I think a lot of people use the forums as a tool to portray themselves a certain way with no consequences. Ive never met anyone from any of these forums before so its hard to gage how some people are in real life but theres that occasional ass hat that you know is full of s***

I have a few friends who lurk but its mostly on the Bears board and when I show them some of the stuff in Slam and the buster they say it would be annoying to get into arguments with people you dont know over the internet.

If you thought the subprime mortgage crisis was bad...
DrunkBomber replied to StrangeSox's topic in The Filibuster
Ok, it was overwhelmingly agreed that the salesman and dealership were shady for at best assisting her in getting the car. However, what I keep pointing out is that we have no idea what was said between her and the salesman. For all anyone knows she told the dealer she made 6k per month straight up. She had 30k to put down so she wasnt exactly living in poverty. Look at that 30k like PMI on a mortgage. The more of your own money you contribute the less of a risk it appears you are to default. Im sure the lender would have laughed at her if she tried to buy the car no money down but who is gonna put down 30k on a lease and then not pay for it? Can you blame the lender for approving it? In the long run theyre gonna get the car back and are going to be able to keep the 30k and whatever payments she did make so maybe it wasnt a bad move on their part. As much as she had help making this mistake, she still brought it upon herself. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 08:18 AM) We would say she signed the contract, her fault. Ultimately the dealership lied about her income. Her lie wasn't good enough. But since she agreed to the first lie, she was open to whatever the dealership needed to do after that. There is no proof the dealership lied about her income. She claims she told them how much she made and that they agreed to change it together but how do we know thats true. She is desperate to give the car back so she will say anything that helps her case. She signed a contract saying she made that much so how do we know she told the salesman she didnt? The only way to prove it is if the salesman admitted it. Like I said before, nobody knows who changed the income on the second contract so how is the dealer all of a sudden committing fraud when for all we know she changed it. There would be no reason for the dealer to need to change the income if she was already approved at 6k. If youre so concerned about her why dont you contact the news outlet she used and make a donation to her? -

This is also only her side of the story and she is the one who went to the media for sympathy. For all we know she might have told the salesman she made 6k a month just to get the financing done. She also might have told the dealer, "I dont care what you put on the loan app, I want this car." There is even the chance that she is the one who doctored the application being shown. If she walked out of the dealer approved at 6k what would be the purpose of changing it later? Its not like the lender changed their mind an hour later so they had to change it and reapply, thats not how that works. Just like going to the press that could have been another measure to get rid of the car. As a lot of people keep saying, she knew EXACTLY what the monthly payment was and she agreed to it. She wanted the car, they leased it to her and she knew how much it would cost each month and that never changed. She signed the contract saying she would pay X per month so its her responsibility to read it and sign it. There is no law of ethics at a car lot and if you think there is when you go there then stuff like this will happen. Since nobody knows what was said between her and the salesman its hard to prove fraud because she might have said she made that much money, she signed a contract saying she did at least. Until they can find out who changed the 6k to 8600 you cant point a finger for it. Like I said, there would be no reason for the dealership to change it because they WOULDNT let her take the car off the lot if she wasnt qualified from the lender, and the lender wouldnt change their mind after she already drove the car off the lot, and all of a sudden decide that she needed to make more. As fun as it is to call this lady a victim and criticize for calling her an idiot at the end of the day thats simply the case. She made an extremely dumb decision and her and the financier are gonna have to pay for it. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 09:41 AM) She was on temporary disability, which means she was recovering from something. Typically that would mean a major illness (cancer, heart attack, stroke) or accident (car accident, etc.). A very common side effect of a disability is depression. It sounds like she is getting back on her feet and close to working. Perhaps getting out of the house a little. Expecting to get her job back or similar. She wonders into a car dealership "looking". She thinks to herself, there is no harm in looking because she will not qualify for a loan. Certainly they will not let me out of here with one of these. Greedy because she was looking at the cars? Then everyone that has ever looked at something they can't afford is guilty of being greedy. Then the con begins, this was not a sale, the dealership obviously commits fraud in this transaction. The salesperson convinces her that all she has to do is state what she will be making, give him all her savings, and the car is hers. Later, the con man or stealership, inflates her income even farther. To believe that taking advantage of someone, even those dumb and stupid would make it open season on anyone who could be conned into buying something over their heads, or worthless. Hey I just sold that old lady furnace for $25,000 Woo Wooo! She has a tiny house, but I convinced here having one sized for a mansion would be better! She's stupid and an idiot!! Damn I screwed up, I should have added a $3,000 filter!! She's stupid and an idiot and deserves it. She was greedy and wanted the best furnace available. You all can think it's OK to screw someone out of their life savings as long as they are stupid and the item is expensive enough. Let's say she was stupid and an idiot. Based on this, it's her tough luck for being stupid and if anyone can take all your money, more power to them. Free season on the stupid. Nice f***ing morals America. Mourn the loss of rugged individualism? How about mourning the loss of common decency? The kind of common decency that stops a con man from taking the life savings from someone, simply because they can? Do you really want to have a society that everyone can screw anyone if they can? It could also mean she fake an injury at work to collect the benefits. Considering we dont have the facts thats just as likely, if not more likely, than cancer. So is it the car salesmans job or the finance companies job to determine if she was "depressed?" Any salesmans job is to make as much money for themselves and their dealership as they can, and its the consumers job to get the best deal. This kind of stuff happens everyday but most of the time people realize its their own fault and deal with it. Its pathetic that now people should not only have to look out for their friends and family but now we have to look out for the best interests of strangers because they make stupid decisions. She agreed to the payment amount and at the end of the day thats all that mattered. What if that sale was the salesmans only deal for the month and that the commision for it was all he had to feed his family? Does that mean if she didnt buy the car we should bail him out? Going to a dealership isnt like going to a doctors office where they have to have your best interests in mind. They make more money the more they sell and I bet anyone in the salesmans shoes would do the same thing. -

At what point is someone responsible for their own actions? I just dont see how anyone would have sympathy for some idiot who doesnt even work and leased a 100k BMW knowing EXACTLY what the payments were going to be every month. Also, how much did it say she put down, 30k? On a lease? She wasnt gonna get it back anyway -

Obviously the dealership was wrong but i dont think it was done behind her back. She ran into a salesman and got talked into buying the car. Car salesman will use any means to get a buyer into a car whether they can afford it or not. Where does it stop then? What if you buy a tv you cant afford at Best Buy? The consumer is the one responsible for their purchases. Now, if the dealer told her the payment was gonna be less or something thats one thing. I just dont see how this is anyones fault but heres. Consumer: I want to lease this car, I have X to put down and want it for X years. Dealer: Your payment will be X for X years. Its not the dealers job to decide who can afford what. the 6k to 8600 is irrelevant compared to the 2500 to 6k. She signed an application saying she made more than she did, if she hadnt done that then she never would have been in that situation. Shes an idiot for agreeing to the lease and now is trying to gain sympathy to get her money back. Since she signed the application saying she made 6k and thats all thats documented then the conversation between her and the salesman is hearsay and her signature is all that is needed to prove liability. I would love to see what her disability checks are from too. Obviously whatever prevented her from being able to work wasnt bad enough to stop her from cruising around in a BMW convertible. Bottom line is she knew what the payment was when she leased it. That never changed. If she couldnt afford to pay it she shouldnt have agreed to the terms and she should have to do what anyone else would which is get it repossessed and trash her credit. This lady in just a parasite looking for hand outs. -
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) Whoever the congressman is now is pretty much just letting Clemens tell his story of his hard upbringing. Mr Clay is who it was. He pretty much just gave Clemens a platform to tell a whole sad story about his hard work and how he had no car...etc...and his sister in law that was murdered or whatever. Not sure how any of it was relevant except to help Clemens... That next lady wasnt so nice. I almost feel sorry for him. Even though it appears he is lying its gotta suck to go through all of this just to keep your name cleared. You know his reputation must mean everything to him for him to risk perjury where if he had used it and admitted it he wouldnt be in any legal trouble.

I posted this idea in the catch all thread a while ago. I think it would be damned hilarious if there was a hidden camera show where people thought they were buying something off the internet, like from craigslist or something, or meeting someone from a dating website and when they walk in to the house Chris Hansen walks out like he does on too catch a predator and they have phony transcripts. Then they would need an a friend involved where they could then plant things in the car and supply pictures of the person.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) I wish there was a biggest gainers club cause I really want to gain at least 20 pounds before the summer... (football related) Why do you have to gain 20 lbs to overrate Joe Flacco and Cedric Benson? I would think you could do that at about any weight.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) I didnt even know there were still jeans out there that were less than 75 bucks, at least not in chicago. And its not about high school thinking you are cool or not, if you go someplace nice to eat, or a social gathering, its generally known that you should at least dress up a little, and with jeans its not your acid washed wranglers. I buy generally Lucky, express, Mavi etc, nothing like the 300 dollar sevens people buy, but good, reliable jeans. Many of these are acceptable to wear with a nice shirt or jacket to a restaurant. Im glad you posted that. I didnt want to respond. I normally buy Seven's or Mavis and I have a pair of Diesels but the highest price on survey at 75 seems way too low considering how much stuff costs these days.

I just watched Superbad and aside from the part about the kid with the addiction to drawing dicks it was pretty terrible.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) So fighting to save a marriage and keeping the family together is a bad thing? I wonder if you have analyzed the other candidates marriages, which ones are the best, which couples are the most in love? I was waiting for something like this. In my original post I CLEARLY stated that this is my prerogative and I personally dont respect someone that would let their spouse walk all over them. I also said it has nothing to do with how I feel about any other candidates or past presidents. The thread is about Hillary and what people dont like about her. I know you didnt quote my post but the one quoted was in reference to mine.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) Well, this is part of what really bothers me...but it isn't that I believe she stayed with him because she had no spine, but rather, that she stayed with him because she knew it was in the best interests of her eventual political career. Which I find extremely repugnant. I don't believe in their marriage- I think it's a sham and strictly a career arrangement for both of them. It's not that I believe they don't care for one another, but I think they each think of their political careers first and foremost (whether that is individually or collectively) their daughter second (I hope), and then whatever is left of their sham marriage. I agree that its mostly because of their careers and it kind of makes it worse for me.

Ive read through most of this thread and hadnt saw this brought up I might have missed it. Im just gonna say what I dont like her on a personal level. The first thing I look for in an elected leader is respect. Im not saying I respect GWB or any of the other candidates now any more or less. However, how Bills affairs were made so public and they werent isolated incidents to me a huge slap in the face to her. Then her staying with him shows me a lack of spine. I know some people look at the sanctity or marriage and thought it was good for her to stand by her man but thats just not the way I think. I simply cant respect someone that would let their spouse walk all over them like that and I dont want a leader I dont respect.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) I think some La Bamba's are better than others...the one in Lincoln Park is outstanding...the one down at SIU was not especially great. I tend to think the key is whether they have the white cheese (mmm) or the yellow cheese. I was not allowed into the La Bamba my last year at SIU because my roommate would always ask for mustard on his burrito (which of course they didn't have) to piss them off. Finally, they banned us both from coming. Speaking of SIU though, boy, do I miss Quattros pizza and Wise Guys subs. I might have to make a trip to the alma mater just for those two late-night delicacies... And one more thing...my roommate I mentioned previously was of hispanic heritage. We would come home from the bars and he would scramble eggs and cook up some chorizo and we would have breakfast burritos at 4 am....unbelievable...I think that was the best part of living with that guy... I really liked the La Bambas at SIU. I like it a lot more than the one at U of I and downtown. That was delicious stuff.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) While I do like Chipotle, I feel the workers are given cash for the least amount of meat they put on the burrito. Sometimes it is a joke. But I do like the food. Also, if anyone has been to any of the Tacos El Norte restaurants in the NW burbs, it is worth it. Best Tacos Ever!!! my friends had a trick to get more meat in their burritos. They would say they only wanted one meat and after they put it in they said they changed their mind and wanted 2 kinds of meat, and since they wouldnt take the meat off thats already on there they got a lot of meat.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) By the way...does anyone think we've officially seen the last of teams resting their regulars in week 17 if they have nothing to play for? No way. Even the Bears do that. I do think the Giants doing it was a good move though. You dont want to go into the playoffs getting pounded in week 17.

I think its still illegal but its just a different charge. Theft, larceny, burglary are all different. Im pretty sure its a form of theft. Like how retail theft, shoplifting, doesnt involve any force either. The impression I got is that the girls more than likely wont get in any trouble because theyre minors.
