  1. Joe Crede-3B- White Sox Mar. 25 - 4:42 pm et The White Sox announced that they'll open the season with Joe Crede at third base and Josh Fields in the minors. Fields has every right to be upset, especially since Crede has been awful both offensively and defensively this spring. It's hard to imagine Crede remaining with the White Sox in 2009, so there's not much reason to go with him now. It doesn't look like he's going to build up a bunch of trade value anytime soon. He's hit .170/.220/.277 with two RBI in 47 at-bats this spring. Source: Chicago Tribune Juan Uribe-SS- White Sox Mar. 25 - 4:39 pm et The White Sox said Juan Uribe would get the first shot at second base this year. Actually, Pablo Ozuna is expected to get the first, first shot, based entirely on his success versus Cleveland's Opening Day starter, C.C. Sabathia. Uribe, though, will play over Ozuna and Alexei Ramirez most of the time initially. It seems unlikely that he'll last a regular all year. Source: Chicago Tribune
  2. How about him for a 5th starter? Claudio Vargas-S-Brewers Mar. 25 - 2:44 pm et Brewers released RHP Claudio Vargas. Bizarre. Vargas entered spring training looking like a long shot to win a spot in the Milwaukee rotation, but he had a 3.86 ERA in his five starts and it had seemed to be a given that he'd be in the rotation with both Yovani Gallardo and Chris Capuano out. At the very least, the Brewers figured to be able to trade him thanks to his strong spring. His $3.6 million salary proved to be too much of a hindrance apparently. Expect the Astros, Mets and others to pursue him once he clears waivers. Both Carlos Villanueva and Manny Parra will have rotation spots now.
  3. Toby Hall-C-White Sox Mar. 25 - 2:27 pm et Toby Hall has been called into manager Ozzie Guillen's office for two meetings on Tuesday, though he's rejoined his teammates after each. The White Sox are supposed to be settling on their roster today, and it doesn't seem like good news for Hall that he keeps getting talked to. Maybe the team is trying to convince him that a DL stint would be in his best interests. If he was being released, it likely would have happened already. Source: Chicago Tribune
  4. QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 02:20 AM) The "experiment gone wrong" was Darin Erstad, especially considering Anderson had... what... less than 20 ABs? They had to throw him out there because Anderson wasn't ready and they sent him down before his confidence was completely shattered.
  5. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) Losing Hall last year was big enough. It opened the door to Gustavo Molina, which in turn caused Andy Gonzalez and Luis Terrero to look good in comparison. nor the injuries to Crede, Pablo, and decline years of Dye and Count didn't play a factor into last year. Also the experiment gone wrong with Brian Anderson and missing Thome for over a month. Missing Hall meant nothing last season.
  6. QUOTE(max power @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) What? I don't think you could have been more wrong. Had he not been injured he might have produced something like his career numbers. Oh please, he barely produces anywheres. He was a throw in a trade to the Dodgers and obviously they released him for Russell Martin. He was a free agent for months and no one wanted him and then Kenny cam along and overpaid for him when he was competing with no other team.
  7. I remember getting flamed last season when I said losing Hall (same time last season) wasn't a big loss. I still have yet to be proven wrong.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) Pretty good outing from him today Preseason. Talk to me in May.
  9. Gavin as our 5th starter is going to be a huge mistake. He stunk it up in Philly (I've seen about 95% of his starts/appearances with Philly) and still hasn't even improved from that. I hope our 5th starter isn't on the team yet because if so, it's going to be a long season every 5th day.
  10. so 17 pages and nothing really to report on.
  11. At least he isn't still stuck in Cuba.
  12. Fruity Pebbles, the Official cereal of the Chicago White Sox. So what happens if the Sox trade for Coco Crisp?
  13. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) What exactly are you saying here when you mention "top talent?" Are you suggesting in the league, or as a slot in the rotation? Are you arguing he has a 0.0% chance of being a #5 starter? Sorry, I meant Top 5 talent in terms of rotation. Floyd is a horrible pitcher. Living close to Philly, he was horrible there as well and was pissed he was in the Garcia deal because he was pretty much a throw in.
  14. Danks, time will tell. Floyd. For seeing most of his starts in Philly and with the Sox, there is 0.0 chance he's a top 5 talent, let alone top 2.
  15. mlbtraderumors has an article up that said the Sox were going to trade Carter for Otsuka, but KW nixed the deal after looking at his medical records.
  16. Nationals Sign Mackowiak, Harris According to a press release from the Nationals, they've signed Rob Mackowiak and Willie Harris to one-year deals. The idea is to bolster the bench. per mlbtraderumors.com
