IlliniKrush replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
You have heard correctly, to say the least. -
I used to know who Skates was back in like 95/96/97 or so, he worked at the Barrington Ice Arena There aren't enough ads on the ice in that picture...

I've been such a die-hard fan for so long that nothing they do surprises me anymore -
I believe it was Jim Everett, and he was calling him Chris Everett

This is probably the only time i've supported Mike Smith. Classless act by the Hawks after it as well. ************************************************************ By Frank Porcelli (www.blackhawkzone.com) Date: 06/12/2004 In a move that the Blackhawks or the NHL failed to make public, the Blackhawks will be required to pay former General Manager Mike Smith the balance of his contract. The Blackhawks may have retaliated by firing a scout last week left over from the Mike Smith tenure with the Blackhawks, part time scout Brad Hornung, who is a quadriplegic. (Blackhawkzone.com) The Blackhawks fired former General Manager Mike Smith last year and then got petty and refused to pay him for the balance of his contract, citing some silly arguments about how Smith breached his contract by badmouthing head coach Brian Sutter to the local press. According to a report in Sunday's Boston Globe, Smith will receive every dollar owed to him that was left on his contract when he got fired. I haven't agreed with a lot of the moves that Smith made with the Blackhawks, but I was glad to see him win this round, as the Blackhawks were totally wrong in this situation. So I can imagine that the Blackhawks were pretty upset with having to pay Smith and may have decided to get even with Smith. The Blackhawks also made a change in their scouting department last week but didn't make this news public. I guess that they didn't want any more bad press this summer. The Blackhawks fired part time scout Brad Hornung last week or as the paper reported, kicked him to the curb. Hornung is a quadriplegic since having an on ice accident during his playing days in Regina, Saskatchewan. Hornung was hired during former General Manager Mike Smith's tenure. I remember seeing a nice story on CBC's the headliner about Hornung, which talk about his perservance, coping with the physical challengers and his being able to do his job using computer technology and not complaining about the bad luck that has come his way. So, I will leave it up to you to decide. Did the Blackhawks let Hornung go in retalitation for the Blackhawks having to pay Smith what was owed to him and let go another person from the Smith regime or did the Blackhawks cut a position due to the impending lockout. If you ask me, something sure stinks on West Madison Street.

I loathe the Canes Vince Bongiovanni, a pitcher on the Canes, went to my high school. I played with him on varsity when he was a Senior and i was a Junior.

I believe it's Herbstreit, doesn't matter though Corso is funny as hell though, and at least he's very knowledgeable. Gameday is amazing

May Prior throw 160 pitches to "save the bullpen," and may his arm fall off afterwards

Tommie Harris switches agents
IlliniKrush replied to moochpuppy's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
He didn't have as good a year as he should have last year, and now he's going to hold out? What a joke -
It does matter what we think, as we are paying customers as well. I am in favor of the mascot, don't get me wrong - but what you think about anything the organization does to affect your ballpark experience does matter.

A 19-year-old student at Northern Illinois just called up to Boers and Bernstein and said he would 'definitely' go over a 4 year old kid to get a foul ball. He said such things as "I have never got a foul ball and i've been to games for about 5 years" and "I'll climb over 3 rows of seats if i have to to get it" Boers and Bernstein gave him a chance to take it back, but he kept saying he'd do it for sure...and it didn't sound like he was joking

I'll watch a pre-game show that gives good analysis and not just rants and raves about who WILL win. I want to know what to watch for, what each teams to do, and why you think one team can come out on top. College Gameday in a nutshell.

I don't mind the Sox having a mascot. It is very common in the MLB anyway The Hawks having a mascot (Tommy Hawk), however, is a complete joke. I could go on forever about how much i am against that.

College World Series At Rosenblatt Stadium Omaha, Neb. (Double elimination brackets) (Best-of-3 championship series) Friday-Monday, June 18-28 Bracket 1 Texas (55-13) vs. Arkansas (45-22) Arizona (35-25-1) vs. Georgia (43-21) Bracket 2 South Carolina (50-15) vs. Cal State Fullerton (42-21) Miami (49-11) vs. LSU (46-17) ******************************* I watched a decent amount of the super regionals this weekend and was very entertained. I love the passion of college baseball. Any predictions? Texas is red hot right now, they destroyed Vanderbilt. Who's going to step up and knock em off?

Ya, friday's game was pretty foul. Crowd was out of it early on as well

Alright off the top of my head, the ones i've been to are: Old Comiskey 7 USCF 8 Wrigley 4 County Stadium 11 Miller Park 6 HHH Metrodome 14 Busch Stadium 10 Great American Ballpark 9 PNC Park 2 Shea Stadium 13 Fenway Park 1 Yankee Stadium 5 Veterans Stadium 12 Camden Yards 3 First off, it's hard to compare new parks to old parks. I'm only going to rank parks i've been to, since ranking others is kind of hard based on TV coverage and second hand stories. My favorite new park is PNC Park by far. I think it is a very beautiful ballpark, mixes in an old time baseball feel and a great backdrop. Camden was also very nice, especially considering it's a bit older than the other newer parks, if that makes sense. My favorite old park (and overall #1 if i have to compare all parks) is Fenway Park. The places just oozes history. You can really feel the nostalgia in that place. Nothing has changed a ton about it since it opened - unlike Yankee stadium. While still cool, it has changed too much. It felt like what unrenovated USCF used to be, to be honest. Fenway blows away Yankee Stadium in my book... Worst ones? I put Shea behind the Vet. Shea is AWFUL. Everything about it is just terrible, i hated it. Vet isn't much better at all; it's still terrible. I realize it's gone but it's a park i've been to so i thought i would still rank it. I was only at the Metrodome when i was 10, so it's hard to remember everything about it. I will put the Metrodome behind the Vet and Shea purely based on the fact that the Vet and Shea are open air stadiums, if that makes any sense. I think it does. ***This being said, i'm now going to rank the parks above, even with old and new parks mixed in. 1 is the best. And i'm going to avoid being biased during these rankings, because although i hate the cubs and their fans with a passion, Wrigley still is a nice, old ballpark (i love older parks). Please don't flame me for it just for the hell of it.

It was Jaret Wright... But yeah we didn't have good swings against him at all. I didn't realize he could throw 96, pretty good considering he was shut down for a while. If only Harris gets the bunt down in the 3rd inning...woulda been another run.

Ya, i left immediately following the game, that game was pretty pathetic. Good seeing Keith out there in his Borchard jersey, hope to meet some others as the year goes on Oh yeah, did anyone else become extremely annoyed with Pan-American night? No offense, but the music in between innings, etc was just overboard. I didn't feel like i was at a baseball game. lame.

I've read moneyball, and it was an excellent read. Like some people have said, it paints Beane as being God-like, but it's good nonetheless If you like high school football at all (or if you like high school sports at all), i highly recommend Friday Night Lights. One of my favorites.

Dirty program, trash players, talk trash to Illini before being smoked...now this **************************************************************** CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati basketball coach Bob Huggins was arrested Tuesday on charges he was driving drunk after visiting with a recruit. Huggins, 50, had trouble staying in his lane, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol when he was pulled over in the village of Fairfax, according to a police report. Neither Huggins nor the university had immediate comment. He was scheduled to appear in court later Friday. The police report said Huggins told the police officer that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. However, the police report said Huggins was unable to perform a field sobriety test, had slurred speech, red, watery eyes and staggered out of the car after he was stopped. The report said there was a strong odor of alcohol and vomit on the driver's side door. Huggins was arrested and brought to the village's police station, where he was picked up by his wife. The report said Huggins was unable to give a complete breath test. Huggins' arrest is the latest black mark on a program that has been trying to get beyond a string of player arrests and NCAA rules violations in the 1990s. The arrest comes less than two years after Huggins had a massive heart attack while recruiting in Pennsylvania. Huggins returned to coach the team in the 2002-03 season, not missing any time because of the heart attack.

Take your walks against Jaret Wright, that's all i have to say. You'll have a big inning handed to you.
