Minor League playoffs: should you care?
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Why stop caring after caring all year long? I spend $1,000 on season tickets every year, I want the Barons to win and go to the playoffs. Those teams have fans, it's easy to say that when you don't live in a minor league town. Those players care and they are part of the organization you are a fan of. Why wouldn't you want them to succeed? Just because the minors are for development, doesn't mean that winning a league title is irrelevant. That's work that the players have put in all year. I understand if you don't care about them winning or losing, but you're basically saying that the minor league teams don't matter and equating them to a glorified practice squad. They wouldn't play competitive games at all or keep records if the teams and leagues weren't legitimate. You're insulting the fans in those cities by saying winning or losing a league title doesn't matter. We don't all live in Chicago. Great post!

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) Leave for two hours, and see we scored 10 runs! At least this makes the Twins series a little more interesting. I'm thinking you should leave more often.

Don't believe I ever started a game thread. If I did it was years ago.

How many times have you been banned at WSI?
QUOTE (Little Nell @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 10:50 AM) Because I'm older (64) than quite a few over at WSI some have made fun of my age especially last week when I stated that I did not like tiered pricing for games. I don't understand why someone cannot accept someones different point of view without resorting to nastiness. Today someone called me a vulgar name and in my 4 years over there I have never called anyone something offensive. I think I will soon be a former member of WSI. Welcome to Soxtalk! Finally someone older than me...yay!!! I was a regular but quit WSI in the summer of 2005. I don't even lurk over there. The Mods are full of it.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) As far as I can tell he spent time at least twice in a psychiatric hospital. In the middle of the 1952 season he spent 7 weeks in the Westborough State Hospital in Massachusetts. In 1960 while with the Indians the team physician ordered psychiatric care for him after a series of bizarre indicents including throwing the ball at Bill Veeck's new exploding scoreboard after catching the final out in game two of a doubleheader on Memorial Day. Piersall's struggles with his personal demons are chronicled in his autobiographical work Fear Strikes Out. It was made into a movie with Anthony Perkins of Psycho fame starring as Piersall and Karl Malden as his overbearing father. Piersall was less than pleased with the movie. Several years later I was at a game when Piersall threw a ball at the scoreboard again. But it was before the game during batting practice. He must have hated that scoreboard. I forget who he was playing for but I remember when he hit his 100th career homer and ran around the bases backwards to celebrate.- Where are they now? Former Sox players of days past
