were released today is there a team that would pick him off waivers? I doubt it. And here Ozzie is starting him, no less. His most valuable asset was always his speed and he covered a lot of ground in the outfield and got to balls others wouldn't, but even that seems to be gone. He doesn't get on base enough and he can't steal even when he does. What's the point? If he were released someone would sign him to a cheap deal and put him in the minors and he'd definitely wind up in the majors again.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) Some of you guys seem to take this too seriously, but to each his own. Died last night in your book? He's not dead in my book. He's going to play every game basically. Ozzie said that less than a week ago. F*ck him, I'm done with him. Juan Pierre finally died last night in my book, and now I'm subject to seeing him get the most at bats of anyone on our entire roster the rest of the way out because Ozzie is a hard-headed idiot. That was in the post you quoted. You need to improve your reading comprehension skills.

Buddy in Dallas said reports are swirling that Caron Butler might be playing tonight.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) It would be fair to point out at this point that the Carlos Lee trade went a long way towards winning us our World Series title. It only got us Scotty Pods and allowed us to sign AJ and El Duque, among others. I hate, hate hate when people b**** about the C-Lee trade. It was great.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) My only issue with Simmons, both in his book and now grantland, is the excessive use of footnotes. I get that occasionally a footnote is a useful tool to provide a quick background on a topic that doesn't really fit with the article you're writing. But frankly, if it's not worth being in the article, it's not worth reading 99% of the time, and more often than not it really messes up the flow of the material. The footnotes are the best part about "The Book of Basketball". They are there for comedy, mostly. Oh man, they are hilarious.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) So... This is okay? http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/35778477/ns/...st-milk-cheese/ Disgusting.

The mental midgets are in trouble. Roberto Luongo is hilarious. Man, I really wish we'd have had Bolland for all 7 games. God, I miss Blackhawks hockey... hopefully they can make some solid adjustments this offseason.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) I love Bill Simmons's writing style. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:57 PM) Same here. That was a fantastic read. You guys really need to read "The Book of Basketball"... it was the fastest 700 pages I've ever read. I also recommend "Now I Can Die in Peace", even though it's Red Sox-centric, it's still many, many pages of BS. I've been waiting for them to launch Grantland since he and Klosterman (another great writer) started plugging it almost a year ago. Klosterman's article that went up today on why DVR'd sports are a fail is quite good as well.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 07:58 AM) The reason that Viciedo isnt up is that LF is reserved for a slappy leadoff type hitter. Ozzie has wanted that since day one. See the debacle that was Dewayne Wise leading off, simply because he LOOKED THE PART. Ozzie has made some bad moves in his day, but his insistence on a slappy, speedy leadoff hitter is killing us yet again.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) I loathe JP but plenty of guys defended his ass in a game thread the other night when I blamed him for his s*** baserunning. I defended him because it wasn't his fault that his field of vision didn't allow him to see a ball was dropped in the OF. However, last night Juan f***ed us yet again with his awful range in left field. F*ck him, I'm done with him. Juan Pierre finally died last night in my book, and now I'm subject to seeing him get the most at bats of anyone on our entire roster the rest of the way out because Ozzie is a hard-headed idiot.
