  1. Man, i bet this guy would love to have his question answered...
  2. I'd rather have me as a 5th starter than Colon for all that money.
  3. Texsox - How do the Oakland A's make the playoffs year after year?
  4. There's a difference in what you believe and what is fact, i guess I understand you want to win, but you have to use the reality of the Sox organization as a guide Right now it just looks like you are saying "Spend 200 million and win a world series" even if that's not at all possible. It is becoming a circular argument.
  5. If i can remember, i'll look for you, i'll be down in that general area I'll have a white Buerhle jersey on and sox hat
  6. I'll take last 5 years, WS and playoff berths
  7. The White Sox are not your classic big market team because the Cubs exist in this city. I don't know how often this has to be mentioned, but it's a HUGE reason our payroll sits at 60 mil or whatever and we don't/can't shell out 15 for Maggs for X seasons. We all want to win, but it's not our money we are shelling out to pay players. It's not our bottom line. There are things in life we cannot control. To say we don't care about the bottom line is all nice and dandy, but if the Sox go way in the hole, it could mean bad bad things for this organization. So in an odd way, we do care about the bottom line.
  8. What kind of scientific experiement was used to determine this? I'm not doubting it, just find it odd you have a percentage...
  9. It's not talk. Bank on no season next year Some will play WHA to simply play hockey They aren't going to come back to the NHL if it has a cap of 15 mil, WHA style.
  10. Joe Crede was on the Score this morning Bernstein: So how did the night off last night feel like? Crede: Well we won't have to use our 5th starter? A nice laugh was shared by all
  11. I know we've known this for a while, but if anyone had their hopes up, this should shatter them. Friday, June 11, 2004 ESPN.com news services TORONTO -- With the Stanley Cup Finals now securely in the rear-view mirror, the question still remains: will there be NHL hockey next season? Players association head Bob Goodenow says the answer very easily could be no. Goodenow, in Toronto for the NHLPA meetings, said the players remain firmly against a salary cap. The two sides have been at odds for the past 18 months over the issue of a cap. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and his negotiating team want a hard cap, while the union wants no part of it. Neither side is backing down as of yet. Is a high-stakes game of "chicken" on the horizon? "A salary cap is not going to be part of the plan going forward," Goodenow told Toronto newspapers on Thursday. "That means there won't be a start of the season and there may not be a season [at all] next year. We are not going to do a cap and we are not going to do a percentage of revenues. The owners set the scale of salaries for the players and that is the marketplace. It has always been that way for the past 75 years or so and that is the way we are going to go forward with it." There are no meetings planned between the NHL and players. "I'm optimistic we'll be able to get something done ... I'm an optimistic person," NHLPA president Trevor Linden told reporters. "I can't speak for the owners, but we're going to work hard as a union to try to avoid a lockout. We're going to try to get something done." Avalanche star Joe Sakic doesn't expect to have to attend an Avs training camp at the end of the World Cup of Hockey in September. "To me it just looks like Bettman doesn't want to start unless he gets everything he wants," Sakic told reporters. "So I don't expect hockey. We all hope [a new collective bargaining agreement] gets done, but to be realistic, I don't see it happening right now." If the season does not start on time, players certainly have other options. They can go to Europe. Or they can play in the newly formed World Hockey Association. The WHA announced Wednesday that it will begin play on Oct. 29 in at least eight cities. The Lightning's Martin St. Louis, who was awarded the Hart Trophy as the league's MVP on Thursday night, said it would be silly for him not to at least consider the WHA. "Sitting at home or making $5 million, it would be very tempting," St. Louis told The Globe and Mail of Toronto. "Obviously, I have to know where we were at as far as the NHL situation. But to be honest, I really haven't thought about that." WHA teams will have a $15 million salary cap, but a player such as St. Louis could make as much as $5 million as a team's top player. Initially, the WHA said that if a player signs a contract, he would have to play the entire season with his WHA club. But on Wednesday, a WHA official said the league will likely change the bylaw to stipulate two players per team would have the option of returning to the NHL if labor problems are resolved during the season. The new WHA will have franchises in Quebec City, Hamilton, Toronto, Halifax, Detroit, Dallas, Jacksonville and Orlando.
  12. I'm not patched yet either, but my application for IHSA is in the mail. Doesn't matter, though, it's never prevented me from getting a ton of games because the umping supervisor knows me well and has seen me ump numerous times. I make 50 dollars if i do it by myself, 33 if there are two of us. I'd say i'm by myself 90-95% of the time.
  13. I think a saturday or sunday in July would be worth a look...but i could go any day of the week that i don't have to ump
  14. I'll be there tonight somewhere in the box seats with 2-3 others
  15. Just ask around early on in the dorms, especially with girls. You may be able to snag more tickets. Also, look for trades if you don't end up with the bigger games, etc. I think there is a website where students post tickets for sale, you'll have to look into that IU
  16. Dee and Deron back to run things **************************** From ChicagoSports.com: University of Illinois guards Dee Brown and Deron Williams and former Proviso East standout Shannon Brown will tryout for the 2004 FIBA World Championship Qualifying Team. 24 players will compete for 12 roster spots and the U.S. team will play in the tournament in Nova Scotia from July 28-Aug. 1. Three teams from the eight-team tournament will advance to the FIBA World Championships in 2005. The U.S. won the gold medal in the last FIBA Championships in 2001. Dee Brown and Williams were members of the 2003 Junior World Championship team that went 7-1 and finished fifth. Brown led the team in scoring with an average of 17.3 points.
  17. Ya, just heard this listening to the Cubs game
  18. 7 different teams have gotten 10 hits consecutively, the record Cubs had 11 hits in the inning.
  19. The cubs are now up 11-0 in the 4th, all 9 guys just got a base hit in succession. I wonder how often that has happened in MLB history.

  21. They make you use that yellow stuff in the dorms of U of I, i haven't had any problems getting it off walls in my experience. Perhaps if it's left on for years upon years it could cause some damage i guess.
