  1. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) Better yet, RF over CQ. Right on. I'm really worried about Quentin.
  2. Nice! I have also read that the Sox held spring training in Pasadena in 1938 and played a team of local players, one of whom was Jackie Robinson. At that time Dykes said "If that kid was white, I'd sign him right now."
  3. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) This is something that I've always wondered about... why won't MLB teams have their minor league teams close by? Can you imagine how cool it would be to have the Sox Minor league teams play locally? I thought about going to a Kane County Cougars game last year when the Sox were out of town and I was jonesing for some baseball. I thought it might have been boring though. Now imagine the Sox AAA team playing there instead of the Cougars. I'm pretty sure I'd be a season ticket holder. I would love to see the young up and comers in the Sox organization play. Lots of mlb teams have close by minor league teams. Here in Washington for example, the Mariners have the Everett AquaSox (short season rookie) and the Tacoma Rainers (AAA). The same can be said for a lot of other teams. It's unfortunate that for Chicago White Sox fans, their minor league teams aren't close by, though that wasn't always the case. Not too many years ago, they had the team up in Appleton, WI and they've had a team even more near in South Bend. Back in the 70's the Sox' AAA team was in Iowa and in the early 60's it was in Indianapolis. It would make too much sense to have their minor league teams near by.
  4. I saw McPherson play quite a bit in Salt Lake. He's all right at 3rd. Pretty good range, a strong arm, but I'd say overall his defense is just ok. He was fun to watch at the AAA level. I saw him hit a couple of moonshots.
  5. Most everything on TV CGI Beer Eminem Mustard Just to name a few. A few people have mentioned the Dave Matthews Band. I don't know how "popular" they are any more but when they were I hated them too.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) Anne Hathaway and James Franco = two thumbs down. As is gorgeous, and Franco is a great actor and cool dude, but they were brutal hosting. Agreed. Kirk Douglas would have been better.
  7. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 07:03 PM) Bummer. Way too soon. I wonder where he goes from here? A job in the White Sox organization would be nice.
  8. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2011/...dies-at-81.html He was such a breath of fresh air in the early 70's after two terrible seasons in 68 and 69. Man, you aren't kidding about a breath of fresh air after those two seasons. I was in my early 20's when Tanner became manager and I went to more games in the Chuck Tanner-Dick Allen era than any other Sox era. It was an exciting time to be a White Sox fan. RIP Chuck.

    Coffee Talk

I worked the 3rd shift for over 20 years and took care of my kids in the day (at least when they were little). 18 to 20 hour days were the norm. But I was only human. Once in awhile my wife would come home from work and find me sleeping on the living room floor surrounded by kids and toys. That was rare though. I got used to drinking so much Mt. Dew and/or coffee it was ridiculous. Even now, I can get by with very little sleep and be just fine. But, when I want to sleep all the caffeine in the world (so to speak) isn't going to keep me from going to sleep. I can lay down and be asleep within a minute.

    Coffee Talk

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 07:58 AM) Tea is where it's at. Right on. I love coffee but I drink mostly tea. Kinda weird, because here in the Puget Sound area there is an Expresso joint on nearly every corner. I'm not kidding, they're everywhere. There's one spot a few blocks from where I live where there's an intersection with two Starbucks, one across the street from the other. But I've gotten hooked on tea, nothing fancy or anything just mostly Irish Breakfast tea. I drink probably on the average 6 to 8 cups a day.

  12. Here in the Seattle, Washington area there are definitely SOME White Sox fans. I see a few here and there and it's usually pretty obvious when somebody is wearing a White Sox hat just because of the fashion and some guy who is wearing it because he's a baseball fan. When I went to a Sox-Mariners game last summer there was a smattering of Sox fans. I'm sure that's true in any road game ballpark, but at a Mariners game at this particular time when the Mariners suck and the crowd is pretty quiet the cheering fans for the road team are pretty evident.

  14. Sorry to hear about the Captain. His albums were fantastically demented. Diddy Wah Diddy, Captain Beefheart.
  15. While a member of the White Sox Walt Dropo was involved in one of the best bench-clearing brawls ever (1957, I think). Sox and Yankees, Dropo beat the crap outta Enos "Country" Slaughter. RIP Moose.
  16. I'll kinda miss Bobby and I'll hate seeing him in a Red Sox uniform but that's the way it goes. If and when we face him I hope we clobber him but best of luck to him otherwise.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) Great post. I also played third base and loved the fact there were both Santo and Melton to have as "idols" if that's the right word. I haven't lived in Chicago a while but I wonder why anybody would "hate" Santo. I guess there are reasons but he doesn't seem like a hateable figure. I got goosebumps when I saw this thread. Rest in peace, Mr. Santo. It's a sad day in Chicago I'm sure. This is going to get massive publicity and it should in Chicago. Very sad. He's got to be one of the most recognizable names in Chicago sports. Ron Santo is dead. Hard to believe it. I think he's hated mostly by a generation who never saw him play but only know him as the "homer" announcer that he was on the radio. Sure, as a Sox fan I "hated" him as a Cub and later I took delight whenever I heard him groan "Ooooooh Noooooo" during a broadcast but I'm truly saddened by his death.
  18. Haul out the holly Put up the tree before my spirit falls again Fill up the stocking I may be rushing things, but deck the halls again now For we need a little Christmas Right this very minute Candles in the window Carols at the spinet Yes, we need a little Christmas Right this very minute It hasn't snowed a single flurry But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry So climb down the chimney Turn on the brightest string of light I've ever seen Slice up the fruitcake It's time we hung some tinsel on that evergreen bough For I've grown a little leaner Grown a little colder Grown a little sadder Grown a little older And I need a little angel Sitting on my shoulder Need a little Christmas now For we need a little music Need a little laughter Need a little singing Ringing through the rafter And we need a little snappy "Happy ever after" Need a little Christmas now
  19. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) This is SO awesome ... Most because I think AJ helps the pitching staff more than anyone gives him enough credit for. Made my day! Agree completely. Besides he's at least near the top of my favorite White Sox guys ever. I'm not ready to let go yet. Welcome back AJ!
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 09:08 AM) I second it. RIP Mr. Santo. You were an great baseball player and an asset to the game of baseball!! Right on. I remember his rookie year. I hated him as a Cub. I was at Comiskey Park for opening day in 1974 and saw his White Sox debut.....ugh. but, I was kinda excited about what he may have brought to the Sox though that didn't work out very well. There was Ron Santo Pizza though, that was pretty good. I have to admit that I loved his enthusiasm and love for the game. For that I will surely miss him. As for the HOF, when Brooks Robinson went in, Santo should have too, in my opinion.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) Irvin Kershner, who directed a movie called "The Empire Strikes Back", died at age 87,. He also directed a James Bond movie, Never Say Never Again (being the only American to direct a James Bond movie).
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 27, 2010 -> 08:56 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-ap-d...,0,155349.story Free Willie!!
